Chapter 239 Grandfather and Grandson Meet
Si Yuan felt she would have been better off not asking at all. Jiang Wang was even more...shameless than when he was eighteen. Back then, at least it was just physical entanglement; now he wanted her to say those mushy, lovey-dovey things to him, even though she knew perfectly well that she couldn't say anything meaningful.
But she couldn't bring herself to truly hate Jiang Wang.
At least seeing him being disliked is a little bit more painful and easier to bear than seeing him like that.
Si Yuan lowered her head, one hand clutching the white hospital bed sheet, and didn't say another word, as if she wanted to tear a hole in the bed with her fingers.
Jiang Wang didn't insist anymore. He tucked her exposed hand back into the blanket and tucked her in, saying, "Just say if you're hungry. The porridge has been kept warm."
Si Yuan nodded and said nothing more.
Jiang Wang glanced at his watch and frowned slightly: "I need to go to the company. I've stationed a lot of people here to guard the place. You can make any requests you have."
When Si Yuan heard that he was leaving, and then realized that she didn't know anyone, she looked up at him, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, "Will it take a long time?"
Jiang Wang's heart softened instantly. He ruffled her hair, which was a bit long: "Half a day at most. When I get back, I'll take you downstairs to get some sun."
Si Yuan said "Oh" and lowered her head again.
Jiang Wang stood up, gave a few more instructions to his assistant behind him, and then turned and left the ward.
Inside the elevator, Jiang Wang's phone rang, and the screen displayed the word "Mother".
He pressed the answer button, his voice flat: "Hmm."
Jiang's mother's voice came through the receiver, filled with obvious worry: "Wangwang, how is Xiaoyuan? Is she feeling better?"
"He's awake. Nothing serious, just hasn't regained his memory yet."
Jiang's mother was clearly taken aback: "Amnesia? How is this like a TV drama? Does she... still remember you now?"
"Her memory stopped at eighteen, so she doesn't remember me much," Jiang Wang said, leaning against the elevator wall. "But she didn't reject me."
Jiang's mother breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good. Wangwang wants to go to the hospital to see her. I haven't seen her for so many years, and I've been thinking about her constantly. Finally, I'm back in Beijing..."
Jiang Wang immediately refused: "Please don't come. She's emotionally unstable right now, and your impulsive nature will frighten her."
"Am I that scary?" Jiang's mother's voice suddenly rose: "I just want to see Xiaoyuan. It's been so many years since we last met. As her mother-in-law, is it not allowed for me to go see my daughter-in-law?"
Jiang Wang rubbed his temples, knowing his mother's temper; she must have already prepared to come, and might even be on her way.
He was silent for a few seconds, then finally compromised: "Okay. But when you get to the hospital, you mustn't say anything out of line, you mustn't get too agitated, and you mustn't... mention her leaving five years ago."
"Don't worry, don't worry! I'll be fine and won't cause you any trouble!" Jiang's mother immediately became very excited. "I'll get ready right away and come over immediately!"
——
In the afternoon, just after Si Yuan finished eating, Jiang Wang returned.
She was leaning against the headboard, engrossed in watching some old dramas she used to love on her tablet.
Hearing the door open, she looked up and her gaze fell on Jiang Wang.
"You're back." Si Yuan felt a little relieved.
Jiang Wang nodded, walked to the bedside, and put away her tablet: "How are you? Is anything bothering you?"
Si Yuan shook her head: "It's alright. Are you done with your company's business?"
"Hmm." Jiang Wang sat down in the chair next to her, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "My mother came to see you today."
Si Yuan was stunned, her eyes filled with confusion: "Your mother?"
In her memory, Jiang Wang was someone high above, unattainable, someone she would part ways with immediately after high school graduation, someone she would never see again. She never imagined that she would have any connection with him, let alone meet his mother.
“She’s been thinking about you a lot.” Jiang Wang spoke slowly and deliberately, afraid of startling her. “Don’t be nervous, she just came to see you.”
Before Si Yuan could recover from the shock, the door to the ward was pushed open.
It was Jiang's mother who came in.
Her eyes instantly welled up with tears as soon as her gaze fell on Si Yuan. She quickly walked to the bedside, took her hand, and choked up, saying, "Xiao Yuan, child, you've suffered so much."
Si Yuan was completely dumbfounded.
Looking at the elegantly dressed woman before her, the worry and heartache in her eyes were genuine; she had never seen such an expression on Yu Qingfang's face before.
She never imagined that she had already met Jiang Wang's mother, and that his mother would care about her so much.
For some reason, she felt a little sad and touched.
Before Si Yuan could speak, the ward door opened again.
Si Xingzhou skipped in, carrying a small schoolbag. His tutor followed behind him, saying helplessly, "Mr. Jiang, the young master insisted on coming to see his mother today, and I couldn't stop him no matter what I did."
Jiang Wang nodded and gestured for her to leave first.
Si Xingzhou saw Si Yuan first and sweetly called out, "Mom!"
Then, his gaze fell on Jiang's mother. Perhaps because he had never seen her before, the little guy frowned slightly, looking at Jiang's mother with a puzzled expression.
Jiang's mother was also stunned for a moment. She looked down at the exquisitely beautiful little boy in front of her, and after realizing what was happening, her voice trembled as she asked, "This...this is my grandson?"
Si Xingzhou tilted his head, looked Jiang's mother up and down, and then gave her a sweet smile: "Are you my beautiful grandma?"
Before Jiang's mother could even cry, she was amused by these words and burst into laughter. She squatted down, tentatively hugged Si Xingzhou, and looked closely at her grandson whom she had never met before.
Then, remembering something, Jiang's mother opened her bag and began rummaging through her belongings: "Grandma came in a hurry this time and didn't bring any gifts. Only this, an antique bracelet passed down to me by your great-grandmother, and this card with several million in it. Here you go!"
As she spoke, she stuffed a jade bracelet and a black card into Si Xingzhou's hand.
Si Yuan stared wide-eyed silently. Although it was a gift for her son, she felt detached at the moment, her mind only filled with shock at the amount of money.
Those bracelets must be worth more than a few million.
Si Xingzhou took a step back, shook his head, and said seriously, "My mother said that I can't just take things from other people."
Jiang's mother was stunned, the bracelet and card in her hand frozen in mid-air.
Si Yuan was stunned for a moment before realizing that the mother he was talking about was herself. After realizing this, she smiled belatedly.
This child has really been taught to be very well-behaved.
Jiang Wang was also left speechless by his mother's antics.
He spoke up at the right moment: "Mom, the child is still young, you should put these things away for now."
Jiang's mother then realized what was happening and smiled somewhat embarrassedly: "Look at me, your mother is still sick, and you haven't officially returned home yet. Then Grandma will go back and prepare some more and better things for my dear grandson later."
