"Not yet." Aunt Lin opened the door for Wang Yao. She didn't expect her to come so early.
Wang Yao went to the kitchen to make some breakfast first. When Ouyang Zishan got up and went to the living room, he saw his godmother and Jin Lu there. But they didn't talk. Ouyang Zishan looked at the breakfast on the table and sat down to eat some.
Aunt Lin said to her, "Your godmother came over early this morning to help with this. Go over and have a good talk with her."
"I understand, Aunt Lin." After dinner, she sat on the sofa and turned on the TV, which was playing the news.
Wang Yao spoke up: "Ouyang, it was my godmother who was impulsive last night, don't be angry."
The first time she saw her godmother apologize, her heart softened.
Wang Yao thought about this for a long time yesterday. If she wanted to mend their relationship, she had to let go of her fear. So she decided to tell her about the trip she had planned for her: "Ouyang, Godmother knows you've wanted to see Tibet since you were little, but I've never been able to fulfill your wish. Since you and Jin Lu are both in high school and under a lot of pressure, I thought we could take this opportunity to go to Tibet together."
She blinked. She had made this wish when she was ten years old. She didn't expect her godmother still remembered it.
"So, I thought, after the festival, I'll have your brother take you to see the roof of the world. That would be considered fulfilling one of your wishes."
Ouyang Zishan never expected that her godmother, who had always been against any of her risky behaviors, would unexpectedly agree to her wish. Jin Lu, who was sitting next to her, had never expected that her mother, who had always forced them to stay in a safe zone, would actually allow her two children to travel alone.
"Godmother?" Ouyang Zishan was a little unsure, "Really?"
"Of course," she said, "but only if you both keep working out at the gym before you go to Tibet."
Although Ouyang Zishan was slapped, he felt that he had earned the opportunity to travel. In the following days, the two children went to the gym to exercise for five or six hours every day, and went to the swimming pool in the evening. Therefore, although it was a holiday, they seemed much busier.
Ouyang Zishan recently moved to a new home, and Zhuo Qiang began to feel a little uncomfortable seeing the house become empty again.
Xia Yue was responsible for supervising their exercise. Every time she saw them slacking off, she would take a picture and send it to their mother. When they returned home in the evening, they would be scolded again.
Gradually, Ouyang Zishan bribed Xia Yue and asked his classmates abroad to send her many science books. Whenever they had more exercise, he would read alone in the cafe, and Ouyang Zishan and Jin Lu became close.
Once they went to a coffee shop to find Xia Yue, but unexpectedly they met Ren Qi, who was also drinking coffee with a friend in the store, seemingly discussing something.
Jin Lu went up to say hello, then took them away.
"Brother, why is he coming to Beijing?" Ouyang Zishan asked.
"I heard he brought his grandfather to see a doctor."
"oh."
Wang Yao was making dumplings at home. Seeing her three children come back, she was very happy: "New Year's Eve is coming soon. You should stay at home and help me prepare some New Year's goods."
The three children looked at her strangely. Every Chinese New Year, their mother was the least fond of stocking up on New Year's goods.
"Godmother, are we going to invite any guests home?" Ouyang Zishan asked.
"Well, I've already informed my family and asked them to come to Beijing for the New Year this year. This is a good opportunity for everyone to get together."
When Ouyang Zishan heard the whole family was going to Beijing, he suddenly remembered the big hands of his grandmother. Every time they saw her, she would pinch the children's faces. And then there were the two boys from his uncle's family. Every time they came to their house, they would take apart every toy, forcing the three of them to put them back together again for two days. And then there were Xia Yue's grandparents, a typical family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. They would always use long silver needles to dangle in their hands, and then force them to drink bitter and astringent traditional Chinese medicine. Four elderly people, two children, and the strictness of his uncle's family made the three of them feel uncomfortable just listening to them.
Xia Yu came out of the kitchen after washing her hands and helped her godmother make dumplings. Seeing the three children standing there motionless, she asked, "Are they posing in a new way?"
Wang Yao smiled and said, "They were so excited when they heard their families were coming."
"Really?" Xia Yu said happily, "Your older brother and younger brother are here, so you can't bully them."
"Dad," Xia Yue said, "they should stop bullying us."
"Hahaha," the two parents laughed together, "These three silly kids."
The three children went to the living room, not knowing what the adults were thinking.
"Oh!" Ouyang Zishan sighed, "I'd better hide the puzzle I spent a month putting together."
Jin Lu looked at the newly bought piano with some sadness: "The underground warehouse is mine."
"Ah, what about my game console?" Xia Yue said, "They will definitely be the first to be sacrificed."
Jin Lu and Ouyang Zishan said in unison: "A moment of silence!"
One day before New Year's Eve, godfather took Jin Lu to the airport to pick up the whole family. As Ouyang Zishan guessed, the whole family took turns to act out the pre-conceived scenarios.
Xia Yue was struggling to protect her toys in the room, Ouyang Zishan was being pinched on his not-so-flesh face by his grandmother, and Jin Lu was gritting his teeth to endure the close contact of acupuncture.
The whole family celebrated the Spring Festival in a noisy and chaotic manner. Only the three of them seemed a little exhausted. But what made them happy was that the uncle gave each of them a big red envelope when he left.
Ouyang Zishan touched the thick stack of New Year's money and felt full of strength again. She could finally ask her godmother for advice on buying a computer.
