Chapter 16

The journey home was extremely quiet. Shen Nan had a smile on his face the whole time, a smile so meaningful that Zhou Zuizui didn't want to delve into it.

She focused on driving, keeping her eyes on the main road.

At midday, there weren't many pedestrians on the street, and it was already a weekday.

The only good thing is that the weather has improved a lot in the past few days, making it more pleasant to look at. Zhou Zuizui felt the same way; she had been back here for quite some time, and only now was she starting to feel much more comfortable.

The sun is out, and although it's not the same as in the ancient town, it's at least more comforting.

When they were almost home, Shen Nan suddenly spoke.

"Mom called me."

Zhou Zuizui tightened her grip on the steering wheel and hummed in agreement, "Oh."

Shen Nan glanced at the person next to him: "We're going home for dinner tonight, want to come?"

Zhou Zuizui was silent for a moment, then said, "Go."

It's simply unreasonable for them not to visit now that they're back. Besides, Shen's mother and the others have never done anything to wrong her; on the contrary, she's the one who's done more. After marrying Shen Nan, she left without looking back for two years, and now that she's back, she doesn't even go to see them.

"OK."

Shen Nan lowered his head and sent a message to his mother.

Zhou Zuizui glanced at the supermarket on one side, turned on the turn signal, and drove in from there.

The two got out of the car, and she pursed her lips and said, "Let's buy some fruit."

Shen Nan chuckled and hummed in agreement, "Buy it."

The two strolled through the supermarket, one after the other. Considering Shen Nan's health, Zhou Zuizui pushed the cart alone, browsing slowly. She wasn't very good at picking fruit, nor did she know what kind of fruit Shen's mother and the others liked. So, when she looked at the dazzling array of fruit in front of her, she fell silent.

This is the scene that Shen Nan saw when he followed.

He looked at the woman standing straight, and when he met her bewildered gaze, he chuckled softly: "What's wrong?"

What fruits do your mom and dad like to eat?

Shen Nan looked down, glanced around, and then put the apples in the shopping cart. After that, he grabbed a box of strawberries and oranges, and bought a lot of random things.

Zhou Zuizui: "..."

Is Shen Nan planning to move?

After buying the fruit, the two went home.

After arriving home, Shen Nan took the strawberries into the kitchen and began washing them.

Zhou Zuizui's eyebrows twitched as she looked at the man: "The strawberries you bought... weren't you going to take them home?"

Shen Nan stood in the kitchen, his tall figure glancing sideways at her: "No."

"..."

Zhou Zuizui said "oh" and turned to leave the kitchen.

She went to the living room to pack the things she was going to take to Shen Nan's house, and a strange sense of tension arose within her, as if she were about to go to war.

She had met Shen's mother several times before. Actually, Shen's mother and the others didn't have a very good impression of Zhou Zuizui because her marriage to Shen Nan... was something her parents wanted to use to climb the social ladder. And the reason she knew Shen Nan was because of her grandmother.

Grandma Zhou Zuizui knew Grandpa Shen Nan. At the time, Zhou Zuizui was being pressured by her family to go on blind dates one after another, while Shen Nan was also of marriageable age. Grandpa Shen had always wanted Shen Nan to get married, since their military profession was too dangerous. His family always thought that if he could get married as soon as possible, at least he could settle down and be discharged from the military.

Unexpectedly, after marrying Zhou Zuizui, Shen Nan still didn't change jobs; instead, he was transferred to an even more distant place.

Thinking about it, she couldn't help but laugh.

It's likely that Shen's mother and the others harbor deep resentment towards her. Their initial agreement to the marriage was simply because they hoped Shen Nan would at least agree to it, even if they weren't entirely satisfied with Zhou Zuizui as their daughter-in-law.

But unexpectedly—

As she was smiling, Shen Nan brought out a plate of strawberries and placed it on the coffee table in front of her.

"What are you laughing at?"

Zhou Zuizui raised an eyebrow and looked at Shen Nan: "Your parents must resent me for not suppressing you and letting you change careers before.

Shen Nan remained silent for a while.

The two stood and sat like that for a while before Shen Nan pointed to the fruit in front of them and said, "Eat strawberries."

Zhou Zuizui lowered her eyes, looking at the luscious and incredibly fresh strawberries, and felt a strange, indescribable stirring in her heart.

She paused for a moment, then picked up a strawberry and started eating.

Shen Nan sat down next to her, not far apart. They were so close that they could almost hear each other's heavy breathing. She took small bites of the strawberry, feeling inexplicably nervous.

"You...have nothing to do?"

Shen Nan glanced at her lazily: "Yes."

