Ling Jiao came out of the restaurant and curiously turned her head to look at the restaurant's sign.
Although she is somewhat famous now, it's unlikely that any fan would be so generous.
This is a high-end restaurant; their meal just now cost nearly two thousand.
"What's wrong?" Fu Shiqin asked.
“That’s a bit strange,” Ling Jiao said.
Fu Shiqin opened the car door for her and waited for her to get in before returning to the driver's seat.
"Something's strange about it."
"He said their boss is a fan of mine, but he always seems to only realize I'm here when I'm actually at the restaurant," Ling Jiao muttered, glancing at the restaurant again. "But he's offering me free food and an autograph, yet he never shows up."
Fans like this usually want both autographs and photos.
However, this so-called fan only asked for an autograph and didn't even show up.
"Uh...maybe the boss was a bit busy and happened to be out, so he asked the waiter to help him get an autograph," Fu Shiqin said with a smile.
The restaurant owner had been sitting across from her the whole time, but she couldn't know about this right now.
Ling Jiao only muttered to herself out of curiosity for a while before giving up.
Fu Shiqin looked at the sky; night had just fallen.
Are there any other places you'd like to go?
"No, I want to go back and read some books," Ling Jiao said.
Aside from work, she usually stays at home reading or learning other skills; she doesn't really enjoy going out.
"What book?" Fu Shiqin asked.
"Colleen McCullough's 'The Thorn Birds,' but my foreign language skills aren't very good, so I didn't read it very smoothly," Ling Jiao said with a self-deprecating laugh.
Fu Shiqin listened and read a passage aloud while driving.
"Each of us has something we are unwilling to give up, even if it causes us unbearable pain."
"But that's how we are, like the thornbird in the ancient Celtic legend, weeping blood and dying in the thorn bushes."
"We created our own thicket of thorns, never calculating the cost, enduring the torment of pain, and telling ourselves it was all worth it."
...
Ling Jiao stared at him in astonishment, then smiled after a long while.
"You've seen it too?"
"I read it when I was in school, but it was the translated version. The English version was too much of a headache. Only weirdos like my brother and sister-in-law like foreign books." Fu Shiqin said, not forgetting to complain about his own brother and sister-in-law.
“The English version has a unique charm that the Chinese version doesn’t,” Ling Jiao said.
However, she is not very proficient in foreign languages, so reading foreign books is still a bit difficult for her.
“If you like, just let me know if there are any books you’d like to see in the future. I have so many books in my study,” Fu Shiqin said.
Ling Jiao smiled and nodded, "What kind of books does Mrs. Fu like to read?"
Fu Shiqin stopped at the traffic light intersection and glanced at her.
"She seems to have recently become interested in some love poems with my brother, but you seem to be more interested in my sister-in-law."
“She is the youngest and most talented female director in China, so it’s normal for me to be curious,” Ling Jiao said.
There are many people in China who are curious about the amazing talent of the young female director. According to media reports, she applied to the Beijing Film Academy but never attended a class.
However, since entering the industry, every role he has played has become a classic, which is why he is widely regarded as a legend.
“When you have time later, you can come to our house and get to know her properly. She has mentioned you a few times,” Fu Shiqin said.
Ling Jiao smiled and replied, "Okay, I'll definitely go when I have time."
She thought that getting to know such a talented director would greatly benefit her acting skills.
