"My neighbor is the best informant my godmother has placed on my side." Looking at the bag in his hand, he asked, "Why did you come to see me?"
"I brought you some food. I asked the chef at home to make it specially. Try it." He opened the bag.
Because of that mountaineering trip in Tibet, the two of them became friends, and every time he helped to cover up for himself, doing bad things under his godmother's nose: "It looks good."
"Not bad, isn't it?" He looked around. "I heard that your godparents were out for a meeting and won't be back for a week?"
"Ah!" She nodded. "What bad idea do you have? I have classes tomorrow. You don't know, my godmother is almost a private detective. If I skip class, I might be back in two hours."
"I didn't ask you to skip class," he said. "I just wanted to take you out for dinner tonight. Is that okay?"
"Sure!" she agreed readily, "but I have to go back and change my clothes first, so the neighbors won't recognize me."
"I've prepared it for you," he said, opening another bag, revealing a men's suit. "This way they won't recognize you."
"Ren Qi, you're so smart!" She carried her things upstairs and came out after changing her clothes. Because she was tall and thin, and she was wearing a hat, she really looked like a boy.
The two walked out of the community and got in the car. They went to the zoo first, then to the amusement park, and finally had a Western meal. They walked on the road, playing and joking, and soon arrived at the entrance of the community.
"Ouyang!" Ren Qi grabbed her hand, "Can I ask you something?"
"What's up?"
"Will you be my girlfriend?" He liked her. "You don't have to answer so quickly." He let go of her hand and stood aside.
"That..." He didn't expect him to say this, "You know my godmother, if she knew..."
"So do you like me?" he asked.
"I like him!" She lowered her head. The first time they met, he left a deep impression on her. Moreover, the feeling he had in her heart was indeed different from that of other boys. Sometimes, she would even feel her heart pounding when he got close to her. Maybe this is what is called love.
"I knew it," he said, scratching her nose. "Will you look at me?"
She raised her head and just happened to touch his lips. Ren Qi was satisfied because she did not reject him, so he let her go. Later, Ren Qi would find an opportunity to pick her up from school and spend the shortest time talking to her.
Ren Qi was admitted to a university in the city, and she also went to high school, and her time was getting shorter and shorter. Later, her godmother and godfather were often away on business, and they were worried about her being alone at home, so they decided to let her live in the school.
This gave Ouyang Zishan and Ren Qi more time to spend together. As long as Ouyang Zishan's grades did not drop, his godmother would rarely call the school, and she would go out to play with Ren Qi every weekend.
Their relationship grew stronger and stronger. She knew he liked music and painting, and he knew she liked detective work. Whenever they had time, they would go on adventures, whether it was a man-made secret room or a real scene. As long as they were willing, they would always be there.
Thus, she lived peacefully until her eighteenth birthday, fulfilling her godmother's wishes. Jin Lu had become an accomplished pianist, and Xia Yue had enrolled at the university he'd most desired, conducting experiments under his mentor. The whole family gathered, and her godmother seemed deeply moved, her words often sentimental. She hadn't invited Zhuo Qiang and Mu Zi'an to celebrate her birthday, but they had already sent gifts.
In the evening, the whole family cut the cake. At this time, someone knocked on the door. It was Ren Qi. He came in with a gift: "Hello, uncle and aunt."
It wasn't the first time that her godmother had seen him, but the fact that he came in at this time clearly indicated that there was something wrong between him and Ouyang Zishan. Ouyang Zishan waved at him from behind, asking him to leave quickly. Her godmother was not an ordinary smart person. By allowing him to come at this time, wasn't it telling her that there was something wrong between the two of them?
Jin Lu quickly went over to take his gift: "Mom, I was the one who told Ren Qi that today is Ouyang Zishan's birthday," and then said to Ren Qi, "Why did you come if you wanted to? Why did you bring a gift?"
"Oh," Ren Qi quickly picked up on him, "Hasn't it been a while since I last saw you? Old classmate."
Ouyang Zishan felt a chill on the back of his head. Sure enough, his godmother went straight back to her room, and his godfather went up to check on the situation. The four of them stood in the living room, and Ouyang Zishan whispered, "Why are you here?"
"I think Auntie will know sooner or later," he said, "it's better to confess and get some leniency."
She held her head and said, "Forget it. It's already like this. Let's not hide it from everyone."
Xia Yue was still confused and looked at the two of them: "What does this mean?"
"Don't worry about it." Ouyang Zishan went upstairs by himself and stood outside his godmother's room. After thinking about it, he knocked on the door.
"Come in!" Godfather came out, let him in, and went downstairs himself.
In the living room, the godfather was very polite to Ren Qi and poured him some tea. "Logically speaking, Ouyang is already eighteen years old, and we as parents have no right to interfere in your relationship. However, as you know, our family situation is quite complicated, and Ouyang's godmother has a straightforward temper. Please don't take it to heart if she has done anything to you wrong."
"Uncle, I understand." Ren Qi drank the tea and looked at the room upstairs. There was some quarreling sound inside.
Ouyang Zishan knelt on the ground: "Godmother."
"It seems I trusted you too much. Tell me, what's going on between you and that man called Ren Qi?"