Zhou Zuizui looked at him with a questioning gaze, as if to say, "Why don't you go about your business... why are you sitting next to me?"

The next second, Shen Nan answered her question.

"you."

"What?"

She stared blankly at Shen Nan, not understanding the meaning of his words, or rather... not daring to think about the thought in her heart.

"What about me?"

Shen Nan lifted his eyelids and stared at her, chuckled, and smiled, "It's my business."

The complete sentence is—

My business is about you.

It's related to you.

Zhou Zuizui listened, momentarily taken aback. She subconsciously turned to look at Chen Nan, somewhat incredulous: "You wanted to see me? What did you want to say?"

Shen Nan curled his lips and looked at her intently: "Zhou Zuizui."

"..."

His voice was soft, making it impossible to discern any emotion, yet for some reason, Zhou Zuizui felt a sense of oppression, as if the next thing Shen Nan was about to say was not what she wanted to hear, or perhaps something she didn't want to answer.

Shen Nan stared at her silently for two seconds, then popped a strawberry into her mouth and asked slowly, "Are you really that clueless, or are you just pretending?"

Zhou Zuizui: "..."

She swallowed the strawberry whole, got up to leave, but after standing up, Zhou Zuizui thought, why bother? What's there to be cowardly about? If she were a coward, she wouldn't be Zhou Zuizui!

She looked down at the man sitting on the sofa, raised an eyebrow, and said, "Who are you calling clueless?"

Zhou Zuizui chuckled and bent down to remind Shen Nan, "Captain Shen, it's your fault for not expressing yourself clearly."

Shen Nan was so angry at her turning the tables that he laughed.

He knew Zhou Zuizui's personality and abilities perfectly well. Judging from her appearance, she didn't seem to be clueless or fail to understand what he was saying. He scoffed and pulled her close, saying, "Zhou Zuizui."

Zhou Zuizui smiled, raised an eyebrow, and slapped Shen Nan's hand away: "There's one more thing. If you want to tell me about what happened at the hospital just now, there's no need."

She shrugged, feigning nonchalance, and said, "Even if you are my loveless husband, I will still warn other women who covet you, and not just those two nurses."

"It's not because I'm jealous."

She was trying to cover it up.

"Is that so?" Shen Nan said indifferently.

"No feelings?"

“…Yes.” Zhou Zuizui raised her eyebrows, her eyes full of laughter as she asked, “Isn’t that right?”

Shen Nan's pupils reflected the woman's figure in front of him. Her face was full of smiles, charming and lovely, but Shen Nan knew that at this moment, this person was full of bad intentions.

He narrowed his eyes, sizing up the woman in front of him. Just as he was about to speak, Zhou Zuizui's phone rang, breaking the silence.

Zhou Zuizui paused, then looked at Shen Nan: "I'm going to take this call."

As she spoke, she went straight into her room.

Shen Nan looked at it, his lips twitching as he laughed in exasperation.

No feelings?

The call was from Qiuqiu, who was talking to Zhou Zuizui about the bar. She calls Zhou Zuizui almost every day at noon, and the two of them chatter about random things.

Qiuqiu is extremely dependent on Zhou Zuizui. She is a little girl who was rescued from a 'cage' by Zhou Zuizui.

"Sister! Have you eaten?"

Zhou Zuizui chuckled and glanced at the time: "It's only eleven o'clock, you haven't eaten yet. Have you eaten?"

"No, not at all." Qiuqiu said dejectedly, "Sister, when are you coming back? I miss you."

Zhou Zuizui paused for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Qiuqiu, would you like to come and play in a big city?"

Qiuqiu paused, listening with utter surprise to her voice: "Can I go to a big city too?"

She laughed, sat on a small chair under the balcony, and hummed in agreement: "Why can't I come? The tavern shouldn't be busy right now. If you want to come, I'll buy you a plane ticket."

Qiuqiu was a little conflicted.

She wanted to go. She had never left the ancient town before and was still curious about the outside world. Before going to the ancient town, Qiuqiu lived in a very remote mountain village. Zhou Zuizui met her while traveling and brought her out to live in the ancient town.

"Come on," Zhou Zuizui chuckled softly. "Your sister might not be able to go back for a while. Don't you miss your sister?"

She deliberately used reverse psychology!

"Just leave the tavern to Lin Mu and the others. Come and play for a few days before going back." She said softly, "I'll take you to Disneyland, which you want to go to."

Qiuqiu is only eighteen years old, and her dream is to go to Disneyland one day and be a little princess.

"Okay!" Qiuqiu agreed excitedly.

