Shan Cong's promotions were as rapid as his case-solving speed, and he was promoted to captain of the criminal police team. Every day became even busier, and even Zhuo Qiang Xiangyao had to arrange a week in advance to invite him to the courtyard for dinner. That day, Aunt Lin bought him fish, but he didn't even have time to eat a few bites before he was called back to the police station.
"Officer Shan is so busy now," Aunt Lin said with some disappointment. "It seems that he won't have much time to come to the Siheyuan in the future."
"Aunt Lin, since you like him so much, let him be your godson." Mu Zishan joked.
"Zishan is making fun of Aunt Lin again," she went to the kitchen. "I just like this kid, he's so sincere."
Zhuo Qiang and Mu Zishan looked at each other. Aunt Lin seemed to be annoyed with them.
Most people believed Zhuo Qiang never publicly revealed his wife to the media because he feared the scandals surrounding him would affect her. However, the more he did so, the more curious reporters became about the woman behind Zhuo Qiang's backstory. Sometimes, they even staked out Zhuo Qiang's company and followed him back to the courtyard. This was a common occurrence. Aunt Lin had always seen gossipy reporters lurking at the courtyard gate. She politely asked them to leave, but security often intervened.
However, after a week, for some reason, Aunt Lin never saw those reporters at the door again.
Mu Zishan sat in the yard, looking at the jars that had originally contained snakes, and smiled strangely. She hadn't expected these reporters to be so timid. She had only released a small, non-venomous snake, and they had all been scared away.
Zhuo Qiang also found it strange that the reporters who had been pestering him hadn't been around much lately. Back at the courtyard that night, Aunt Lin asked him, "Master, were you the one who sent those reporters away?"
"I don't have the time," Zhuo Qiang said. "Maybe you'll give up if you can't get any news from me."
"Really?" Mu Zishan blinked. "Which aspect are you talking about?"
Zhuo Qiang had a bad feeling when he heard her say that. He asked Aunt Lin to leave first, then looked at her and said, "Of course it's the news of your marriage." Seeing that she didn't look like she was interrogating him and that there was a clear look of joy on her face, he felt a little surprised and asked, "You didn't send those people away, did you?"
"It took a snake," she said, "to scare it away."
"You keep snakes in the yard?" Zhuo Qiang looked at her in surprise.
"He ran away." She shrugged and said indifferently.
"Auntie Lin, please buy some realgar tomorrow." Zhuo Qiang stood up and left, saying to Auntie Lin.
"What's wrong? A snake got into the house?" Aunt Lin was a little confused.
Mu Zishan pouted and helped Aunt Lin pack up before returning to her room.
Zhuo Qiang was lying on the sofa, watching a sports game. When she passed by him, he pulled her into his arms. She struggled a few times, but couldn't escape his grasp.
"What do you want?" She placed her hands on his chest.
"Ouyang Yusheng is back," he said, "Did he call you?"
Today, Zhuo Qiang attended a real estate developer conference. Ouyang Yusheng, as the largest investor, sat in the most prominent seat. Clearly, he noticed the wedding ring on his finger. After the meeting, the two took the same elevator to the rooftop restaurant.
"I called, but I didn't answer."
"No wonder he looked at me with something strange in his eyes." Zhuo Qiang said.
During the meal, although they were not arranged to sit at the same table, Ouyang Yusheng chose to sit opposite him, and every word he said seemed to be directed at him.
"What's wrong? Did you see him?" Mu Zishan said.
"We had dinner together," he pressed her down, "and judging from his appearance, he seems to have bad intentions."
"He's not bad." When she said this, he blocked her mouth.
"You are not allowed to praise another man in front of me, especially Ouyang Yusheng."
Mu Zishan pushed him away: "But you still have to be careful with him."
He held her in his arms; at least she was on his side now.
The next night, just as she was about to lie down to sleep, a real-time news report about Zhuo Qiang came out on the gossip newspaper. Attached to the report was a photo of Zhuo Qiang and a strange woman. From the photographer's perspective, it looked like they were kissing.
She got up, changed, hailed a cab, and arrived at the bar. Wrapped in a black windbreaker, she entered the incredibly noisy bar and spotted Zhuo Qiang in the crowd. As expected, he was surrounded by a group of women, and there were several others around him. She walked around the bar but didn't spot any reporters. Perhaps someone there was using the photo to profit from the gossip media.
Suddenly, a man coming towards her attacked her.
"Are you a woman?" The man lowered his head to look at her, almost falling to the ground in a daze. "Um, brother will buy you a drink." He went over to find a waitress, "Give her a drink."
"Yes, sir."
Mu Zishan wanted to leave, but he held her hand: "Don't go!"
With a backhand, she pushed him back to the ground. His friend came over, wanting to stand up for him, but was frightened by her cold gaze and quickly helped his friend up.
"Master Zhuo," the man sitting next to Zhuo Qiang said to him, "that woman must be to your liking."
Zhuo Qiang looked in the direction he pointed, and saw Mu Zishan picking up the man at that moment. He stood up suddenly, avoided the women, and walked towards Mu Zishan.
"Mr. Zhuo!" the man called out, but he didn't even turn his head and continued to drink his wine, but his eyes did not leave that direction.
Zhuo Qiang pushed the men away: "Go away." As soon as she saw him, she turned and left, straight out of the bar.
The driver outside the bar saw Zhuo Qiang coming out and quickly drove over and followed behind the two of them.
Seeing that Mu Zishan ignored him, he chased after him: "This street is not very safe!"
Seeing her get in the car, he followed her in and sat beside her, reeking of alcohol. Mu Zishan saw the clean clothes in the car and picked them up and threw them in the back.
Anyone with a discerning eye could tell she was angry, but he wanted to see what she would do next. This woman, who had never been jealous, would react to what happened today.
After returning to the courtyard, Mu Zishan went back to his room and locked the door. He had no choice but to spend the night in another room. In the morning, Aunt Lin noticed that he didn't come out of the master bedroom and asked, "Master, what are you doing?"
"I was temporarily exiled to the frontier."
Aunt Lin was amused by his humor: "It seems that I have provoked Zishan."
Mu Zishan came out and sat opposite him as if nothing had happened and drank some milk.
He said tentatively: "About yesterday's social event..."
