After a long silence, Madam Gu pleaded, her voice choked with emotion.
"Weiwei, please, just this once."
Gu Weiwei felt somewhat guilty, remembering the kindness she had shown in raising her.
“Madam Gu, I will arrange for someone to help you with the funeral, but your request… I really can’t do anything about it.”
Gu Siting wanted her to die with him, but she didn't want to die again. She already had too many things in this world that she couldn't let go of.
She only wanted Gu Siting to attend Old Master Gu's funeral, but once Gu Siting was out of Fu Hanzheng's control, there were too many outsiders around, and with the Kuroda family getting involved, everything would completely spiral out of control, a price she couldn't afford to pay.
"Weiwei, his grandfather was worried about him before he passed away and wanted to see him one more time. No matter how you try to control him, I just want him to see his grandfather one more time," Madam Gu pleaded in a low voice.
Gu Weiwei pursed her lips, but still firmly refused.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Gu."
Mrs. Fu saw that she looked rather unwell after hanging up the phone.
"What's wrong?"
"Old Master Gu has passed away, and Gu Weiwei hopes that Gu Siting can attend the funeral," Gu Weiwei said.
She could completely understand such a request.
If Gu Siting hadn't posed a threat to her life, she would have definitely agreed to his request, but she couldn't; she dared not take the risk.
"Impossible. Not only would Han Zheng not agree, but I wouldn't agree either," Madam Fu said with a stern face.
Gu Weiwei sighed heavily. "I called Yuan Meng and asked her to arrange for someone to go and help with the funeral."
After speaking with Yuan Meng on the phone, she still felt uneasy thinking about the phone call she had received from Madam Gu.
“I know you cherish the memory of her raising you, but we can try our best to fulfill any other requests. There’s just one thing we can’t do,” Madam Fu said very seriously.
Because of the fact that someone in the Gu family died, they let Gu Siting attend the funeral. But later, Gu Siting wanted to drag her down with him. Their family lost their daughter-in-law, and their children lost their mother. Who would care about them then?
"I didn't agree, but I felt a little guilty," Gu Weiwei confessed.
Madam Fu didn't sympathize with her as much. "If it weren't for the fact that she raised you, she would have wiped out the Gu family long ago. Last time she came begging to see you, and this time she even asked you to release them to attend the funeral. Next time she'll beg you to release them and compensate them for the Gu family's losses."
"Okay, Mom." Gu Weiwei knew that her mother was protecting her, so she reached out and took her arm in a coquettish manner.
"Don't think we don't know about what you promised her last time. We just turned a blind eye because you handled it well," Madam Fu warned.
Gu Weiwei stuck out her tongue. "You guys really can't hide anything from each other."
"It's because you promised her last time that she dared to speak up again this time," Madam Fu said sternly.
They were told to be considerate of the passing of the Gu family patriarch and allow Gu Siting to attend the funeral.
However, they were not so magnanimous. They kidnapped Weiwei several times and also abducted Youyou.
If Gu Siting hadn't been so heartless, he wouldn't have come to this. It's all his own fault. All they're doing now is trying to protect her.
"Then please don't tell Dad and the others about this anymore, okay?" Gu Weiwei said.
They'll be very worried and anxious when they find out.
They can never remain calm when it comes to anything related to the Gu family.
Therefore, it's easy to imagine how difficult it was for this family to accept her arrival.
