Just as the nurse was about to speak, the image of the girl who brought Lu Yanting over last night flashed into her mind.
The nurse's gossipy nature was immediately ignited, and she couldn't help but look the woman in front of her up and down.
The woman was very beautiful, with exquisite makeup. Her coat was clearly a designer piece and quite expensive. The elegant demeanor she exuded was even more eye-catching. She radiated wealth from head to toe.
The girl who brought Lu Yanting here last night, although she had a pretty face, was dressed very plainly, and looked like a girl from an ordinary family.
The fact that the girl brought that man over in the middle of the night suggests that their relationship was definitely not ordinary.
And now, who is this woman in front of me?
Could it be that the man cheated on his girlfriend with a rich woman?
The moment this thought popped into her head, the nurse felt as if she had discovered some incredible, earth-shattering secret. She quickly raised her hand to cover her mouth, afraid that she might accidentally cry out.
"What's wrong? I'm just asking who brought him here last night. Is it that hard to answer?"
Xu Jingyan crossed her arms, frowned slightly, and spoke with a hint of impatience.
"Um..." The nurse was still struggling with whether or not to tell her the truth when she suddenly heard a woman's voice behind her.
"Sister Jingyan!"
The nurse felt the voice was somewhat familiar. She turned her head and saw Fang Weiwei walking towards her with light steps.
"Weiwei." Xu Jingyan nodded slightly to her.
"What happened?" Fang Weiwei asked, glancing at the nurse in front of her who looked somewhat strange.
Xu Jingyan raised her hand and gently smoothed the hair behind her ear with elegant manners, then slowly and deliberately told the story of Lu Yanting's illness and hospitalization.
Fang Weiwei had met Lu Yanting once and was deeply impressed by him. That man not only had an outstanding appearance, but also wealth that ordinary people could never attain.
Although it was only a brief encounter, it left an indelible mark, making it unforgettable for a lifetime.
As the daughter of the Xu family, Xu Jingyan and Lu Yanting were childhood sweethearts and grew up together. When the two stood together, they were a match made in heaven in the eyes of others.
Whether considering their emotional bond or the alignment of their business interests, it is highly likely that the two will eventually walk down the aisle together.
Although Fang Weiwei had secretly longed for Lu Yanting, once she actually stood in front of Xu Jingyan, she felt that she was still a bit lacking.
She knew in her heart that Xu Jingyan was outstanding in both her family background and her inner cultivation and temperament.
Fang Weiwei sighed inwardly, as if she had made a decision: if her rival in love was Xu Jingyan, then she would admit defeat.
"When Sister Jingyan asks you a question, just answer it directly. What's with all this stammering? Is there something you can't say?"
Fang Weiwei looked at the nurse, her brows furrowed slightly, her voice carrying an undeniable air of authority.
The nurse didn't know Xu Jingyan, but she couldn't possibly not know Dean Fang's daughter, Fang Weiwei. Since the dean's daughter had spoken up, the nurse gritted her teeth and had no choice but to tell her everything that had happened last night.
"A girl brought him here? What does she look like?" Xu Jingyan asked impatiently, already feeling a sense of unease.
"She...is very pretty, with big eyes and thick, black hair..." The nurse tried hard to recall and describe Qiu Mang's appearance as meticulously as possible.
"Oh dear, what are you talking about? Who knows what it looks like? Forget it, we'll check the surveillance footage ourselves!"
Fang Weiwei interrupted her impatiently, and while speaking, she took Xu Jingyan's arm and walked towards the monitoring room.
In the monitoring room, the staff made way for each other, and the atmosphere was so heavy it seemed like water could be squeezed out of it.
Xu Jingyan stared intently at the screen. For the first few minutes, the screen was deathly silent: an empty corridor, still tables and chairs, a dozing nurse—time seemed to have stood still.
Suddenly, two figures appeared without warning. Xu Jingyan's body stiffened slightly, then she narrowed her eyes, her gaze sharp as if she could see through the screen to the two people.
At one o'clock in the morning, Lu Yanting and Qiu Mang appeared alone in the hospital lobby. This scene hit Xu Jingyan's heart like a heavy hammer.
As the image zooms in further, the details of Qiu Mang become clearer—she is wearing an apricot-colored knitted cardigan, but underneath she is wearing a set of pajamas that are clearly blue and white stripes, with the hem slightly rolled up.
In the middle of the night, a girl rushed over in her pajamas. What could be the reason? It was obvious that the two of them were together.
Xu Jingyan's gaze fell on Qiu Mang's hand supporting Lu Yanting. In that instant, she felt her head buzz, her face turned ashen, and her hands clenched into fists uncontrollably.
Fang Weiwei sat on a chair to the side, legs crossed, casually fiddling with her newly done nails. "Sister Jingyan, did you recognize her?"
"Hmm." Xu Jingyan squeezed out a single word through gritted teeth, nodded slightly, and then, as if she had lost her soul, mechanically turned and walked out of the monitoring room.
"Sister Jingyan!" Fang Weiwei saw this and quickly chased after her.
"I'm fine. I want to be alone for a while. You go ahead and do your work!" Xu Jingyan gave a wry smile and patted Fang Weiwei's shoulder.
Fang Weiwei was still a little worried. "Jingyan, are you really okay? If you need any help, you must let me know!"
Xu Jingyan walked into the corridor, leaned on the railing with both hands, and whispered, "It's okay, you can go now!"
Fang Weiwei thought about it and decided to give her some space.
Xu Jingyan tried her best to calm her inner turmoil, slowly reached out and took out her phone from her exquisite handbag.
She gently stroked the phone case with her slender fingers for a while, then took a deep breath, as if she had made a great decision, before finally pressing a familiar number and dialing it.
A moment later, a gentle and kind middle-aged woman's voice came from the other end of the phone, "Jingyan, why are you calling your aunt so early in the morning? Is there something you need?"
Xu Jingyan took a deep breath, tried to force a smile, and even though the person on the other end of the phone couldn't see it, she still habitually made her voice sound cheerful.
"Auntie, I came to the hospital for a check-up today and ran into Yanting here."
"Yan Ting?" Lu's mother paused noticeably, her tone full of surprise.
Xu Jingyan gave a wry smile and said softly, "Yes, Auntie. Yan Kai told me that Yan Ting is allergic to mangoes. I was wondering if it's because we recently changed our maid and the new one isn't aware that Yan Ting is allergic to mangoes?"
