Chapter 151 Song Yan did it on purpose
"Si Yuan".
Song Yan suddenly spoke.
"I'm much better now, you can go."
He smiled, trying to appear less pained, and desperately wanted her to leave.
Make them all leave.
Otherwise, with them so happy, him lying here half-dead seems more like self-torture.
Song Yan forced a smile, but no matter how he smiled, his eyes were filled with a hazy sense of embarrassment.
It's ridiculous. Everything I've done is ridiculous. They must all think I'm ridiculous too.
She was about to get married and live a happy life; but he was like a clown, a laughing stock in their eyes. In the face of her happiness, everything he did was just a superfluous farce.
Therefore, Song Yan wanted them all to leave.
Stop admiring how pathetic he is.
Si Yuan could tell that something was wrong with him.
I saw his fingers gripping the bed sheet tightly.
But since he said that, she had no reason to stay.
She stood up silently, her voice calm: "Then you should rest well. Call the nurse if you need anything."
"Um."
Jiang Wang didn't say anything more throughout, but a knowing smile appeared in his eyes.
He had expected Song Yan to do this.
But that's exactly what he wanted.
A clear distinction should exist between them; that's the proper distance between them.
If Song Yan were sensible, he should act like he's dead and stop causing trouble.
The door closed, and the ward returned to silence.
Song Yancai slowly closed his eyes.
The smile on his lips vanished instantly, the wound on his chest and the dull pain in his heart intertwined, almost swallowing him whole.
He curled up on the hospital bed, like something abandoned, burying his face in the pillow, his breath painful even from his ribs.
Soon, the ward door was pushed open again.
Song Guotao appeared at the door.
Seeing the figure curled up on the hospital bed, Song Guotao's anxiety instantly turned into anger, and he accused, "Song Yan! Look at the state you are in now, what are you doing? You don't value your own life. If something really happens, what are your mother and I going to do?"
Song Yan didn't look up; his face remained buried in the pillow, only letting out a low, hoarse, and tired laugh.
He slowly turned to the side and said slowly, "Yes, I am crazy."
Song Guotao felt a tightness in his chest from those words, his hand trembling as he pointed at him. "Do you know what you're saying? You've ruined yourself like this to save Si Yuan, is it worth it?"
A faint smile appeared on Song Yan's lips, and he nodded gently.
"It's worth it."
He readily admitted, "I also know that Lin Shuangyu's mother was involved in a hit-and-run."
Song Guotao's eyes widened suddenly, his angry expression freezing instantly, replaced by incredulous astonishment: "What did you say?"
"Because it was I who instigated it."
Song Yan looked at his father, his voice soft but clear, "Because I fueled the flames, and I protected her."
"You're insane! You're absolutely insane!"
Song Guotao staggered back a step, his voice filled with heartache and indignation, "What were you trying to achieve by doing this? What were you risking your life for?"
Song Yan's gaze slowly shifted to the window. After a few seconds of silence, he murmured as if in a dream, "What's the point?"
He chuckled self-deprecatingly, a glistening moisture in his eyes: "I'm drawn to her because she's willing to soften her heart for me, and I'm drawn to her because she'll stay with me, even if it's just for these two days."
These past two days have been so precious.
She listened to him speak, called him brother, ate with him, and watched him drink water...
These were all things that used to be insignificant, but Song Yan found them incredibly precious, as if all the injuries on his body no longer hurt.
If he had another chance, he would even like to hurt her more badly, so that he might be lucky enough to make her shed a few tears for him.
Song Guotao looked at the numbness and calmness in his son's eyes, a sight he had never seen before.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but couldn't utter a word; his eyes were filled with helplessness and heartache.
——
Si Yuan got into the car and saw Jiang Wang looking at her with a probing gaze.
She asked, puzzled, "Why are you looking at me?"
Jiang Wang always spoke bluntly, and this time was no exception: "Let's see if you'll soften your heart for him."
Si Yuan smiled and thought he was like a child.
"Why do you think I'm soft-hearted?"
Jiang Wang thought, "Because you used to like him so much, and now he's right in front of you..."
Jiang Wang had liked someone before, and he knew that liking someone was an addiction that wasn't easy to get rid of.
But he didn't want to make it too obvious, so he chuckled as if he didn't care at all: "With his face like that, and looking so sick, it's hard not to feel sorry for him."
But Si Yuan still figured it out.
She sat down next to him and circled one of his fingers around his.
Her eyes were bright, and Jiang Wang's heart softened suddenly.
Si Yuan knew that Jiang Wang was jealous, and had been jealous for several days, but she just kept it to herself.
"President Jiang's jealousy is so obvious, I can almost smell it."
Jiang Wang grabbed her wrist with his other hand, holding her hand in his palm. The force wasn't strong, but it carried a possessiveness that made it impossible for her to break free.
He stared straight ahead, his tone hard, but he couldn't hide the awkwardness in his voice: "Who's jealous? I'm just reminding you that Song Yan is a deep and calculating person, don't be fooled by his pitiful act."
"What are you lying to me about?" Si Yuan raised an eyebrow, teasing him deliberately. "Are you lying to me about staying to take care of him? Or are you lying to me about staying in Haicheng and not going back with you?"
He turned to look at her. "You dare?"
Si Yuan chuckled at his flustered appearance and reached out to pinch his tense jawline: "I wouldn't dare. My career is all in Beijing, I have to go back no matter what... Besides, I haven't even looked at the wedding photos I worked so hard to take yet."
Her fingertips were soft, and wherever they touched, it felt like a small fire had been lit.
Jiang Wang couldn't help but smile.
He didn't say anything, but he held her hand tighter, his fingertips gently stroking the back of her hand.
"Yes, our wedding photos."
The wedding dress she put on for him.
Song Yan doesn't have these things, and he never will.
Jiang Wang kissed Si Yuan.
She didn't dodge; she had never liked doing such ambiguous things in the car before.
Jiang Wang observed her closely to make sure she wouldn't resist, and then deepened his kiss.
He hasn't been feeling much better these past few days.
Especially during the entire night Si Yuan was unconscious, he had no idea how anxious Jiang Wang was.
Jiang Wang didn't say it, but he also shed tears. He had never cried in his life; tears were practically non-existent for him.
But holding Si Yuan, whose fate was uncertain, Jiang Wang's eyes reddened.
Later, Song Yan got into trouble again, and Si Yuan kept circling around Song Yan. Jiang Wang felt so sad and wanted to tell her about his grievances.
Now that the opportunity has finally arrived, Jiang Wang feels it's no longer important.
Si Yuan just likes him, and only him.
Thinking of this, Jiang Wang's grievances vanished.
No matter how much Song Yan pretends, it's useless.
