Chapter 9
The house was eventually engulfed in flames.
"What were you thinking? You had to save those kids."
"If we want to make a big noise, we have to rely on fire. Isn't that the method we decided from the beginning? But if we use fire, those children will definitely not survive," said Noble.
If there was a fire, Doubt would be too busy trying to escape himself to care about the lives of the children.
Jesse smacked his lips. He didn't have the time to be charitable to children. After all, there were people who pitied them, whereas no one had sympathized with him as a child. However, he couldn't really burn all those children to death. So, for the time being, he couldn't blame Noble for that. But if he expressed any affirmation or praise for Noble, his slightly aching face definitely didn't indicate agreement. Fights are always physical, no easy answers.
Noble stood there watching the fire burn, looking thoughtful. Jesse asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"Playing with fire can cause bedwetting. I'm a little worried."
"..." Jesse really didn't understand what Noble was thinking. How could Noble take such a child-like lie so seriously? Sometimes he really wondered if this guy was playing a trick on him. "Why are you so excited? Let's go!"
Noble was dragged away, still mumbling under his breath, and Jesse couldn't hear clearly: "What are you saying? I can't hear you!"
Noble could only raise his voice: "I said! I'm not enjoying it!"
Jesse didn't bother to argue with him. He rolled his eyes and just dragged the guy along. Halfway through, he thought, "Should we go to Bernie's store?"
He recalled the way Noble had dragged Doubt's men and beaten and tortured them. "Or... do you want to go home first?"
"...Let's go home first."
Go back and deal with the people first.

For was still at home. He hadn't gone out since Noble told him to be careful these few days.
Chi was right next to him, and when he saw Noble he greeted him cheerfully.
This kid is really hard to tell, Jesse thought. When Noble pinned the Doubt man down and punched him in the stomach, he confessed everything. He was about 16 years old, with freckles on his face, and about 1.7 meters tall. This was very consistent.
Noble asked, "Why did you tip off Doubt?"
Chi Ye: "Huh? What?"
"Are you still pretending?" Noble looked at him coldly.
"I don't understand..."
There's no point, Noble thought. Asking him why was pointless. Betrayal was betrayal. Trying to understand these people only led to self-questioning and internal exhaustion.
So he stopped arguing and just said, "Go away. Take care of yourself. If you try to use those little tricks on us again, I will definitely kill you."
Chi Ye's expression finally changed. He could hardly believe it: "You want to drive me away——?"
"Yes," Noble said.
His tone was so firm that Chi knew there was no chance for excuses. He finally laid his cards on the table: "Why? Just because of those parasites? I've done much more for you than they have! I'm just removing a burden from you!"
Now, he is no longer the boy who could only smile shyly when teased by his companions.
I should have known this. But... when did it go wrong? Why do you have such thoughts?
...Maybe I should have paid more attention to you. Maybe that would have prevented you from becoming such a terrible person. Children need to be educated. There are very few born bad guys, even in Little Asia.
Stop, stop, I repeat, do not take the blame on yourself. I am not a saint or a god, I am just an ordinary person, I can't save everyone.
So Noble shook his head: "You have done more than them, but it doesn't matter to me. I took you in, but I don't care about your so-called return. You don't need to label the dirty things you do as good for me. Family will never be a burden. And you shouldn't touch Xiaohua."
He issued an ultimatum: "I'm telling you to get out of here, not to argue with you. If you persist, I can beat you half to death before sending you away. You know I'm a man of my words. You decide for yourself."
His words were clear and his tone was cold. Completely different from the impression he had left on Jesse before, he looked at Noble with near amazement. The shadows by the window swayed slightly.
"You'll regret this," Chi Ye said. He finally left.
Jesse said, "He's right—you should have killed him. He's a nuisance. You're really going to regret it one day. You're too soft-hearted."
Noble sank into the sofa and closed his eyes: "I'm tired. I don't like this." The ruthless guy just now became fragile in an instant.
"They've been together for a few years," For said. "Chiye...has always been a good kid. He idolizes Noble. So, it seems he was the one who tipped off Doubt?" From Noble's earlier hints, he knew someone in the family might be in trouble. But he didn't see any of the children as "traitors."
"right."
Jesse walked over to the sofa and squatted down to look at his face. "You're a weak guy. You're afraid of killing people."
"Yes, I don't like dead people. I am always afraid of death."
Jesse sighed, "I'm going out for a bit."
/
"You must be kind and protect the weak."
Dad said so, and he did it, but he died because of it.
I did the same, but Xiaohua almost left me because of it.
Admit it, you wanted to kill Chi Ye, but you didn't dare to kill Chi Ye, and you tacitly let Jesse deal with Chi Ye.
I know I am a complete hypocrite and a coward.
/
Noble is a good person, Chi Ye thought, but his badness lies in the fact that he is a good person.
Chi had also met Noble when he was 16, a few years earlier. But before that, he had never seen such a formidable young man. This boy, a few years younger than him, seemed capable of anything. Otherwise, he was calm and reserved, only smiling briefly at a few children.
He knew that as Noble grew older, he would become a powerful being that none of them could even dream of. Just the thought of it filled him with excitement. However, as long as Xiaohua and her group of incompetents were around, Noble would always be limited. See, now, when Noble took action, he always had to consider "the children at home."
If Noble is given a bigger stage——
Noble is a good man, but Little Asia doesn't tolerate good people. If Noble can't do it, he can do it.
But...now Noble wanted to kick him out.
How could this happen? He's done so much for Noble!
Noble... Noble! One day you'll realize I'm right—
"Brother Chiye?"
He heard someone shouting this, he turned his head and couldn't help laughing in surprise -
Yes, she didn't know she was being driven away. Isn't this a godsend?
She is Noble's biggest trouble. Noble, look, even if you want to drive me away, I am still doing this for your own good...
He smiled and called her, "Xiaohua."
/
Jesse came back, his expression not quite right. Noble asked, "What's wrong?"
"He's dead."
How could someone do this here? And what about Xiaohua? Is she safe?
Noble sat up, and in an instant he was back to being the strong guy he once was. He asked For, "Where's Xiaohua?"
"Don't," Jesse stopped For who was about to speak: "I met Xiaohua, she...she is safe."
They exchanged a glance, and Jesse was sure Noble understood what he meant, but Noble simply sighed. "...Let's go, it's time to meet Bernie. I bet he's been waiting a long time."
