The dinner was attended by business leaders and many political figures. As the young master of the Zhuo Group, he naturally became the focus of everyone's attention.
Mu Zishan followed him into the hall. He held her hand and walked in front of his parents first: "Mom and Dad!"
Zhuo's mother had met Mu Zishan before, and she seemed particularly affectionate towards her as soon as she saw her. She went up to her and said a few words to her, and then went to deal with those wife friends.
Zhuo Qiang's father only exchanged a few words with him before going on stage to speak. He took her to meet several business partners, and she responded with a smile.
"Ms. Mu Zishan?" someone came over and said, "Aren't you married?"
Zhuo Qiang, who was standing by, heard this and immediately turned to her side: "Sir, what can I do for you?"
"Oh," the other party looked at Zhuo Qiang and had nothing to say, "It's okay, Master Zhuo."
She shook off his hand and went to the side to get a glass of champagne, but he snatched it away: "Are you unhappy?" and handed her a glass of juice.
“No,” she looked at the women around her who wanted to come forward but didn’t have the courage, “They seem to be waiting for you.”
He looked behind him and saw some socialites and female stars. So he went over with a glass of wine and said a few words to them. When he turned around again, Mu Zishan was gone.
He looked around, but couldn't find her.
She was walking alone by the pool, which was also crowded. She saw two couples arguing in front of her. One woman was pulling the other's hair, and with a sudden "plop," both women fell into the icy water. The two men were still arguing, unaware of their girlfriends' plight. Luckily, someone came to rescue the two women. Once they reached shore, they blamed their boyfriends, having forgotten their previous conflict.
She smiled and walked forward. A man approached her and said, "Miss, why are you here alone?"
"I want some quiet time," she said.
"I also want some quiet time. The people over there are too noisy."
"You're too noisy." She passed him.
When she arrived at a lawn covered with snow, she saw a woman taking off her shoes and stepping on it. She seemed not to feel the cold. She must be drunk. Not wanting to disturb her, she left in another direction.
There was another musical fountain at the back of the hall, and many people liked to stay there. Perhaps because of the music, she didn't feel the cold, but there were a few women standing in front of her.
"Mr. Zhuo's female companion." said one of the women.
"Well, it seems that Master Zhuo is still looking for her. I didn't expect her to hide here."
She thought they were too noisy and was about to leave, but a woman stopped her and said, "Get out of the way!"
"Oh, that's quite a mistake," the woman who spoke first walked up to her and pointed her finger at her nose. "Don't you even know who you are?"
She hadn't moved for a long time, and when the other person was completely defenseless, she pushed her to the ground. The other women who wanted to come forward to help were thrown into the musical fountain by her.
The dinner staff arrived and surrounded her. The women began to accuse her of wrongdoing, and some men joined in, asking, "Why is this person like this?"
"She was brought here by Master Zhuo."
"It's better not to mess with her."
Zhuo Qiang noticed something was amiss over there. He walked through the crowd and saw Mu Zishan. He took off his coat and put it on her. "It's so cold outside. Why did you come out?"
She gritted her teeth and looked at the people around her angrily.
The staff member stepped forward to explain: "Mr. Zhuo, this is just a misunderstanding."
He looked at the women. The one who was pushed to the ground was crying non-stop, and the other one was soaked like a drowned rat. Their pitiful appearance really won a lot of sympathy from people.
"Misunderstanding?" he ordered. "I don't want to see these women again."
"yes!"
He protected Mu Zishan and walked out of the crowd: "How did they offend you?"
"fine."
He didn't believe she would suffer any loss, he was just curious about what had just happened. The dinner reached its climax, with live music performances, and many people danced to the music.
Zhuo Qiang invited her to dance the first dance, and after the song was over, she won a lot of applause.
After the dinner, her mood improved considerably, and she even spoke a few words in the car. On the way back, as fireworks were set off outside, she also smiled, a rare moment.
As the Spring Festival approached, everyone was busy bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new. Aunt Lin also returned to her hometown. They were the only two left in the courtyard. Besides playing games, their other activity was making snowmen.
Every time it snowed heavily, a snowman would appear in the yard. Soon there were three big snowmen in the yard, and they gave them names. The first one was called Big Wood, the second one was called Second Fool, and the third one was called Third Princess.
Mu Zi'an had been coming to Dao Siheyuan frequently during this period. His goal was simple: to secure investment from Zhuo Qiang after the Lunar New Year. He had a new biotechnology project, and a large part of the planning was being done by Ma Yiming.
Zhuo Qiang read his plan and didn't take it seriously at first, but after a few days of persuasion, he agreed to let the company's inspection team examine the value of the project before deciding whether to invest.
To thank Zhuo Qiang, Mu Zi'an prepared a sumptuous dinner for them. With Mu Zi'an by her side, she didn't feel lonely: "I didn't expect you could cook."
"My dad is the one who made that up," Mu Zi'an said, "He said cooking can also cultivate a person's sentiments."
She smiled and said, "Really?"
"Ah," Mu Zi'an looked at the time, "My mother asked me to go home for dinner today. I almost forgot. You guys take your time eating." He put on his coat and ran out.
Seeing that she was in a very good mood, Zhuo Qiang asked, "My parents are inviting us home for dinner too. Do you want to go?"
"when?"
"Tomorrow, the night of the 30th."
"Go ahead."
The Zhuo family's New Year's Eve dinner was simple, consisting of Zhuo Qiang's parents and the four of them. After dinner and some tea, Zhuo Qiang's parents, very respectful of their privacy, chatted about European literature and Chinese history before letting them go.
On the way back, their car broke down and was parked on the side of the road. No cars were passing by, and calls to the maintenance team went unanswered.
"Zishan," Zhuo Qiang returned to the car, "I'm afraid we'll have to spend a long night here."
She got out of the car, and the vast expanse of white around her seemed poetic.
