Chapter 21 Song Yan still keeps a diary
A few days later, Lin Shuangyu was somewhat surprised to hear that Song Yan was going to hold a birthday banquet for Si Yuan.
Her tone was full of curiosity: "Ayan, why did you suddenly decide to throw a birthday party for Xiaoyuan? I've never seen you put in this much effort before."
Previously, Song Yan's feelings for this younger sister were always superficial.
Even on Si Yuan's birthday, he would only buy her some perfunctory but expensive gifts.
Song Yan looked down at the banquet schedule on his phone and casually replied, "When Xiao Yuan's biological parents were still alive, they would hold a banquet for her every year. She hasn't had a proper birthday celebration in the past few years while she's away from home, so this is her first birthday back, and we should make her happy."
He didn't notice the fleeting, strange look in Lin Shuangyu's eyes.
“I see,” Lin Shuangyu nodded with a smile, but his fingers tightened subtly. “You’ve thought of everything.”
She uttered words of agreement, but her eyes turned cold without her saying a word.
Unexpectedly, Si Yuan's years of living under someone else's roof were of no use.
After five years abroad, she returned and Song Yan remembered her past habits and put so much effort into her.
She suppressed the surge of jealousy welling up inside her.
Looking up again, her face regained its bright and cheerful expression, and she offered, "Do you want me to help you with the preparations? I can help with the venue setup or the gifts."
Upon hearing this, Song Yan's brows relaxed a little, and he felt somewhat gratified.
"Okay, I was just wondering what girls like. You're so thoughtful, I feel at ease leaving things with you." He patted Lin Shuangyu's hair, and was about to say something more when his phone suddenly rang.
It was a call from Song Yan's special assistant.
It looks like business.
"I have to go back to the company to take care of some things," Song Yan glanced at the time, got up and walked out, while instructing, "By the way, there are a few old photo albums in the second drawer of the study. They are all family photos of the Song family. Remember to put them out when you set up the venue. She should be happy to see them."
After saying that, he picked up his coat and went out the door.
Lin Shuangyu nodded: "Don't worry, leave it all to me!"
After seeing Song Yan off, the smile on Lin Shuangyu's face instantly faded.
She wanted to help, but only to prevent Song Yan from spending too much time on Si Yuan's matter.
Lin Shuangyu turned and walked towards the study, impatiently pulling open the second drawer.
There is indeed a photo album.
The first picture you see when you open the book is of Si Yuan as a child.
She must have just arrived at the Song family then, and she looked aggrieved and somewhat sad.
Song Yan had her wrap her arms around his, trying his best to make her happy.
Lin Shuangyu raised an eyebrow, somewhat disdainfully: "Hmph, you're really putting on a pitiful act."
Lin Shuangyu chuckled and flipped the photo over.
Lin Shuangyu randomly picked a few photos, closed the album, but his hand slipped and he dropped the album on the ground.
Lin Shuangyu was speechless. Sure enough, everything related to Si Yuan was so unlucky.
She reluctantly bent down to pick it up.
A quick glance revealed a hidden compartment under Song Yan's desk.
A corner of yellowed kraft paper peeked out from the crack in the hidden compartment.
Lin Shuangyu felt a pang in his heart.
As if possessed, she opened the hidden compartment and took out the package.
The kraft paper was wrapped very tightly.
Upon opening it, a blue-covered diary and a stack of photos fell out.
In the photo, Si Yuan has grown into a young woman, standing side by side with Song Yan under the cherry blossom tree in the Song family courtyard, their shadows very close together.
And that's not all.
There are also various photos of Song Yan taken from Si Yuan's perspective.
Doing homework with her, taking her to the amusement park, feeding kittens with her...
Lin Shuangyu, with a cold face, opened the diary again.
The handwriting in the diary was neat and beautiful, but every page was filled with thoughts of Song Yan.
My brother bought me a strawberry cake today; he seems to know I like sweets.
My brother stayed up late for tutoring tonight, so I made him some soup. He patted my head and said thank you.
My brother prepared a birthday present for me; I thought I would never receive a gift from my family again.
Lin Shuangyu's face instantly turned as cold as ice, his fingers gripping the diary so tightly that the pages were crumpled.
What angered Lin Shuangyu even more than Si Yuan's ambiguous words was that Song Yan had secretly hidden this diary in the study.
How could he keep these?
Lin Shuangyu's jealousy and unease suddenly burst forth.
"Si Yuan, it seems you still haven't learned your lesson."
A moment later, she suddenly curled her lips into a sinister smile: "Back in high school, I could make you look down on everyone at school. Now, I can too."
——
I got off work early today.
Si Yuan went downstairs, and the evening breeze blew in her face, instantly dispelling some of her fatigue.
Just as she was about to go to the garage, someone called out to her from behind.
Si Yuan turned back; it was Chen Mo.
Compared to his flippant attitude last time, Chen Mo's demeanor was noticeably more humble this time, probably because he had inquired about her family background from elsewhere.
He ran over and asked solicitously, "Siyuan, are you free this weekend? I'd like to invite you to dinner as an apology for... my previous offenses."
Si Yuan adjusted her bag strap and politely shook her head: "Sorry, I already have plans for the weekend."
"What about other times?" Chen Mo immediately asked, taking a step forward, almost blocking her way. "My schedule is flexible, you can decide."
Si Yuan frowned slightly, and patiently found a more direct reason: "No need, Chen Mo, I already have someone I like."
These words were like a bucket of cold water poured on him. Chen Mo's smile froze, and he frowned, his tone filled with disbelief and inquiry: "You just returned to the country not long ago, right? How could you be back so quickly... Are you someone from our company?"
His questioning made Si Yuan a little impatient, but Chen Mo was, after all, her mentor when she first joined the company, so she maintained a calm demeanor.
"Excuse me, I can't go into details about personal matters. I suddenly have some work to do and need to go back to work overtime, so please excuse me."
"Overtime?" Chen Mo refused to back down, his tone suddenly rising as he spoke up righteously, "Didn't you submit all your drafts from last week? Who assigned you more work? I'm going to talk to my supervisor. How can they exploit people like this!"
Si Yuan quickly stopped him, thinking the man was silly: "Really, it's not necessary. It wasn't arranged by the supervisor."
"Who is that?" Chen Mo persisted, his eyes filled with stubbornness and defiance, determined to stand up for Si Yuan.
"No matter who it is, they can't exploit people like this!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a deep, cold voice suddenly came from behind him on the cold wind.
"It's me, do you have a problem with that?"
