Chapter 45 Things Are Different

Si Yuan snapped out of her daze and felt a paper bag beside her.

Just as he picked it up, Jiang Wang said, "Yours."

Si Yuan was puzzled. When she opened it, she found a white shirt.

Si Yuan's heart stirred.

"Didn't you say that this was too old-fashioned?"

Jiang Wang raised an eyebrow: "I can rely on my looks."

Si Yuan stared at him without saying a word.

Jiang Wangming knew that the sentence was just an excuse, but he still bought it.

Regarding this one matter, Si Yuan didn't know why, but a heavy yet inexplicable feeling welled up inside her.

The changes she has undergone during this period are unbelievable even to herself.

Lin Shuangyu used her most embarrassing past experiences to make fun of her, and she retorted.

Chen Mo cursed at her a few times, and she immediately slapped him back.

He became arrogant and spoiled.

This doesn't seem like Si Yuan anymore, who grew up living under someone else's roof.

At this moment, she finally understood why: it was because someone always stood up for her.

Jiang assumed she was internally complaining again.

"You've lived abroad for so many years, don't you know that fashion sense depends on looks?"

Si Yuan curled her fingers, then tilted her head back and kissed Jiang Wang.

Now it was Jiang Wang's turn to be stunned.

Si Yuan replied, "It's a reward for you."

But this approach didn't work on Jiang Wang.

"Isn't it a bit much for us to keep kissing like this?"

As soon as he finished speaking, he reached out and supported Si Yuan's lower back, pulled her close, and kissed her.

Si Yuan's back was suddenly pressed against the car window. The cold glass pressed against her shirt, but it couldn't stop the scorching heat coming from in front of her.

Jiang Wang's kiss was deep and urgent, instantly capturing her breath.

Her fingers instinctively gripped the front of his suit jacket, pressed against his collarbone, the heat making her fingertips tingle.

After an unknown amount of time, Jiang Wang finally stepped back half an inch.

He gently brushed his fingertips against her glistening lower lip, his voice slightly hoarse: "That's what a reward should be. That last one felt like a tickle."

Si Yuan's cheeks burned, and she turned her head away, trying to avoid his gaze: "You...you did this too suddenly..."

Jiang Wang frowned and commented, "I'm not used to it yet. There's still not enough kissing."

And then, it started again.

——

This morning, as soon as Si Yuan entered the company, Tina told him that something big had happened.

"Chen Mo has been admitted to the hospital!"

Si Yuan paused for a moment, her hand holding the document still.

She looked up at Tina, and seeing the other's surprised expression that said, "You didn't know?", she quickly composed herself and asked, "Into the hospital? What happened?"

"Who knows!" Tina leaned closer and whispered, "I heard from the administration department that last night when he came out of the mall, a van full of people grabbed him and beat him up. He's still in the hospital now!"

Si Yuan immediately remembered the van from last night.

I even asked Jiang Wang about it back then.

She remained expressionless: "Is it that serious? That's so pitiful."

Tina curled her lips, her tone revealing undisguised schadenfreude. "If you ask me, this is karma! He's always been a gossip. When I first joined the company, he was pursuing me, but when I found out he had a girlfriend, we had a huge fight. Now look what happened! I heard from HR that he's had questionable conduct and will be leaving the company once he's discharged from the hospital."

Tina was still rambling on about Chen Mo's embarrassing past, but Si Yuan wasn't really listening.

She believed that evil people would be punished by evil people.

Yesterday, when he slandered himself, he made solemn vows, but he was not pitiful at all.

Busy until almost noon, Si Yuan's phone suddenly rang.

The word "Mom" on the screen made her pause.

She walked to the tea room and stood up. Song's mother's gentle voice came over: "Xiao Yuan, are you busy?"

"It's okay, Mom, what's wrong?" Si Yuan asked, holding her phone and leaning against the wall.

"I'm being discharged from the hospital, and your brother is back too. Why don't you come home for a family reunion dinner tonight?" Song's mother's tone was much gentler than before, probably because she knew that her daughter was getting married and her attitude had improved.

"Oh, by the way, I'll have the kitchen make your favorite fish fillets."

Si Yuan's heart sank.

Ultimately, the matter of Song's mother being hospitalized was also related to her.

She didn't want things to get too tense because of the debt of gratitude she owed her for raising her.

"Okay, I'll go over after I get off work tonight."

After hanging up the phone, Si Yuan looked out the window, feeling a little unsettled.

She took out her phone and sent Jiang Wang a message: "I'm going to the Song family's for dinner tonight. My mom has been discharged from the hospital, and Song Yan is back too."

——

Si Yuan parked the car in the Song family's underground garage.

There was also a red convertible sports car that I had never seen before next to it.

Is it Lin Shuangyu's?

We arrived quite early.

Si Yuan walked towards the elevator, but with too many things in her hands, pressing the buttons was a bit of a hassle.

A hand appeared and pressed it for her.

Looking up, I saw Song Yan.

He must have just returned from the company; he was impeccably dressed in a black suit, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and his eyes showed some fatigue, but he always exuded a gentle demeanor.

The two of them parted on bad terms last time and haven't seen each other since the hospital incident.

Song Yan naturally took the things from her hands.

"You didn't even greet your brother when you met him?"

Si Yuan lowered her gaze, thinking that Song Yan was really good at whitewashing things.

It wasn't like this before.

In the past, if she really upset him, he would never let it go so easily; he would make her realize her mistake.

If Song Yan took the initiative to break the deadlock, she would be happy for a very long time, feeling that her brother really cared about her.

But now, Si Yuan feels numb.

Hurtful words have been said, and unpleasant speculations have been made. To act as if nothing happened and laugh it off is just... quite unsettling.

Not hearing a reply, Song Yan was clearly taken aback.

The elevator doors slowly closed, revealing a cramped space.

Seeing Si Yuan's downcast eyes and unwillingness to speak, Song Yan tightened his grip on something.

Are you still angry with me?

Si Yuan's eyes remained calm: "I'm not angry, but I don't think it's necessary to bring it up again."

She paused, then gave a slight smile and said, "Isn't it good the way it is now?"

A reasonable distance and sense of propriety between an adopted brother and sister.

"fine?"

Song Yan frowned, a hint of bitterness in his voice, "Now when we meet, you treat me like an enemy, not even willing to call me 'brother.' Is that a good thing?"

The elevator dinged as it arrived at the floor.

Si Yuan was the first to walk out, saying, "Brother, is it okay now?"

The word "brother" has always held a special meaning between Si Yuan and Song Yan.

This connection made them, who had no blood relation, a family, yet also confined them to being only siblings.

As long as Song Yan is addressed as "brother," he can continue to be her closest person without restraint.

If you manage her and spoil her, you'll be connected to her for life.

Now, Si Yuan still calls him brother, but she no longer feels that way.

Things are different now.

But what exactly is different?
