Standing in front of a huge tree, she knew she had found what she was looking for. After wandering around for months, her hard work had paid off and she would finally get home.
Aletta touched the bark of the tree, making sure to confirm it was the one before she made any move. She accessed her surrounding once again to make sure there wasn’t anyone close by before she gently pressed a small knife she had with her to the palm of her hand.
Blood oozed out of the wound she had inflicted, then she placed the wounded palm on the tree. It took a few seconds for it to activate, and she breathe a sigh of relief to see that she hadn’t mistaken the tree for another this time.
She took her hand away and a step back as the tree began to slowly crack where blood had touched, shaking heavily till the crack grew into a large hole that could fit a person. As it washed over her that she was finally going home this time, a sad smile broke out on her face.
It’s been three months since she last saw any of them, since the night of the Red Moon when she had run into the Princess. Aletta never did feel too good about staying with them. One glance at her and they already knew she was different. She felt the only reason no one had confronted her about the matter was because Zoan was there.
But that wasn’t what she wanted for herself. And speaking of Zoan, she hated his third option about their deal. She didn’t want to be responsible for anyone’s downfall, and she felt like he would keep pushing her. She had her own demons to fight, she can’t be responsible for more than she can handle.
Luckily she had survived by feeding on fruits she had plucked here and there since this forest was bountiful with fruit trees as she kept searching for this particular tree. Also, she had snuck into the palace about two months ago and dropped two letters.
One at Fabia’s room, and the other at Zoan’s to tell them that they would probably never see her again.
A hiss from behind had her whirling around to see what had made the noise. Even before the figure came into view, her mind jumped into chaos. Under no circumstance was her kind ever allowed to be caught in a situation where the tree gate was open, and she had delayed walking by thinking about the past.
Before she could turn around and close the gate, something white and smokish ran past her eyes and horror filled her eyes as it wrapped around her body and began pulling her back to whatever was behind her. It was almost nightfall where she was, and she struggled helplessly against the tight hold of what looked very familiar to her.
In a few seconds, she could feel it sucking out her energy and weakening her body faster than she imagined. Her body turned limp, and her eyes were falling.
"Zoan...?" She asked softly as she saw his face. He was looking pale, and weak. His teeth were chattering like some hungry animal that was about to strike. Hungry?, "Zoan, For how long have you been following me? When last did you feed?!" She asked frantically, still wriggling to get out of his hold.
With both hands, he held her temple and her shoulder then held them apart to make way for her neck. He was looking incredibly hungry like someone who couldn’t take it anymore, and there was even drool running down his mouth as his eyes took in her soft and smooth neck.
All his senses were focused on biting her. The sound of rushing blood down her neck had him running even crazier, and he was more than ready to sink in his teeth and have a taste of the fresh blood in front of him.
Aletta knew it was futile. The smoke holding her down felt like snakes wrapped around her and squeezing the energy out of her.
"Can’t you recognize me?!" She cried harder, yelling as his face came close. His fangs were long and pointy, and his eyes were red with lust for her blood. He couldn’t see anything but red, and her voice was barely reaching him, "It’s Aletta! Remember?! It’s coal, your coal!"
He suddenly blinked, like something had gone off inside him. A ray of hope lit up inside Aletta and she continued yelling with her remaining strength, "Coal! Your fiancee! Yes, the one that’s supposed to be responsible for your downfall, your coal!"
He looked like he was suffering. He didn’t let go of her though, but he had stopped in his advances. His mouth was so close to her neck that if she leaned in they would make contact. It somehow felt as if he was contemplating whether to drop her or just bite her there.
His hunger was massive, but her voice was getting through. He didn’t even know it was her he was holding all this while till she managed to get into his mind with her words. The desire he had for blood was wicked, and he couldn’t sense any animal he could feed on nearby. Even if he tried so hard to let go of her, his instincts would take over immediately she was far enough and he would dash after her again.
Aletta watched as his face twisted over and over again. He looked like he was in a lot of pain, and she could feel him trembling as he fought for control. Having Royal blood and being a special Vampire had their special effect to sustain a Vampire long enough without blood. Just how long has he gone without blood for it to get this bad?
It didn’t look like he would be letting go of her any time soon too.
She was afraid of what will happen to her but was more concerned for him. His eyes were so red it felt like he was ready to explode. There was an incredible amount of lust overflowing from his face, and his breathing was hard and rugged like he was burning from the inside.
"As soon as you feel a little better, You have to stop!" She zeroed her mind and with her eyes tightly closed and swirling with nervousness, she leaned in and felt his lips brush her neck. What came next was a sharp pain she never felt as his fangs sank completely into her neck.
Aletta could feel blood rushing out of her, and the feeling was numbing the pain. After a few seconds, something unexpected happened. Unlike when it was the Red Moon and she couldn’t control what happened to her body, this time she was certain it was the process that had triggered it.
Her body wasn’t used to something like that. It was the first time a Vampire was feeding on her, and her lack of strength and numbness automatically had her body going into defensive mode. It was the reason she had avoided Vampires and other creatures as much as she could because of what she is.
Once it felt like the danger level was high, or something new and couldn’t be processed was occurring to her then her body would automatically go into defensive mode.
Her wings tore through her dress and sprouted out of her back proudly. Flowers budded out at different parts of her body, and brown wood etched out of both sides of her forehead and formed something like a crown around her head.
Meanwhile, Zoan’s mind had taken a new flight. Just when he thought blood had never tasted so good before, the blood became even sweeter and its fragrance was out of this world. It rushed into his mouth like a sweet pot of honey, and he would moan frequently as he drew out more and more, forgetting about everything else around him.
The only thing that finally brought him back to earth was a strangling pain around his neck. He couldn’t ignore it, and was forced to pull away from her only to see twines of branches had wrapped around his neck, and were squeezing the life out of them.
Wondering where they had come out from, he looked up at his victim and the first thing he did was to fling the unknown creature away from him.
