After she had some sleep, Raziah had woken up to Fabia’s suggestion about them taking a walk around the place. The Princess was feeling a little better after Fabia had reassured her countless times that she was gonna be fine and that the illness was just temporary.
Raziah had thought about it for a few minutes, and with Fabia’s persistence, the Princess had agreed granted her curiosity about the place too. They were gonna take a walk around town. Fabia thought it would help distract Raziah from her deep thoughts if she was seeing witches around her. And witches were so different from the Vampire life they were used to.
With Fabia in the middle, she linked hands with the Princess and held Caius with her other hand as they roamed freely around the place. This time Raziah wasn’t in a hurry anymore, and took more time to appreciate whatever she saw. She noticed how pleasant and free everyone was around each other, there was hardly any bad energy throwing them off.
The witches lived almost like humans did, except that they had cast spells on the materials and items around them to move by themselves. For example, the broom was sweeping the floor by itself and there was this cylindrical brush with a handle that was moving by itself, painting the walls that were losing its paint. Life looked so easy for them.
There were kids running around and laughing. Some were trying out some spells around a small corner, and others went on with their activity. As Raziah watched them closely, they looked back at her. She didn’t speak to any of them, but some would approach Fabia sometimes and they would greet each other.
"What do you think? It’s not so bad, right?" Fabia whispered to her, and Raziah agreed with a small nod.
"Oh, oh...look!" Caius exclaimed gingerly with twinkling eyes as he pointed at a man standing not too far from them, "It’s Raina!"
They had just rounded up a corner. Caius had let go of his aunt’s hand and was running toward the male witch who had his arms wide open with a welcoming smile on his face. His lips moved like he was about to say something, and Raziah would have listened but her attention had been snatched up by something else.
As they had rounded up the corner, someone else had been passing in the opposite direction. Raziah would have stepped out of the way, or so she thought she did but her fingers brushed lightly against the woman’s.
An electric shock washed over her body, and she grew incredibly stiff as her eyes turned white completely. Feeling the sudden unease, Fabia swiftly looked at the Princess and held Raziah before she fell.
The process lasted for about five seconds. Raziah could make out the faces she saw in her vision. She saw herself standing somewhere that looked like a secret room and it seems a few people were having a meeting. Vampires and witches were present, and standing in front of them conducting the whole thing was a female witch.
The one she had just touched.
"...Seeress will make the preparations...Full moon... Can’t let him fully awaken...kill him...A Lazarus..."
Raziah couldn’t quite hear them well as the scene was moving so fast, and then it changed. The next place she saw herself was familiar, it was the cave Caius had been kidnapped to. And there he was like it happened before, inbounded to the wall with heavy silver chains.
They were discussing again, "Like a ticking time bomb...What could have triggered it...a descendant of the family..."
The next thing she heard was that tormenting scream that Caius had let out when the moonlight had touched him. The female witch was chanting spells under her breath while standing close to the altar to speed up the process. She had this Maniacal and twisted look in her eyes as if she was enjoying the sound of his screams.
If Raziah remembered correctly, two people had escaped that day. One was the Vampire Malcolm had been fighting, and the second was a witch, a woman.
The scene changed again, and Raziah could feel the presence of something terrifying this time lurking in the shadows. From the little she could see, there were white sheets filled with drawings and paintings scattered all over the floor. The drawings were all well detailed, and the pen used on them resembled nothing like a quill.
All the drawings were ash in color, and kneeling by the corner was the witch. She trembled from head to toe, hands clasped together like she was begging whoever it was for mercy. Sweat dripped from her face, and her whimpering pleas filled the room.
"Protected...Give me more time...Seeress please..."
And Raziah was pulled back to the present. She found herself in Fabia’s arms on the floor. She first glanced at Caius who had stopped midway running to Raina, worried to see her lying there. In an instant, she was back on her feet and grabbed the witch’s arm before the witch could take her next step.
Raziah felt her tremble. It didn’t matter though, because as the witch turned around to see who had stopped her in her tracks, the last two things she saw was an icy cold stare of a woman with Golden short hair, and then a strong fist crashed on her face, bursting up her nose, lips and an eye.
