A dozen minutes later, Fu Hanzheng called back.
"Did your mother go to look for you?"
Not long after Madam Fu returned home, she sent this message. It was easy to guess that her mother had come to see her.
Furthermore, they told her that the old lady would only agree to the surgery if they got a divorce.
He may have even advised her to divorce him.
"Mm." Gu Weiwei knew she couldn't hide it from him, so she didn't deny it.
"So, you want a divorce?" Fu Hanzheng asked in a low voice.
He remembered that on the day they got their marriage certificate, she held it tightly in her arms, even while sleeping.
Only a month has passed, yet they are being asked to end their marriage.
She must be heartbroken right now.
“Grandma’s illness is more important. We must choose the lesser of two evils.” Gu Weiwei tried to keep her voice calm so he wouldn’t hear her sadness. “If we don’t get a divorce, and something really happens to Grandma, how can we possibly be happy and at peace with ourselves?”
Her relationship with the Gu family had a huge impact on Old Madam Fu and Fu Shengying, especially since it came from Gu Siting's mouth, making it even harder for them to accept.
She knew they would react this way if they had known, but she didn't expect to feel so sad on this day.
Fu Hanzheng listened to her voice in silence for a while before speaking.
"Weiwei, about this matter... let's talk about it in person when we get back to China, okay?"
Although she spoke to him calmly and sensibly, based on his understanding of her, he knew that her true feelings were definitely not as calm as her voice suggested.
Under the current circumstances, he must give the old lady a divorce certificate before she will cooperate with the treatment.
However, he didn't want to discuss things that would upset her over the phone.
"Fu Hanzheng, you don't need to put yourself in such a difficult position." Gu Weiwei didn't agree to his request and said calmly, "It's just a divorce. Does the absence of a marriage certificate mean you won't love me anymore?"
Admittedly, she didn't want to get a divorce, but now it was a matter of life and death.
She couldn't let her own willfulness delay Old Mrs. Fu's treatment.
Although she was heartbroken by the way the old lady asked her to divorce Fu Hanzheng, she had always felt sorry for him before this.
“Of course not,” Fu Hanzheng said.
Regardless of whether they have a marriage certificate or not, his feelings for her will not change.
The marriage certificate was merely a way for her to become Mrs. Fu in name and in fact.
"So, getting a divorce isn't a big deal. Let Grandma get surgery first." Gu Weiwei had already made the decision for the two of them.
As for them, there's plenty of time; they can gradually change the Fu family's mind.
“Weiwei…”
Fu Hanzheng sighed. She didn't want to put him in a difficult position, so she brought it up with him on her own initiative.
Neither of them wanted a divorce, but given the current situation, they had to separate for a while to allow the old lady and father to calm down.
"I can't leave for the time being. You should get some rest. Fu Shiyi will bring you back. We can talk about the rest when we get back."
Although he longed to go back and see her, his father kept an eye on him, and the old lady had just woken up.
At this point, he couldn't go against their wishes, lest the old lady be further agitated and something bad happen.
"I know, don't worry about me," Gu Weiwei said with a light laugh.
He has always been the one thinking of her and accommodating her many ideas.
This time, she couldn't put him in a difficult position either. She had to make some concessions and sacrifices before Old Madam Fu recovered.
