Around noon, Fu Hanzheng's private jet landed in Beijing.
However, due to the long flight, Kaman was clearly unwell. After getting off the plane, they did not go back to the Fu family's old house first, but took Kaman to the hospital for a check-up.
Fortunately, it wasn't a serious problem. The doctor prescribed some medicine and told me to have two IV drips before I could go home.
Kaman Dorrance felt rather guilty that his poor health had delayed their return home.
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."
"It's alright, I should finish losing soon," Gu Weiwei said with a faint smile.
Although she was also eager to go back and see her two children, it was Carman Dorrance's first time spending the New Year at the Fu family's home, and she was afraid he would feel uncomfortable if she didn't personally accompany him back.
Moreover, I learned from the phone call with Madam Fu that Youyou and Tiantian are very well-behaved and are helping Fu Shiqin and Fu Shengying hang lanterns.
Since they couldn't make it back for lunch, Fu Shiqin bought them sandwiches and drinks nearby so they could have a quick bite at the hospital.
The three people stayed at the hospital while waiting for the test results and while Carman Dorrance received an IV drip.
The meeting didn't end until after 4 p.m., and only after confirming that Kaman Dorrance had no other symptoms did they help him into the car and sit down.
To make things more convincing, Fu Shiqin picked them up in a minivan and even took on the responsibility of being the driver.
"Sister-in-law, call Mom and tell her we're heading back."
"I'm on the phone." Gu Weiwei was on her cell phone, having already dialed Mrs. Fu's number.
Mrs. Fu answered the phone after it had only rung twice.
"Weiwei, have you turned back yet?"
"Yes, I'm already on the bus. I'll be home soon," Gu Weiwei said.
"Okay, then I'll have the kitchen prepare the stir-fried dishes. I'm just worried that if I make them too early, they'll be cold when you get back." Madam Fu's tone couldn't hide her joy.
Gu Weiwei smiled and said, "Thank you for your hard work, Mom."
"Don't be so polite, we're family. Be careful on the road," Mrs. Fu said, then hung up the phone and busied herself preparing the New Year's Eve dinner.
Fu Hanzheng reached out and took her hand, asking her gently.
"Tired?"
On the plane, Kaman Dorrance didn't get enough rest because she wasn't feeling well.
This trip to the hospital must have been exhausting.
"No." Gu Weiwei shook her head, and thinking that she was almost home, she no longer felt tired.
Fu Hanzheng checked the time, then helped her lean her head against him.
"It'll be a while before we get back, I'll take a nap."
Gu Weiwei obediently closed her eyes. She wasn't particularly sleepy, but she still rested for a while.
Kaman Dorrance saw the couple snuggling together in the rearview mirror and smiled silently.
It's so good that she's so happy now.
The usually talkative Fu Shiqin drove silently, taking the three of them back to the Fu family's old house.
Despite their haste, they didn't arrive back at the Fu family's old house until after five o'clock, just as dusk was falling.
The Fu family's old house was brightly lit, and the Chinese-style villa looked especially festive under the glow of red lanterns.
Fu Shiqin got out of the car and frowned at his father's poor taste.
"It's like you're getting married during the Chinese New Year."
As soon as they got out of the car, Fu Shengying and the others came to greet them with Youyou and Tiantian.
At first, the two little buns didn't recognize them when they came out, but when they got a little closer, they did recognize them. Their cute little faces lit up with bright smiles, and they happily wobbled over on their short legs.
Gu Weiwei squatted down, opened her arms to welcome the two little buns who rushed towards her, and hugged one in each arm and kissed them on the cheek.
"I'm sorry, Mom is late."
