Chapter 178: The Attack

They had just pulled out from underground, back into the castle when the warning bell of the kingdom went off, alarming everyone that they were under attack.

Mirabai pulled her daughter to the far end of the castle, with guards on their feet, rushing out of the palace to defend the kingdom.

"Mirabai!" The King sprung out from one of the rooms as soon as he sighted them, his eyes looking between his wife and daughter to make sure none of them were hurt, "Where have you been? Are you okay?"

Seeing her husband was a huge relief, "Take Raziah with you and hide."

Seeing the pandemonium going on around her, and the screams of the villagers that were getting more and more clearer as time went on had Raziah shaking on her feet, and she wrapped herself around her father’s waist trying to cancel out any noise.

"Hide? I’m not doing that," William replied strongly.

"They’re not humans out there, Liam!" Mirabai fired back, breathing hard, "You cannot take them on. You’re only human. I will not lose you!"

"And what about you?" William retorted, holding his wife’s arm, "Just because you’re not human doesn’t mean I’m not afraid to lose you. I cannot sit still and watch you risk your life for me!"

"William! I have a chance against them. You don’t! And we definitely do not have the luxury to stand here discussing about this,"

"I am the King, Mira! The King of Kaneria. Does it make sense that I act like the coward and stay behind while everyone else is risking their lives?!"

Mirabai almost hissed, frustrated at his stubbornness. She peeled off his hand from her body, then cupped his face softly, "And it is because you’re the King, that is why you must survive. If you’re alive, then definitely, I know, Kaneria has a future!"

Without further Ado, Mirabai used her strength to push William and Raziah into the room he had just walked out of. The King and daughter landed hard on the floor, and William looked up at his wife with his eyes trembling and unshed tears pooling in his eyes, "Take the tunnels in there and get the hell out of here!" Mirabai yelled at the both of them, then slammed the door shut, locking them both in.

"Mother!" Raziah screamed and ran for the door to try and unlock it. She turned to her father, with tears running down her eyes, "Why did she do that? What is she doing?! Why are we under attack?!"

William glanced back at the hidden hole in the walls where the secret tunnel leading straight to another kingdom lay, then he looked back at the closed door. His eyes were swollen and red, and he seemed to be contemplating for a bit before he finally made up his mind.

Immediately, he rushed over to where a set of armory was hanging from the wall and wore it all over himself, then he secured a sword to his sides and rushed back to where Raziah stood just watching her father.

"What are you doing?!" She said softly, her strength sipping out of her, "Don’t Tell me you’re going out there, too."

William smiled and stroked his daughter’s hair, "Don’t worry my daughter, I’ll be back for you. Take the tunnels and follow the path. I’ll send Malcolm after you, soon. I promise!"

"No!" Raziah cried just as the building shook in its foundations and she hauled herself into her Father’s arms, "None of you is leaving me. You and I will go out there, and find mum!"

"You’re too young for any of this, my daughter," Liam said to her, his deep voice so strong as if he was trying to force the understanding and gravity of the situation into his head, "That is why I have to go alone. I’ll find your mum, and we will come and join you soon. Believe me, for I am promising you. Not just as your father, but as your king." And then, William looked straight into her teary and scared eyes, "Have I ever broken any of my promises?"

She shook her head as another tear rolled down her eyes.

"Good. Now, I want you to get going."

Before he could undo the coverage of the tunnels, someone knocked heavily on the door, "It’s Malcolm! Malcolm!!"

The King rushed and yanked open the door, and there was the little boy with blood rolling down his face... but he still seemed to be alright, "The Queen said I’ll find you here, Your Highness." He announced, Savannah trembling next to him with her eyes looking back and forth, all around her shaking heavily like she had witnessed so many deaths in such a short period of time. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Malcolm! Savannah!" Raziah cried as both of them ran in and hugged her.

Seeing Malcolm and Savannah had relief shining in the king’s eyes. With Savannah’s wiseness and Malcolm’s strength, they would get safely through the tunnels without him having to worry about anything.

"The Tunnels, now!" William said and used his elbow to break down the obstacle that had been carved to blend in with the walls, revealing the round road that lay underneath.

At that moment, the screams and shrills of horror grew louder around them, coming from almost everywhere and the air was now clogged up with smoke. Things were burning and falling to the ground around them, that much was obvious.

But the humans had very much underestimated what it meant to be attacked by Vampires. Every second was like Gold, and they had already wasted far too much time.

The door suddenly burst open, and a grim figure came running in with red hungry eyes, extremely pale skin, and outstretched claws. Before any form of defense could even be made, it had its claws and teeth sunk deeply into the King’s neck.

Horror has never looked more real in the children’s eyes, and Raziah watched the scene unfold right there in front of her eyes. The King had been pinned down, and Raziah has never seen anyone shake so badly before as if his life essence was being sucked out of them.

The only person who could move was Malcolm and he did not hesitate in picking up a small mug on the table next to him and throwing it at the creature’s head. The mug crashed on the vampire’s head, and it withdrew its teeth harshly out of the king’s neck, turned around, and hissed at them, blood spluttering out of the king’s neck.

Using that opportunity where the creature’s attention was now divided, William quickly pulled out a small dagger from his leg and stabbed it into the creature’s neck, several times as it hissed even more in pain and strangled him back.

The dang thing was covered in blood and took a while before it finally gave up and lay dead on the King’s chest.

"Oh God...What is that?" Savannah took a step back, seeing the damage that had already been done to the King, "Oh, my God...,"
