"Okay, Aunt Wu, you go ahead! I'll go call those two little ones out, and then we'll head over." Lu Nian waved to Aunt Wu.
In the living room, Lu Yanting sat on the sofa, drinking the tea brought by the maid, glancing at the two people in the living room, his face expressionless.
"Yanting, I've been calling you lately to ask you to come home for dinner, but you haven't. Is something wrong?" Lu's mother asked with concern.
Lu Yanting put down his teacup and said in a calm tone, "There are many projects at the company, so I'm a bit busy."
“No matter how busy you are, you have to come home for dinner. No matter how busy you are at work, nothing is more important than your health, don’t you agree?” Mrs. Lu continued.
"Isn't he back now?" Lu Yanting frowned, his expression cold.
Lu's mother smiled awkwardly. Her son could be quite intimidating when he was cold. However, she remembered that she was the mother and it was quite embarrassing to be frightened by her son's aura. The key point was that Xu Jingyan was sitting next to her. How could she lose face in front of outsiders?
Thinking of this, Lu's mother straightened her back slightly, adopting a motherly demeanor. "Next time, you can't stay away from home for half a month, understand?"
Lu Yanting didn't notice her little gestures. He just thought that his sister and niece had returned to the country, and he should indeed take some time to spend with his niece. So he nodded and said, "I will."
Xu Jingyan sat down next to Lu Yanting and smiled. "Yanting, Auntie is right. You should eat well. But if you think the old house is too far from the company, you can tell me what you want to eat next time and I'll cook it for you. Anyway, I live right across from you, so it's very convenient."
Lu Yanting looked at Xu Jingyan with a rather earnest tone, "Jingyan, you're not feeling well, don't do these things... Also, you're weak, don't live alone outside, go back to your own home, otherwise your parents will worry."
Upon hearing this, he was pushing her away. Xu Jingyan looked at him with reddened eyes, "Do you really have to send me away?"
Lu Yanting frowned and said, "Sometimes I'm so busy with work that I sleep at the company and can't take care of you at all. It's not safe for a girl like you to live alone outside."
Xu Jingyan clenched her fists at her sides, a surge of resentment welling up inside her.
Living at the company? Xu Jingyan didn't believe it. She clearly saw him with Qiu Mang last time, and even saw the two of them go to the hospital in the middle of the night.
Seeing that the atmosphere was a bit off, Lu's mother quickly peeled an orange and stuffed it into Xu Jingyan's hand, "Here, Jingyan, have something to eat. Yanting is definitely concerned about you, don't overthink it."
Two little girls were brought out of the small house, and both of them looked back reluctantly.
"Mommy, we were just playing with the little rabbit, why did you bring us out so quickly! We haven't had enough fun yet!" Lu Yangyang frowned, looking displeased.
"Hurry up, your uncle is back, go find him and play!" Lu Nian said.
Upon hearing that Lu Yanting had returned, Lu Yangyang's pouting lips immediately relaxed, and her eyes lit up. "Great! Uncle's back!"
After saying that, she didn't forget to brag to Qiu Li, "Qiu Li, my uncle is back. I'll take you to meet him. He's so handsome, the most handsome man in the world!"
Qiu Li scoffed, "I don't believe it. I know an even more handsome older brother, more handsome than the male celebrities on TV. He's the most handsome man ever!"
“My uncle is handsome!” Lu Yangyang said with a look of dissatisfaction.
Qiu Li retorted, "Big brother is handsome!"
"Uncle is handsome..."
"Big brother is handsome..."
"Uncle is handsome..."
"Big brother is handsome..."
The two children, who had been getting along peacefully just moments before, were now chattering and making noise like two little birds.
However, when they saw Lu Yanting, one called him "uncle" and the other "big brother," they realized they were talking about the same person.
The two children smiled at each other, knowing that their judgment was definitely correct.
Lu Yanting looked at the two little girls who walked in, and was somewhat surprised when he saw Xiao Qiuli.
He looked towards the doorway and, sure enough, saw Qiu Mang walking in behind Lu Nian. Lu Nian and Qiu Mang were chatting happily. He wondered what funny thing Lu Nian had said, because Qiu Mang covered her mouth and chuckled softly. The girl's face looked exceptionally soft and beautiful in the afterglow of the sunset.
Qiu Mang walked in and saw Lu Yanting. The smile on her face gradually faded.
When their eyes met, Qiu Mang looked away somewhat awkwardly.
Lu Yanting, however, stared intently at her, as if trying to bore a hole through her.
"Uncle, you haven't been back for so many days! Do you miss Yangyang?" Lu Yangyang ran over and hugged Lu Yanting's leg, acting coquettishly.
Lu Yanting snapped out of his daze and patted the top of her head. "Of course, so, so I came back to see you today, didn't I?"
"Alright, Aunt Wu, let's eat now that everyone's here!" Mrs. Lu said to Aunt Wu.
Wu Ma replied "Yes," and then turned and went into the kitchen.
At the long dining table, Lu's mother and Lu Nian sat facing each other, with Lu Nian's daughter Lu Yangyang sitting next to her.
Lu's mother glanced at the seat next to her and beckoned to Xu Jingyan to sit down beside her.
Qiu Li wanted to sit with Lu Yangyang, who was about the same age as her, so Qiu Mang and Qiu Li sat next to Lu Nian.
Because the two children's seats were small, they didn't take up much space. Qiu Mang looked up and saw Lu Yanting sitting opposite her.
The servants served the dishes, and everyone began to eat.
Looking at Qiu Li across from her, Lu's mother said lovingly, "Little Qiu Li, eat more. You haven't eaten such good food at home before, have you? You should eat more of these abalone and sea cucumbers."
Lu Nian glanced at her and scolded, "Mom, how can you talk like that!"
Lu's mother meant well. Although she didn't like Qiu Mang, she didn't have any ill intentions towards the younger Qiu Li, since she wanted her granddaughter to play with her.
As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized she had misspoke, but as an elder, she didn't want to admit her mistake, so she forced herself to say, "Oh, anyway, what I meant was, eat more! Don't be shy!"
Xu Jingyan secretly glanced at Lu Yanting beside her and found him expressionlessly picking up a piece of beef, as if he hadn't noticed anything that had just happened.
Little Qiu Li smiled, her eyes crinkling, "I know, Grandma Lu, I know you're treating me like a guest so I can eat more!"
Lu's mother then glanced at her daughter and said, "Yes, that's exactly what I meant, and Qiu Li understood."
Before long, Aunt Wu brought up a plate of shrimp, and Lu Nian put on gloves and began to peel shrimp for Lu Yangyang.
Qiu Li pointed to the plate of shrimp and said, "Sister, I want to eat shrimp too!"
Upon seeing this, Lu Nian immediately handed a pair of gloves to Qiu Mang.
Lu's mother glanced at her son, then at Xu Jingyan sitting beside her, and coughed lightly, "Yanting, why don't you peel some shrimp for Jingyan too? She's a guest, and she's had her nails done, so it's inconvenient for her."
