Gu Weiwei was slightly surprised, then realized what she meant and smiled.
"Of course I'm interested."
She was just regretting that it was only a brief meeting, but Martin came down and told her they could stay for dinner.
In the blink of an eye, Kaman Dorrance appeared before her again, offering to show her around his home.
Kaman Dorrance led the way and casually told her about the history of the castle, showing none of the haughty and aloof master of the Dorrance family that was rumored to be.
Gu Weiwei maintained a polite distance as she walked alongside him, listening to his words with a smile.
This was the first time in over twenty years that she had been so close to her biological father, and probably... the last.
Now that she has decided to let go of the past, everything that belongs to Gu Weiwei should be let go of as well.
Whether it's taking care of the family or being a belated biological father.
Matthew stood at the study window, watching the two people strolling and chatting on the lawn. They didn't seem like they were meeting for the first time at all.
As a longtime friend of Carman Dorrance, he knew his temperament all too well; he was far less friendly to people he met for the first time.
He treated this Chinese girl exceptionally differently today.
Kaman Dorrance led her around to the back of the castle, where there was a patch of wisteria flowers that had long since withered.
Gu Weiwei was surprised and felt a mix of emotions.
"How come there are wisteria flowers?"
Kaman Dorrance glanced at it and said.
“My daughter, Vivian Dorrance, loved wisteria when she was alive.”
Gu Weiwei pursed her lips, her nose feeling a little sore.
"It must be very beautiful when it blooms."
"Yes, it's very beautiful when it blooms, but unfortunately she never had the chance to come back and see it."
Kaman Dorrance sighed sadly, then leaned on his cane and continued to lead the way for her.
Gu Weiwei looked at the figure in front of her, trying hard to hold back the tears that were about to spill from her eyes.
She thought that he had placed her in the Gu family and hadn't visited her for so many years because he had long forgotten about her as his daughter.
Or perhaps, her existence wasn't that important to him.
Only at this moment did I truly understand what he was thinking.
He hadn't forgotten her, and it was precisely because he valued her so much that he wanted to give her a safe environment to grow up in, rather than letting her grow up amidst the intrigue and backstabbing within the Dorrance family.
However, things are unpredictable, and things did not go as he wished.
"When Yuan Shuo was at the Fu family, did he say anything to you?" Kaman Dorrance stopped and turned to look at her.
Gu Weiwei was stunned for a moment, then came to her senses and said.
"When he and Yuan Meng rescued Gu Weiwei during that assassination attempt, she was only injured. They had no idea what happened after she returned to the Gu family."
"Unaware?" Kaman Dorrance smiled mysteriously and said, "That's too flimsy an excuse."
“If Yuan Shuo really betrayed you and helped Yuan Meng and the Anderson family to murder her, they would have had many opportunities to do so long ago. They wouldn’t have waited so many years to make their move and then so easily become suspicious of you,” Gu Weiwei said.
Kaman Dorrance: "It is a fact that the Anderson family was involved, and it is also a fact that Yuan Meng is a member of the Anderson family. Yuan Shuo failed in his duty. He swore an oath with his life, and he did not keep his promise to me."
Gu Weiwei remained silent for a moment before offering a reminder.
“Mr. Dorrance, if you only focus on their mistakes, you might miss the real culprit.”
A sharp glint flashed in Kaman Dorrance's eyes. "The real killer?"
“When Yuan Shuo and the others last saw her, she was only seriously injured, but she died after returning to the Gu family. Her heart was even transplanted to someone else. This is the key point you should be investigating,” Gu Weiwei said.
