When she got the supplementary card that afternoon, she was so happy that she spent two hours at the ice cream shop. Every fifteen minutes, Zhuo Qiang's phone received a consumption text message, and in two hours, he received eight text messages from the same shop.
At dinner, Zhuo Qiang only had Aunt Lin make a simple salad, but she didn't eat much and went back to her room to sleep. He had no children and didn't know how to raise one, so he could only treat this child the same way his parents treated him when he was a child.
But she was no ordinary girl. On the second day, she made ten purchases at the supermarket, all of them chocolate. On the third, she bought fifty coffees at a cafe. On the fourth, she went to a candy store. On the fifth, she went to a bakery. It was as if she'd bought everything she hadn't bought since she was a kid, and she'd learned to share.
However, as time went on, she lost some of the novelty and became interested in the performing arts company behind the desk wall. Whenever she didn't have classes, she would follow the company's artists from one filming location to another.
Every time Leo followed him to the set, they would get along well and even indulge in the thrill of being an actor. But she couldn't do that, and in a safe environment, she had to be cautious.
"Ouyang," Leo said, "this isn't much fun. Let's go to the concert tonight."
"But I want to stay here."
"So you just watch and do nothing?" Leo didn't know what she was thinking.
"You should go to the concert by yourself."
Seeing that she was not leaving, Leo had to leave first and go find other friends.
She found a shady place, lay on a chair with sunglasses on, chewing gum, and saw a chaotic scene in front of her.
"Tell me, how do we shoot this scene?" the director said. "I need a middle school student. Who did you find?"
An assistant noticed Ouyang Zishan and took her directly to the makeup car, put on her school uniform, and pushed her in front of the camera, making her nervous all of a sudden, not knowing where to put her hands and feet.
"Is this the one you found? You're an idiot who knows nothing. What are you doing standing there like an idiot? Didn't they teach you your lines?" the director yelled.
She quickly took the script, but couldn't quite understand it. Luckily, someone nearby reminded her. The director couldn't bear to watch it either, so he came over and taught her a few tricks, and she was able to perform smoothly.
After they returned to the show, the director, seeing her cleverness, asked someone to give her their phone number. Before leaving, she specifically asked the staff if her scene would be broadcast. They said it played a key role in the entire show and therefore would not be cut.
After that, more and more people wanted her to act in plays, and she became busier and busier. She hurried from school to the set, and she was a little nervous because this scene required her to go on an overpass.
The director kept urging her up. She was trembling, her legs unresponsive. It was like she was standing on the edge of a cliff, as if she didn't exist in this world. She closed her eyes, thinking that as long as she could finish this scene, her parents would definitely see it when it was broadcast in a few years. She gritted her teeth, leaned forward, and fell.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her hand and the rope around her waist fell off. She looked at the waves below and was terrified. She looked up and saw Zhuo Qiang holding her hand. It felt like she had grabbed a lifeline and she grabbed his arm with both hands.
Zhuo Qiang pulled her back with all his strength, and the two of them sat on the ground. She was actually very timid, and her mind was blank. The assistant came up with a windbreaker and put it on Ouyang Zishan. She saw Zhuo Qiang walking towards the director, and from his expression he seemed to be scolding him.
She got in the car, her legs shaking uncontrollably. She hadn't expected it to be so dangerous. She started crying in the car as she thought about it. Zhuo Qiang stood outside and lit a cigarette for himself.
Later, no one asked her to film anymore, and she didn't dare to go to the set anymore.
The driver could only travel between the courtyard, the company, and the school, and could not take Ouyang Zishan to other places. Every night, Zhuo Qiang would smoke alone outside the courtyard. She would lean against the window and look at him, thinking that he must be missing someone.
What she said was indeed true. He did have someone he missed, and that was Mu Zishan. But like her, he didn't know whether Mu Zishan was dead or alive.
Ouyang Zishan went to the living room and poured two cups of hot milk, then sat next to him: "Uncle Zhuo, how did you know my mother?"
He never mentioned Mu Zishan to anyone else, but looking at her, the girl who had almost inherited Mu Zishan's excellent genes, he unconsciously wanted to tell the story about himself and her: "That year was in winter..."
He talked for a long time, but he didn't feel sleepy at all. Finally, he saw her sleeping on the chair. He helped her put on her coat, smoked one last cigarette, and then carried her back to the room.
Winter always comes early in the north, and Ouyang Zishan rarely sees snowflakes, so the first snow has been exciting her for a long time. She doesn't like wearing heavy or bulky clothes, so her feet and hands are always frozen red.
After her film was aired at the end of the year, Wang Yao was the first to call her. She and Zhuo Qiang were both reprimanded by Wang Yao.
But she finally got good news: her godmother and godfather were planning to go to Beijing for the New Year. They had already asked someone to buy her a house in Beijing that was big enough for the whole family.
Time flies. Just after the winter vacation, Wang Yao and her family went to Beijing. Wang Yao had already asked the moving company to move all her belongings to their new residence, and this time she couldn't wait to come to the courtyard.
