Sitting around the fire, three hungry children stared at the food on the grill, waiting for the delicious food to be eaten. At night, the stars in the wild were particularly beautiful. The three of them lay in the tent, with their heads exposed, admiring such a beautiful night view, and even saw a few falling stars.
The sky gradually brightened, and Ouyang Zishan, who was sleeping between the two of them, sat up: "Hey, get up quickly."
Jin Lu and Xia Yue opened their eyes and saw her open the tent and walk out.
The two followed her and saw, like her, a rainbow in the distance and new mushrooms growing in the woods. Before dawn, the area had been washed clean by the rain.
They packed up all their things and prepared to go back.
Various goats were seen on the road, enjoying the delicious grass after the rain.
At the same time, her parents were suffering from various pains.
Africa was a land rife with disease. She contracted malaria, becoming emaciated and lying in a hospital bed, receiving treatment. She had already done much for the land, investigating the backgrounds of various companies and ensuring that those predators hadn't taken much advantage. The local chief trusted her enough to allow her to enter the land, bringing doctors and ethical merchants with her.
The animals on the African grasslands are another group of animals that she cares about. Poachers and wealthy individuals who exploit the land for their own pleasure ultimately don't benefit much. She advocates for the establishment of protected areas, allowing local tribes to consciously manage and protect these precious animals.
Recalling what she had done over the years, her tired heart began to burn. She still had a lot to do, so she was afraid of reaching the end of her life.
She hid her identity, which was also a risky experience. It was difficult for foreigners without identity to get protection in this land, and she had been wandering for a long time.
Now, she seemed to feel the coming of death, so she decided to write a letter and send it back home to her daughter whom she missed.
In Europe, Ouyang Yusheng's wife had decided to divorce him; they had no children. This was Ouyang Yusheng's greatest regret when he left the world. But he had seen his granddaughter, Ouyang Zishan, in the photos sent from China, the child he had never acknowledged.
Grandpa's departure has thrown the entire family into chaos. He has no time to look for Mu Zishan, nor can he see his daughter. He wants to save the family empire. His mother's help is no longer of any use. She has found a quiet farm and is ready to live out the rest of her life in peace.
Ouyang Yusheng seemed to be alive again. He had endless energy and he didn't want his children to live in such an environment. He just sent someone to be by Ouyang Zishan's side to observe her daily life.
Every time he saw Ouyang Zishan and Wang Yao's family living a simple and happy life, he couldn't help but want to fly to her side, hug her and kiss her. But he knew that if he took her back to his side, she would definitely not live the carefree life she has now.
So he took it all upon himself and didn't let anyone know.
But Ouyang Yusheng didn't know that the fir trees in Africa were about to die.
One day, Wang Yao went out in the morning and saw a letter in the mailbox with Mu Zishan's name on it. She excitedly returned to the living room and opened the letter. She called the whole family together and sat in the dining room. Wang Yao read the letter word by word:
Wang Yao, and children, how are you?
I'm sorry it took so long to write to you.
I'm in very bad shape now and may not survive the summer here.
Please don't be sad for me, everyone will go to another place sooner or later.
Dear child, thank you for continuing the lives of daddy and mommy.
I hope you can forget about us (incompetent parents). Wang Yao’s family is your family. No matter what difficulties you encounter, I hope you can be strong.
Love you Muzishan
Wang Yao tried to find something else in the envelope, but there was nothing there. She didn't even want to keep the address. Ouyang Zishan lay on the table, sobbing. She didn't understand why her mother would send a suicide note. Was she really dead? She hadn't even called her mother in person yet.
The two boys were at a loss, and Wang Yao kept crying. She wiped away her tears and went to the kitchen, suppressing her sadness and preparing lunch for the children.
In the subway and in the classroom, Ouyang Zishan looked absent-minded, not paying attention to the teacher's questions. At noon, the three of them sat on the rooftop, the wind ruffling her hair as she struggled to swallow her food.
"Ouyang, don't you still have us?" Xia Yue said, "Aren't my parents your parents? Look, you still have two brothers, right?"
She couldn't hold back the grievance in her heart and burst into tears: "How could she die?"
"Xia Yue, stop talking." Jin Lu warned.
"I just wanted to comfort her."
Her crying attracted the attention of the classmate opposite. Jin Lu took out a hat from her bag and helped her put it on. In this way, the three of them spent the whole afternoon together.
Her sadness lasted for a week, and the whole family had to take turns to take care of her carefully.
Later, her two brothers often took her to volunteer activities, and gradually she began to forget her sorrow and no longer longed for her biological parents' return. She began to become strong, which made Wang Yao very happy.
The school's first exam was approaching, and they were busy reviewing. Study time was quiet. Sitting by the window, she saw a paper airplane folded onto her desk. She opened it and looked inside: "Hey, look below."
She looked down and saw the boy who had snatched her phone last time, only this time he was wearing a school uniform. She threw a pencil down to scare him away.
