It's easy to imagine how difficult it would be for Mu Zishan to continue investigating the ancient tomb. Xiaoxue's information had already been confiscated, and the bronze artifacts had been sealed as evidence. Most troublingly, the police simply defined the murder as a tomb robbery and brawl, blaming the endless greed of the tomb robbers and leaving the case unresolved.
It was deserted outside the Criminal Investigation Bureau, and through the windows on the second floor one could vaguely see staff coming and going.
"Who are you?" The guard appeared out of nowhere and blocked her way.
"I'm a friend of your Officer Li."
"There are many people with the surname Li here. What unit are you from and what are you doing here?"
"I don't have a job, so I'm looking for him to do something for me."
"Which department are you looking for Officer Li from? What do you want to do?" He went to his small booth and looked through the contact information of the personnel.
Mu Zishan found these questions curious. They were very similar to the three great philosophical questions: Who are you? Where do you come from? Where are you going? He couldn't help but smile as he watched his smooth movements.
"He should be the captain of your criminal investigation team." Mu Zishan added, in case he found other Officer Li.
"Wait a moment." He made a phone call inside, said something, then asked her name and took her in.
Inside, it was spacious, with neat offices, clean floors and glass. Compared to foreign offices, it was much quieter. The man knocked on an office labeled "Criminal Investigation Captain" and gestured for her to enter. Unlike the outside, the walls and glass panels inside were covered with photos and materials from various cases.
"Xiaolin, thank you for your help."
"Captain, it's alright then, I'll go to work."
"Sit down." He pointed to a chair in front.
She was always direct and didn't beat around the bush: "Regarding the Hunan tomb case, I hope you can help me find out the truth."
"Hunan has already closed the case."
She pulled out a few photos from her phone and explained the suspicious points in detail to him: "If I were one of those tomb robbers, this bronze artifact would be worth more than any other antique inside, yet they were left with it. Furthermore, although there are obvious signs of a struggle inside the tomb, the deceased did not suffer fatal injuries. In other words, he did not die in the fight, but rather from suffocation due to some reason after the others left. An experienced forensic doctor would definitely be able to find this out."
His eyes became blurry. Her statement was indeed convincing. These were all doubts in the case. He really couldn't agree with her taking the evidence without permission. If he wanted to help her, he would have to consider it carefully.
The two chatted for a while when someone knocked on the door. It was his subordinate, who had brought some new information on the case. When he saw Mu Zishan sitting there, a light flashed in his eyes and he greeted her excitedly: "Why are you here?"
Officer Li looked at him and asked, "Do you know her?"
"Isn't this the detective girl that was featured on TV? Everyone in the office knows her."
Mu Zishan stood up and said, "Hello, I am the female detective with a bad reputation." She shook hands with him.
"I'm telling you, your supporters, if you need any help, just let me know."
"Okay, get back to work," Officer Li said sternly.
"Yes!" He immediately stood at attention and then made a standard turn.
This made her laugh: "I didn't expect that people here are quite interesting."
"This kid is quite good at talking." He took a quick look at the case that had just been delivered and frowned.
She didn't wait for his answer, but fiddled with the coffee machine in the room. After a while, two cups of fragrant Italian-style freshly ground coffee were made: "Well, your coffee here is not bad."
He took the coffee she handed over: "It's given by others, I usually don't use it."
"That's because there are too few of you here."
The corners of his mouth curled up, as if mocking: "I don't run a business here."
"That's right," she sat back down, "How about this, we can work together and renovate your office as well."
"Forget it," he thought of something, "but I'm still a little curious about how you managed to get rid of those difficult inspection team members."
"Are you trying to trick me?"
"I just want to understand. There are very few people like you who can escape the inspection team unscathed."
"You don't know how much they've taken away from me. Now I can only live under someone else's roof."
He had investigated her background, but there was nothing particularly unusual about it. However, recently, because of the bronze artifact incident, she had gotten into trouble, and it seemed that someone was intentionally helping her. No one knew who that person was.
"Living under someone else's roof?"
"Yes, all the assets were seized."
"So what are you going to do?"
“People like to say, ‘Where you fall, there you get up.’”
"So you want to investigate further?"
She knocked on the table: "Naturally."
He took out a document from the drawer and placed it in front of her: "There is a case here, a murder case. The people in the bureau have been following it for a long time, but still haven't found any clues about the perpetrator. If you find the murderer, I will consider helping you."
She looked through the information carefully and raised her eyebrows: "Give me a week."
"No, the higher-ups told the bureau to give us the results in three days." He thought for a moment, "But I can ask someone at the bureau to help you."
