Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Why didn't I just run away?

Years later, Jesse would occasionally find himself drifting off to the afternoon sun, sipping cocktails beneath the bar's wall lights, joking and reminiscing with his friends about the past, and so on, when his mind would suddenly flash back to Little Asia. The people Little Asia met, the events she faced, and finally, naturally, Noble, would come to mind. He would recall the moment they met, and sigh again: What if I hadn't listened to you, and had just left?

That way they wouldn't have known each other, wouldn't have argued, and wouldn't have lost contact since "that time."

My former friend, the one who symbolizes my cowardly and childish past, how are you doing now? ... Are you still alive? Will you remain forever in that youthful, somewhat ridiculous age?

...and Jesse knew nothing about it back then.

/

"F***." Noble turned around and raised his middle finger at the crowd behind him. A startlingly intense sarcasm appeared on his face, which was usually expressionless. "That's it? Haha."

The expressions of the people behind were clearer. The enraged guys chased after him, shouting. Several times, the leader almost grabbed the corner of Noble's clothes, but this guy who seemed to have eyes on his back dodged him at tricky angles, even causing the people behind him to accidentally fall, which then turned into a stampede.

When someone realizes that the scenery along the way is no longer familiar territory, they try to shout, but no one pays attention. Only Noble, who also heard the shout, can no longer restrain himself, and a genuine and arrogant smile appears on his face.

...a bunch of idiots.

He fell into an abandoned building and disappeared. The group shouted, "Find him!" and "Kill him!" Those who noticed something was wrong tried to calm everyone down, but their words were drowned out by the loud shouting. From nowhere, a mechanical click sounded, and the door that controlled the only light source in this place fell rapidly. There were no glass windows here.

The clanging sound was particularly prominent in the sudden silence. In the darkness, they could not see each other's expressions or tell who was around them.

Where is that brat? No one knows.

…They could only hear their companions’ exclamations, followed by the dull thud of heavy objects falling to the ground. They couldn’t tell whether the person next to them was a companion or an enemy.

However, identifying the enemy was too easy for Noble - because everyone here was an enemy.

Just need, just need! ... Just need the one left here, the one still standing... Just me!

/

After confirming that the group had gone far away, Jesse emerged from the bushes. He really wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to escape, but he was afraid that Noble would come back to retaliate after escaping. Come on, that guy dared to take on a group of human traffickers alone. If he was just going after Jesse, wouldn't he be hunted to the ends of the earth? There were probably eight or nine people following him. If Noble could get around and avoid being caught, he could probably hold off for a while before slipping away.

Anyway…anyway, if there are a lot of people left, just give it a try and run. You've already tried, so what if it doesn't work? Don't blame him then!

The more Jesse thought about it, the more confident he felt, almost reaching the moral high ground. He dusted off his clothes and pants, which were covered in dust and leaves, and lowered his footsteps. He didn't dare climb the tree again this time, but peeking through the door shouldn't be a problem, after all, that guy had already led most of the people away.

He pried open the door and looked inside: thankfully, there were a group of tied-up kids and a grown man with his back to him, so he could attack him from behind.

However, there are always some who fail to catch the attention of the group of kids, who were all attracted by the sudden appearance of the stranger's face. The man obviously noticed that the children's eyes were focused on one place. He subconsciously turned his head.

At that moment, it seemed as if everyone was moving in slow motion.

A voice came from my ear: "Little mouse."

A sharp girl's voice came from the group of little brats: "Behind you——"

He rolled on the ground according to his body's instinct, and the wooden stick hit the mud with great force. Only then did he have a little time to react: Oh, it turns out that there is someone behind me in my blind spot. "Little Mouse" is calling me, and "behind me" is also talking to me.

It also gave him a little time to assess the situation: the burly guy who had just arrived next to him, and the equally burly guy who had already rushed over from inside.

Known: Jesse is a skilled underage player. The enemy is an adult player with weapons.

Question: What are Jesse’s chances of winning?

Jesse's answer: F*** Y**

/

Let’s call those two burly guys Thug A and Thug B.

The first one who was fighting with Jesse was A; the one who grabbed a bottle from the ground and rushed here was called B.

The current situation was a relatively challenging one for Jesse. Throughout his fights, Jesse's encounters with adults were usually one-on-one, with sneak attacks being the norm. It wasn't that Jesse lacked martial ethics; Little Asia's food was truly poor. While Noble was described as skinny and short, Jesse was only relatively well-prepared. Compared to a sturdy adult, the size difference was a natural gift, so he could only manage "so-so." Among his peers, Jesse, not bragging, had even managed to win one-on-eight, but adults were a different story. His skill-based fighting style was inherently best suited for one-on-one situations.

If it was a head-on fight, if there was only one man like this, Jesse would be happy to compete; if this man was armed, Jesse would also give it a try. But if the man was armed with a super x2 weapon, Jesse began to wonder: Can he escape?

That's probably...very difficult.

As expected, five minutes later, Jesse was already trying to protect his head. Thug A was holding him down, while thug B swung a bottle and started smashing. As the two men hurled harsh words at each other, Jesse cried inwardly: Why did I even run to the factory?! My legs are so weak!

After waiting for a long time, the bottle did not come down, but I heard the sound of a heavy object falling to the ground, and then I heard A cursing: "You bitch——"

Jeese looked over and saw that it was Thug B who had fallen. Standing before him was the girl he'd previously reminded him to "go behind." She'd somehow managed to break free from the ropes, and the broken bottle she'd been holding had fallen to the ground, completely shattering. She was frail and pale, gasping for breath, as if she'd collapse at any moment without support.

So you can imagine what just happened. Knowing to sneak attack from behind while the thugs were paying attention to him, well, that was pretty good.

He couldn't help but look at Fighter A, showing an eager attitude.

This time, it's finally one-on-one.