The woman was sent flying, and Raziah stood there shaking heavily with murderous intent flooding from her eyes. Her fist had a bit of blood in it, and her breathing was heavy. The witch had landed on the floor with a small roll and it had caught some attention around.
"Raziah! What are you doing?!" Fabia was flabbergasted. Even though she already knew Raziah would just beat up anyone without a good reason, the words had just left her lips. The place was as peaceful as possible, and Fabia didn’t want to cause trouble while living here but some things are just inevitable.
Not even sparing the doctor a glance, the Princess had stormed toward the witch who was back on her feet. She had gotten close before she saw the small dagger the witch had pulled out from her dress.
"Kathryn!" Someone yelled her name from the witch’s around. The woman didn’t look bothered. She spat out the blood in her mouth and attacked Raziah immediately.
Raziah wouldn’t have known how the woman was able to move so quickly if not for Bell’s explanation the other day about how witches reinforced their physical strengths with spells when taking on a Vampire.
Trust Raziah to have stolen a kitchen knife while she was at Naria.
It’s indeed nice to meet you, ice Princess," Kath said, smiling through the blood.
"Then I should keep greeting your spiteful heart with more punches, how did you like the first one?!" Raziah retorted, noticing the wound was already healing. All signs of warmth had evaporated from her eyes, replaced with that Cold and concentrated hatred for the foe that stood in front of her.
Fabia ran out of words when she saw that her eyes couldn’t keep up with their movements. She was very worried for the pregnant woman who was once again risking her life, and also putting her child in danger. Fabia, like everyone else was backing away from the place before the fight would get to them.
Meanwhile, Raziah knew she wasn’t moving as fast as she could before. Her sickness was really weighing her down, and the witch had managed to cut her on the arm. As soon as she felt the pain from the dagger, she raised a foot and gave Kath one of those dangerous kicks under her chin, whipping the witch’s head up.
Raziah heard something crack with that kick and quickly took that as an opening to smack the dagger away from the woman and quickly back her up against the wall. She choked her with no remorse. Raziah could only remember Kath smiling as she had attempted to kill an innocent child!
"She did say I won’t last against you," Kath smirked through the crushing pain from her lungs. It seems she still had the strength to speak, but that was an intentional part from Raziah because she didn’t want to kill the woman.
At least not before extracting as much information as she could first.
"You’re referring to this seeress, aren’t you?!" Raziah questioned.
Block trickled out of Kath’s lips, "You’re so cold. I feel remorseful for you, but at least you would soon be slaughtered. Your death will bring her peace," Kath cracked out, more blood running down her mouth. Her eyes were red from pain, but the smirk never left her lips.
Raziah was even more annoyed now, "You should have known you wouldn’t stand a chance against me. Why did you still decide to cross paths with me? Did you come after Caius again and happened to run into me? Why fight when you could have just fled away?!" Raziah strengthened her grip on the woman’s neck, and every form of struggle from Kath’s body became useless. Her hands fell to her sides.
Kath’s smirk grew, "What? You think we are up to something again?"
She was only fuelling the princess’s anger.
"We are always close by. We will always be close by. There is no stopping till she has you exactly where she wants you. She will have the last laugh...you have no idea who you’re dealing with..." Kath struggled to speak, her voice coming out low and pained. She didn’t even sound like herself anymore.
"Who is she?!" Raziah demanded, "You’ll tell me who she is, or you’ll suffer more than this! I’m not letting you go!" Raziah yelled at her face but lessened her grip immediately she felt something was out of place.
Kath was already too weak to do a thing and simply slid down the wall when Raziah let go of her. What Raziah was afraid of was the woman dying on her if she kept choking her, but she had to think of another way of restraining her. She couldn’t risk Kath suddenly disappearing, or opening another portal and slipping through it like the last time.
"You’ll always be haunted by the memories..." Kath coughed out more blood, "You’ll die with the guilt...you will perish and suffer..." And then, Kath’s eyes lost its glow and she ceased moving.
