Tears rolled down Raziah’s eyes at the realization that her father had already passed away. Her mother squatted down next to her father, took his hand, and planted a soft kiss on his knuckles...then another on his forehead.
Everyone could feel Mirabai’s aura becoming heavier. The room’s air was becoming thicker by the second, and one could clearly see that the veins around the Queen’s neck had popped out. Her breathing was hitched, and there was a maddening look growing in her eyes, making her look almost as terrifying at the creatures that had attacked them.
Raziah thought she had seen her mother break down once before, but that was nothing compared to the barren and cold look that fixed and filled her mother’s gorgeous eyes as Mirabai stood up.
Mirabai was deathly. She looked ghastly in every way. Words failed her miserably. She was afraid to open her mouth to say something assuring to the kids and end up screaming instead. Somewhere inside the tunnels, she could hear Sir Galland fighting off the Vampires that had somehow gotten in there, but the noise sounded so distant inside her head.
Her legs shook weakly as she forced herself back to her feet using her sword to push herself up. Everyone then noticed the wristband around her mother’s arm beginning to glow...and when Mirabai looked at them, they were stunned to also feel that her eyes had lit up.
Standing in the darkness of the room, Mirabai resembled a phantom with eyes thirsty for revenge. Eyes that spoke volumes of hatred, suffering, and sadness. She had just lost the love of her life and was getting closer and closer to losing her mind.
"Mother...," Raziah murmured.
Taking a deep breath and a quick blink, Mirabai was able to get herself under control again...at least a little bit. Even though her blood was boiling, even though every step she took toward the kids and every movement was spitting fire, she somehow managed to stretch her lips into a thin smile.
Mirabai then pulled out something awfully familiar from inside the pocket of her dress, revealing the illusion box she had told Raziah about. It was even smaller than Raziah had remembered, able to fit inside a pocket.
Mirabai let it slip from her hands intentionally and as soon as it hit the ground, the box began growing bigger and bigger till it was big enough to fit a person in. At the top, Mirabai threw it open as if she was opening a treasure chest, then looked at Savannah, "Get inside,"
Savannah was confused, "Your Highness...?"
"Trust me. You’ll be safe in here," Mirabai assured with a calm gaze.
"Trust her," Malcolm chipped in, placing a hand on Savannah’s shoulder.
Savannah swallowed and walked up to the box. She peeked inside to see a warm glow emitting from inside. One more look around, and she started to let herself inside the box. Impossibly, Raziah couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw Savannah fully disappear inside the box.
"What just happened?!" Raziah demanded, staring intently at her mother.
"She’s safe, Raziah. It’s a safe box," Malcolm replied again.
"How do you know that?"
"You and Malcolm are to get in there," Mirabai said. That did not do anything to help with the princess’s confusion.
Just then, Sir Galland stepped out of the Tunnels again, "More will be here soon, Your Highness. We have to leave, now!"
Malcolm stared at his father. He looked very scared.
"Are you coming?"
Sir Galland shook his head slightly, "I have to stay with her highness. Get inside, now!"
Malcolm couldn’t help himself, "But...What if...?"
"You’ll make it without me. You’re my son, and you’re strong!" Sir Galland did not show too much emotion. He did not even move close to his son, and Malcolm, although his eyes were flooded with tears, he did not let a drop fall down.
"Get in, now!"
Malcolm ran up to his father and wrapped his arm around his neck. At that moment, a drop of tear fell down Sir Galland’s face and it was such an emotional thing to watch Malcolm holding onto his father like he never wanted to let go.
But Galland wouldn’t have it that way. He dragged Malcolm off him and barked at his face, "Now!"
Once Malcolm was safely inside the box too, Raziah turned to her mother wondering if they would also have to say goodbye.
Mirabai knelt in front of her daughter, and stroked her face with the strongest and warmest look any mother could give her child, "I want you to do three things for me."
Raziah pouted her lips and they trembled.
"One. Listen to Malcolm and don’t cause too much trouble for the people around you. Two, Don’t be afraid to be who you want to be. And three, When you grow up and get married, look after your husband and obey him. Remember where you came from... Uphold your dignity and pride as a Princess... because that is what you’re!" Her words were said with finality, like someone who could never be changed.
Then, Mirabai took off the wristband and wore it on her daughter’s wrist instead, "This is for... Just in case."
"Just in case what?" Raziah cried, "You’re coming with us, aren’t you?"
"Of course, my dear. I’ll be right behind you."
Mirabai quickly picked up her daughter and tossed her into the Box. As Raziah fell into it with a light scream, she looked up to see her mother crying profusely, unbearable pain and emotions she had always held back gleaming through her beautiful eyes. It was something she sighted for less than a second, but the view was another thing that stuck straight to the soul.
Mirabai closed the lid, shutting the kids from the outside environment.
Meanwhile, Raziah was surprised to feel herself landing on the ground of the box as soft as a bed. She looked up to see that it was just as her mother had explained to her back in the workshop room...
The Box was much more bigger and spacious on the inside. Big enough to contain over ten people and about four meters tall.
To get out of it, there was a small ladder leading to where the lid was closed shut at the far height of the box.
Outside the box, Mirabai watched as the Magical box she and Harlow had invented grew smaller and smaller till it was the same size as the button of a cloth. Malcolm already knew how to control the box, and Mirabai watched together with Galland as the box began to move, rolling out of the room.
"They’re safe now," Galland said softly.
The hisses of vampires inside the Tunnel were growing closer.
"Are we going to make it, Galland?" Mirabai mumbled, clutching her sword.
"I don’t know about that, your highness. But one thing is clear," He unsheathed his sword and held it to his heart, "They’ll have to go through me first to get to you!"
If loyalty was a person, it was Galland. That was what Mirabai thought at the moment.
With one more glance at her husband, Mirabai and Sir Galland ran out of the room. All of them could have just gotten into the box, but if they all did, who would protect the people of the kingdom?!
