Chapter 179: As Long as...

The King was barely breathing. The creature hadn’t just sucked and torn open his neck with its fangs, it had also sunk its claws deep into the King’s neck and there was so much blood running down from the open wounds.

Not to mention, it had clawed at the king’s chest during its last moments. It was terrifying to see that all that hard armor that King was putting on was nowhere as strong as the creature’s claws, and it had been shredded to pieces with the king’s chest filled with claw marks.

"Father...," Raziah managed out, her tone a silent cry for help.

Malcolm moved forward to check the king’s pulse, and it was very weak. His injuries were too deep and severe. Except if a doctor was here, nothing could be done to help him.

"Where’s Lady Jennet? We need her!" Raziah cried and ran for the door but Savannah grabbed the princess’s hand and dragged her back, "No! What are you doing?! He’s gonna die, can’t you see?!" Raziah cried and fought.

But Savannah was quick to wrap her hand around the princess’s mouth to shut her up, then whispered, "Lady Jennet was one of the few people...to have passed away so soon. I watched her die, my Princess. A dead person wouldn’t be of any help, would they?"

A muffled moan of cry escaped Raziah’s lips, and she still struggled against Savannah.

"I’m so sorry, Raziah," Savannah added in another whisper, "But we need to remain as quiet as possible. I think they’re attracted to the noise we make!"

Raziah looked at her dying father again and cried even harder. She could see him looking back at her, the pain screaming through his bloodshot eyes and so much blood now running down his mouth. She couldn’t even imagine the level of pain he was going through right now... but what really hurt the most was the calm look in his eyes that lay beneath all that pain.

The calm, and warm look.

Raziah squeezed her eyes shut. Her father couldn’t be serious. Why does it feel like he was agreeing with Savannah? No way, she was gonna go out there and look for someone to save him.

A blast that had the place crumbling a bit, rocking the earth’s core and the ground that they stood to their feet had them all falling to the ground. It was so bad that some part of the castle really did crumble to the ground, shaking up the walls again.

Everyone laid on the ground, disoriented for a moment wondering what could have caused such a huge blast that seemed to have come from underground.

Raziah’s eyes widened. Underground??! Oh no, did someone happen to Harlow?!

Savannah moaned in pain as she tried to stand up. Her head was swollen a bit and there was a little blood running down. Seems like she had hit her head on the ground from the fall, "What happened?!" She murmured.

As if things couldn’t get worse than it already were, a hiss came from outside...not too far from their widely burst door.

Everyone froze in fear. Raziah could feel it deep down her bones. Just as they had become quiet, so did the creature and she could feel it, something told her it knew they were there and was gaining closer and closer to the room.

"The Tunnels..." Malcolm said, reminding everyone that there was a way out.

Raziah turned to her father, while Savannah sought to move toward the tunnel. Everyone was happening so fast that there hadn’t been even a second spared for them to actually take the root out of this sudden war and get the hell out of there.

"No, wait...," Malcolm whispered harshly again with a hand held out at Savannah who was almost at the entrance of the tunnels. She eyed him, wondering why the hell he was stopping her from what she was about to do. Malcolm, then eyed the tunnel with suspicion...

And that was Savannah’s cue to back away from the Tunnels.

No way. Have the Tunnels...been compromised?

Meanwhile, Raziah had eyes on the door and on her father. Was there really no way out for them? Her heart was about to burst out of her ribcage. She was too scared to move from where she stood, and only her eyes shifted from her dying father to the unreal-looking human that was now standing by the door, gnashing its teeth at them.

Everyone had their hearts in their mouth, heavy lumps clogging their throats. The only person who could still move was Malcolm, but he knew he had no chance against something that looked like a beast in human form. If only...his father were here.

But his father was probably with the Queen.

And the Queen thinks they would have escaped using the Tunnels by now.

Shrieking loudly with a hiss, the creature attacked. Raziah had her eyes wide open the whole time, Frozen still. Her eyes caught the rapid movements of the creature, its claws raised and coming down toward her.

It all played out like a movie. A moment played in slow motion.

And...she opened her mouth to scream.

Hands clamped down on her mouth to shut her up, and familiar golden streaks of hair ran past her eyes just as something warm and thick sprayed all over her face, causing her to blink her eyes open and close.

Sharp intakes of breath, heavy breathing, and a sense of safety washed over Raziah’s eyes to see her mother standing in front of her, holding up a sword that was dripping with blood. Behind Raziah stood Sir Galland, the one who had closed her mouth shut from screaming and telling the whole Vampires out there that there were still people alive inside the castle.

Seeing her daughter, Mirabai dropped her sword and embraced Raziah tightly in her arms, raining kisses all over her daughter’s head. She ushered the other children to come into her arms, where she also hugged them, whispering into their ears that they were safe.

Meanwhile, Sir Galland did not hesitate to move into the Tunnel.

"Those things are in there," Malcolm said to his father whom was climbing in already.

"I know. I’ll be back soon," 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

And then, he disappeared into the Tunnel’s darkness.

Mirabai pulled away from the kids and picked up her sword with an assuring smile on her face. Then, she turned to her husband.

She calmly walked over to where he laid, unmoving with his eyes closed.

He had passed away.

And she knew.

She had felt him dying. That was the reason she had rushed back here... but there were so many Vampires in her way and she got here too late.

Healers are known to be able to heal any form of Injury...as long as the person is still alive.
