Chapter 5 Sports Day

The autumn sports meeting held by the school was difficult for Mu Zishan, who had never exercised, and she happened to be the deskmate of the sports committee member. Wang Yao was really not polite to her at all. The three events on the competition list, 1500-meter long-distance running, 4x100-meter relay, and high jump, completely dumbfounded her. Wang Yao's silly smile made her unable to get angry. After all, she had just become the sports committee member, and she had no other choice but to use her friends as a scapegoat. The weather was surprisingly good on the day of the competition. After the complicated ceremony, there was an intense and orderly competition. Her high jump was not good. She was eliminated just after one meter, but Wang Yao took third place.

The men's long-distance race had just begun. Although they had no problem completing the entire race after several days of practice, some nerves still clung to the race. Mu Zishan stood on the lawn at the finish line, admiring the boys' speed and endurance. Suddenly, a gust of wind rushed towards her, and before she could react, she felt a rush of wind.

"First place!" the referee said, pressing the stopwatch. Mu Zishan was pinned to the ground, but luckily there was plastic grass as a cushion.

"I'm sorry, classmate, are you okay?" The other person quickly sat aside and said breathlessly.

Mu Zishan moved her neck, touched her head, and felt that there was nothing wrong. She stood up and just wanted to see what he looked like when her name was called on the radio.

The 1500-meter long-distance race was indeed difficult. After running the third lap, she was already dizzy and could only keep running forward.

"Plop!" As soon as she crossed the line, she collapsed, feeling as if she were being dragged to the side. When she gradually regained consciousness, Wang Yao laughed and said, "Do you know what place you finished in the women's race?"

"I don't know." Her mind was still in a mess, how could she remember, and she didn't have the energy to ask.

"First place! You actually came in first." She jumped up excitedly. "Haha, it looks like our class's overall score is expected to be in the top three."

Top three? You're overthinking it.

In the final relay race, although she ran well within her group, she only managed third place. The school was very good at calculating grades, and the overall ranking for the entire school was released. However, it was far from what Wang Yao had expected, barely placing third in her grade. She sat on the steps by the playground, drinking mineral water. Her legs were weak, so she had to ask Wang Yao to go to the teaching building to get her schoolbag, and then she could take the bus home.

"I didn't expect you to have such good endurance!" A boy sat down, "Let me replenish your energy." He gave her a piece of chocolate.

His hair was shorter than the other boys', and he wore a red sports shirt and black pants, which made him look tall and thin. His facial features were prominent and his eyes were deep, but Mu Zishan had no impression of him.

Seeing her sitting further away, the other person smiled and said, "Just consider this as your reward for picking me up just now!"

She remembered that it was him who bumped into her suddenly. However, she didn't want to catch him, but she didn't have time to dodge.

The other person stood on the next step below her, looking condescending, and forced the chocolate into her hand: "My name is Lu Yang, from Class 1!" Then he left with his schoolbag.

She didn't know when Wang Yao had collected the certificates for her, but when she got home, she found them all in her schoolbag. Her brother's conversation with Mom on the balcony was so loud she had to put on headphones. But she had to admit, her brother's rebelliousness was too strong. Not only had he skipped Beijing or Shanghai, but he'd also secretly enrolled in clinical medicine. He'd left behind all his computer genius and financial prowess, completely shattering his parents' hopes for him.

After a few days of fatigue, I finally made it to the weekend and stayed at home to sleep in.

“Ding ding ding~”

"Hey! Bro, what's up? A USB drive? Oh, oh," the noise from the other side startled her awake, "I know."

I went to my brother's computer, removed the USB drive, and headed to the nearest subway station. Luckily, I'd been to his school before the start of the semester, and after asking a few people, I finally found the classroom. I stood outside and messaged my brother, waiting for him to come out.

"There's still an hour until get out of class ends. Let's go for a walk and then I'll take you out for dinner." He touched her head and went back.

Mu Zishan walked out of the teaching building and saw a chair on the lawn outside. He went over and sat down. There were a lot of people passing by.

An hour later, my brother came over from the crowd, took off his coat and put it on her: "Why don't you wear another coat when you go out?"

"Who knew I'd have to wait so long for you outside!" She pouted unhappily. She felt the people around her staring at her. At first, she thought it was her imagination, but when a few people gathered around her, she confirmed her thoughts.

It turned out her brother was practically a star at school. He'd actually combined computer technology with human medical applications to create a model, and all the details about that model were on the USB drive she'd brought. She had no idea what the computer and medical terms were, not to mention the many English words mixed in.

They were going to pick up Dong Xiuxiu and take him to the place they visited most often. It was said that he had been admitted to the police academy.

Mu Zishan sat in the back seat, and it was raining outside.

"Zishan, your brother told me you like to read detective novels," Dong Yuyu said. "I have some case studies here. You can take a look."

Mu Zishan took the notebook and looked at it. It was written by him, and there were various materials and pictures inside. "Did you collect them yourself?"

"I need it for a class, so I did some homework," he said with a smile, "See if you like it?"

Mu Zishan put it on her legs. She hadn't touched these things for a long time. As for her previous dreams, they seemed to be awakened by these things again.

"She just acted on a whim." Mu Zibai said sarcastically.

She pouted in dissatisfaction: "You are the best!"

On Monday, Zishan, who was supposed to be out before Zibai, was still lying in bed. He knocked on her door and said, "Zishan, it's 7:30, why aren't you up yet?" He didn't get a response, so he opened her door and saw her buried in the quilt. Worried she was sick, he touched her forehead and found it was cold, thinking she had a cold.

"Brother, I have a terrible stomachache," she said, not even having the strength to speak. "Is there something wrong with the hot pot we had yesterday?"

Mu Zibai was a little worried. If it was really a gastrointestinal infection, he would have to go to the hospital. He took her out of the quilt and saw the blood on the bed sheet. His heart trembled. Mu Zishan was even more at a loss: "Brother, why is there so much blood? I won't die, will I?"

"I'll take you to the hospital."

After learning the cause from the doctor, Mu Zibai felt ridiculously foolish. Mu Zishan was a girl, so such a phenomenon was normal. She had actually made a fuss and went to the hospital. However, Mu Zishan was not prepared for such a situation. Even though the nurse and doctor told her that every girl goes through this process every month, the pain still frightened her.

After returning home, Mu Zibai went to the supermarket to buy sanitary napkins as instructed by the doctor, gave her medicine, filled a hot water bottle, watched her lie quietly in bed, and adjusted the temperature in the room. He went to the living room and called Mu Zishan's homeroom teacher to ask for a few days' leave.
