Chapter 37: Same Page.

What were her true intentions behind the kiss? Nothing much. All she wanted was to melt the look in his eyes, and she didn’t care whether they were falling. She loathed the look in his eyes, and it would be so much better to get him back to his former self.

She’s read so many books in her life, and the authors always explained first kisses as something to behold, as something extremely special because it only happens once. Raziah wasn’t looking forward to anything that would happen during the kiss, she just wanted her husband back. No part of her expected something special to happen during the kiss, and nothing did.

She felt nothing, and she was glad it was like that.

Looking into his eyes, she realized he was just like her. He wasn’t feeling anything too, and he didn’t even look the least surprised at her sudden act, and that must have spiked something up in her because she deepened the kiss with her fingers crossed, softly closing her eyes. His lips were warm against her cold ones, and she could only hope that he would at least stir.

Opening her eyes again, the small hope she had and was holding onto was snatched away when the look in his eyes remained stagnant. Raziah felt disappointed that her first move didn’t work, and she was afraid she couldn’t go further than a kiss. Not when he was in this state - the thought alone of trying to bed him in this state of his was making her vibrate, so she could only hold onto him as they plunged deep into the water below.

The current was strong, and Raziah’s body was swept away from his by the strong current. But she grabbed onto his strong biceps with her arm as he held her back, and kicked them out of the water. They both swam to the bank of the fall, dripping from head to toe. Raziah was coughing out the little water that had made its way inside of her, while her husband just stood there staring blankly at the height of the cliff, where they had jumped off from.

Her legs were weak, but she couldn’t care less as she walked up to him. She also looked up the cliff, realizing just how high they had jumped off from, and her extended sight reminded her that the helm of her armor must have flown off her head somewhere along the run, or fall. Her hair was all loose now and sticking all over her pale face, but luckily, she still had her sword sitting inside its sheath, hooked to her side.

"Why did you do that?"

Raziah’s body stiffened immediately. She blinked softly, before turning her head to look at him, it was the first time he was saying something to her ever since she came for him, and she hated how relieved she felt to hear his voice again, and what she hated, even more, was the emotionless and gruel tone he was rumbling out.

"I thought it would help." She simply replied, but he didn’t look at her. His eyes were glued to the cliff.

"Let it be the last time, Raziah." He then turned and stared at her, the cold warning overflowing out of him. His wet hair that clung to his body looked soft to the touch, and he looked sinfully dangerous. It was heartwrenching to keep seeing him like this, but Raziah didn’t want to show him how scared she was.

She would never let him know.

"Trust me, I don’t plan to ever do that." She replied immediately, tearing her gaze off him as she looked around. The place was beautiful and quiet, and she had no idea where they were, "Do you have any idea how we would get back to the others?"

"Stay put,"

And with that, she let herself crumble to the rocky floor. She stared up at the beautiful sky, mentally sighing at her attitude. She turned away from him and faced the other direction, her mind replaying everything that happened. She was glad they were on the same page about the kiss, and it was reassuring to know he wasn’t planning on getting close to her anytime soon.

When she heard him walking away, she turned back to him only to witness him dive deep into the raging currents again, and Raziah shot up from the floor, yelling after him with a thudding heart, "Your Majesty!!"

But he was already gone, and she was stunned. They had just struggled to...

Wait a minute, she didn’t see him struggling when he had pulled her out or swam to the bank. In fact, it felt like the currents were only Messing around with her, like the man’s strength far superseded that of the water’s, and it couldn’t pull him down with it. Raziah stared into the water, looking around for any sign of her husband. Why did he go in there again? Why didn’t he say anything?

The thought of going after him had just dropped into her mind, and she was taking off her shoes when something like an explosion came from underneath the water, the waves shooting out like Chaos was going on down there. The whole ground heavily trembled under the vibration, and Raziah had to hold herself from falling backward. Now she was more worried than ever because her husband was down there!

The same explosion came again, and again, the water turning into a sea of madness while the ground shook with the most intense rumbles, looking like an earthquake or a volcano eruption from underwater but the trembles were crazy!

When she noticed the ground around her beginning to crack, she began to move back, her breathing getting heavy as the cracks grew wider and wider. She didn’t realize someone was coming from behind her, till she almost bumped into him. Her senses should have kicked in the second he came into her range, but the sound of nature’s protest and quakings had pulled her all attention, and Raziah moved just in time to catch the little guy before he lost his footing and fell.

Brown hair and familiar light grey eyes slowly fluttered open as she shook his to wake up. It’s always surprised her how the boy had gotten through the security and gates of the kingdom back in Sabaean, and somehow into their carriage while sleeping, but now that she found him here she could now confidently say in her mind that it was either it was someone that kept doing this, or another mysterious occurrence was happening to Caius that even he nor Fabia couldn’t explain.

At first, she didn’t want to believe it was Caius that was there, but when he opened his eyes and those lovely irises and smile greeted her, she couldn’t even convince herself anymore not to believe him. Immediately, she took him into the safety her arms could offer and sprinted away from the place.

Caius, who was once again confused about how he had gotten there was looking around. His curious eyes circulated the area, and suddenly - he let out a light scream. Raziah also heard the swift change in pressure, and she whipped around and evaded the blade just in time before it touched her.

It can’t be...

They couldn’t be getting attacked again. Was it the trembles that revealed their location? Increasing her speed, she sprinted away as far as she could, Into the vast and tall forest that was just in front of her. She couldn’t stay where the earth wasn’t balanced or else fighting anyone there would be a very bad idea.

And now that Caius was here with her, it would be harder to protect the both of them.

As she ran for her life, she kept trying to evade the blades that were thrown at her. She didn’t have time to think about the state of her body as she finally stopped somewhere as soon as the trembling greatly reduced.

"Close your eyes, and don’t you open them till I ask you to. Promise me." Raziah warned sternly at the boy in her arms who had tightly wrapped both legs and arms around her. He was softly trembling in fear, and all she could do for him was pat his head again in reassurance, "Don’t you worry, you’ll be fine," she whispered again.

And that was enough to make him grip her harder, and snuggle his head into her neck. Taking that as his answer, Raziah’s eyes closed shut as her attention was now solemnly focused on the multiple figures emerging from the forest. She took in a deep breath, holding her swords well against her palm as she got ready for whatever it was that was impending.

They were about twice a dozen of them and if not more. They looked stronger than the regular ones and looked ready to attack her. No, they didn’t just look strong, they seem a little different than the previous ones. The prickles on her skin and the chills gave her a much different vibe, and she had this feeling she was dealing with an entirely different army or people.

One of them came forward, a smug look on his scarred face, and spoke, "Give us the kid, and we’ll let you go without a scar on that gorgeous face."
