Chapter 107 Interrogation
Si Yuan stared at the dazzling red filling the room, and finally couldn't help but sigh, reaching out to tug at the silk wrapped around the stair railing.
"Or you should leave it to me. If we keep doing this, the neighbors will think there's going to be a temple fair here tomorrow."
Jiang Wang was amused.
He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, rested his chin on the top of her head and laughed, his warm breath brushing against her earlobe: "Wow, you're being too hurtful!"
Before Si Yuan could refute her, she used her wrist to pull him towards the bedroom.
"But let's not rush the soft furnishings. Let's test the bed first to see if it works well—I specifically chose a thick mattress."
Before Si Yuan could speak, she was instantly swallowed up by the softness behind the door.
——
The Song family.
Song Yanzheng sat alone in the room where Si Yuan used to live.
Even without the lights on, he could still see everything clearly.
The room is exactly the same as before Si Yuan left; nothing has changed.
Traces of Si Yuan still remain in the room.
On the desk was a sketchbook she hadn't taken with her. On the title page were some sketches she had drawn when she first decided to study design, which she had shown to him immediately.
Song Yan ran his fingertips along the edge of the picture book. The pencil marks on the pages had long since faded, but he could still recall the way Si Yuan rushed in with the book in her hand, her eyes shining brightly.
However, it seemed like she hadn't smiled at herself in a long time.
Song Yan only realized today that there were so many days in between when she wrote those diaries and when she left, days in which he was not involved.
Diaries and sketchbooks are alike; they can be worn out.
"Ayan, come out and eat. You haven't eaten all day."
Yu Qingfang's voice came through the door, tinged with a cautious probing.
Song Yan did not respond, as if he had not heard.
Yu Qingfang never expected it to be related to Si Yuan.
She thought it was Song Yan who was worried about Lin Shuangyu.
After all, the two had been dating for more than two years and were finally getting closer to marriage.
The footsteps outside the door paused for a moment, then quietly left, accompanied by a sigh.
Song Yan closed his eyes, a single sentence repeating in his mind.
Those who can't get married, they definitely can't get married.
Si Yuan and Jiang Wang will definitely not get married.
He gripped the sketchbook tightly, his knuckles turning white, as if he were challenging someone, waiting to see that day come.
So he waited to see the day Jiang Wang would reject her.
——
Just as Jiang Wang had coaxed Si Yuan to sleep, his phone vibrated on the bedside table.
He glanced at the screen, then tiptoed to the living room to answer it.
"Jiang Wang! What's wrong with you? Didn't you see all that nonsense online?" Jiang's mother's voice was filled with anger. "Those people came to your wife and made a scene, didn't you know to protect her? Those gossipy people, just pack them up and throw them far away!"
Jiang Wang leaned back on the sofa, an unlit cigarette between his fingers, his gaze deep and somber.
"Mom, it's all taken care of. I won't let her suffer like this again."
"What's the point of fixing it? What if someone else is so inconsiderate next time?"
There won't be a next time.
Jiang Wang looked up at the direction of the bedroom, his eyes filled with warmth. "Don't worry, we'll go home for the New Year in a while, and then we'll bring her to wish you a Happy New Year."
There was a pause on the other end of the phone, then the tone softened: "Okay, come back soon. Be good to Si Yuan, don't let her suffer."
"Okay, Mom."
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Wang stubbed out his cigarette.
He went back to the bedroom and bent down to tuck the blanket around Si Yuan.
Si Yuan was fast asleep, her eyelashes fluttering slightly.
Jiang Wang lowered his head and kissed her forehead, whispering, "Don't worry, I'll take care of you from now on."
He smiled and said, "None of those you hate can escape it."
——
The incandescent lights in the police station were so bright they made people dizzy.
Lin Shuangyu sat in the chair, his fingers still unconsciously twisting the hem of his clothes, his face full of vigilance and stubbornness.
Her hair was still messy, and she had wounds on her face.
She never imagined she would end up like this.
So much so that it still felt unreal, and I wasn't even afraid.
The police pushed a stack of documents in front of her. On top of the stack were medical reports and photos of the wounds, with the hospital's red seal printed on the corners.
"Lin Shuangyu, this is Si Yuan's medical examination record from the hospital back then. Do you admit that you physically harmed her before?"
Lin Shuangyu's eyes narrowed sharply, and his fingertips stopped.
She stared at the description of the injuries in the report, her nails almost digging into her palms, and muttered a curse under her breath.
"This woman... I'm truly impressed that she had such a trick up her sleeve back then..."
“We also retrieved surveillance footage from the area near the school at the time,” the police officer said calmly. “The video clearly shows that you bullied others, along with testimonies from other participants. Now that the evidence is conclusive, are you still going to try to deny it?”
Lin Shuangyu bit her lip, her face turning pale and then flushed.
She never imagined that Si Yuan would have kept all of these back then.
I thought it was all in the past and that Si Yuan couldn't do anything about it, so why did it all come up again?
Now it has become evidence to condemn her.
She clenched her fists, her voice trembling but still stubborn: "I just argued with her a few times and pushed her a little, how did that become physical assault? Is it really that serious?"
Whether it's serious or not, the law will decide.
The police officer put away the documents and said in a serious tone, "What you need to do now is to truthfully confess the situation and try to get a lighter sentence."
Lin Shuangyu raised an eyebrow: "I have nothing to say. I need to wait for my lawyer."
The police reminded her: "First, you must tell the truth whether you have a lawyer or not. Second, no one is currently hiring a lawyer for you."
Lin Shuangyu's face turned pale instantly, as if all his strength had been drained away, and he slumped back in his chair.
She looked up abruptly, her voice rising in panic: "Impossible! Where's Song Yan? He'll help me! Call him and tell him to come!"
The police officer shook his head expressionlessly: "We contacted Song Yan, and he said it has nothing to do with you and he won't get involved in your affairs."
"He's lying!" Lin Shuangyu slammed his fist on the table and stood up, his eyes filled with malice. "He tacitly approved of me bullying Si Yuan!"