After hanging up the phone, Zhou Zuizui inquired about the situation from the people in the group, then bought Qiuqiu a plane ticket on the app, and then sent messages to her other employees, asking them to take Qiuqiu to the airport.

The plane ticket is for a few days later.

...

After making the purchase, Zhou Zuizui sat lazily on the balcony.

For some reason, I don't want to go back to the living room and be with that man who makes me feel a little suffocated.

Zhou Zuizui reached up and rubbed her temples, wondering what Shen Nan would have said if Qiuqiu's phone call hadn't interrupted her.

Does it mean yes, or no?

Zhou Zuizui didn't know, and she wasn't sure. Having known Shen Nan for so long, she didn't really understand his personality. Sometimes, when he had a serious expression, you simply couldn't tell what he was thinking. Zhou Zuizui was very good at judging others; she could basically tell what someone was thinking at a glance. But Shen Nan—

She couldn't understand it, nor could she make a clear judgment.

This man is so unpredictable, yet the more unpredictable he is, the more it seems to arouse a certain desire and longing in her.

After lunch, the two went out at 4:30 in the afternoon to visit Shen Nan's parents.

Shen Nan's family lived in the military compound, which ordinary people couldn't enter.

When Shen Nan drove up to the gate, the sentry on duty was surprised. His eyes lit up when he saw him, and he hurriedly shouted, "Brother Nan is back!"

Everyone in this compound knows Shen Nan; he's considered a minor legend here. He's the son of Chief Shen, but from the very beginning until now, Shen Nan has never relied on his family. Whether it was when he first joined the army or later, he even deliberately chose particularly desolate and remote places to train in order to hone himself, staying there for several years at a time.

It was from that time that Shen Nan's name spread throughout the entire compound.

Everyone held him in high esteem and admiration; many in the courtyard even regarded Shen Nan as their role model. He enjoyed exceptionally high prestige within the courtyard.

Shen Nan smiled faintly at the man and said, "Mm."

Returning to familiar surroundings, Shen Nan was in a good mood.

The sentry glanced at the person next to him and asked, "Who is this?"

Shen Nan smiled and nodded, saying, "My wife."

Upon hearing this, the sentry looked at Zhou Zuizui in disbelief, his face instantly turning red: "Hello, sister-in-law!"

Zhou Zuizui: "..."

She nodded, both amused and exasperated, and said, "Hello."

After successfully entering, Zhou Zuizui finally felt the pressure and oppression. Although her family was wealthy, they lacked influence. This was why her father had wanted her to go on numerous blind dates to solidify the family business. While they were rich, they were nowhere near the size of a family like Shen Nan's.

She had visited this compound twice: once after marrying Shen Nan, and once before the wedding to meet Shen Nan's parents.

This is the third time.

Zhou Zuizui looked around, a sense of tension rising within her.

Shen Nan stopped the car, turned his head to look at her, and asked in a low voice, "Nervous?"

"A little."

Shen Nan chuckled softly, opened the car door and got out: "There's nothing to be nervous about, I'm here too."

Zhou Zuizui's eyes flickered slightly, the emotion in her heart becoming even more pronounced. She opened her mouth and replied, "I know."

The two got out of the car, and Shen Nan carried the fruit and led her into the house.

Zhou Zuizui's hands were ice cold. When Shen Nan held them, he looked at her with a deep gaze and said nothing.

As the two arrived at the door, Aunt Chen from the house exclaimed in surprise, "Madam, Anan has returned with his wife!"

"…………"

A sound of footsteps approached, and when Zhou Zuizui looked up, she saw Chen's mother coming downstairs. She looked at the two of them with a smile in her eyes, and when she saw them holding hands, the smile in her eyes deepened.

"I'm back."

"Um."

Chen's mother ignored Chen Nan and looked at Zhou Zuizui: "Zuizui, come sit here. How does it feel to be back?"

Zhou Zuizui was taken aback, not expecting Shen's mother to be so enthusiastic towards her. She felt a little uncomfortable, but still answered Shen's mother's question seriously: "It's not bad, it's just that there are a lot of people and cars, and the weather isn't very good."

Upon hearing this, Mother Shen chuckled and said, "That's right, the scenery and weather in the ancient town are both very nice, aren't they?"

"Um."

Mother Shen's eyes lit up with longing: "I hope I'll have the chance to go and see it someday."

Zhou Zuizui was stunned for a moment, then quickly said, "Mom, you can go anytime you want. It's really nice over there."

“Okay.” Mother Shen looked at her with a smile in her eyes: “Then next time I have some free time, I’ll go with your father to visit and take a look at your little tavern.”

At this point, Zhou Zuizui looked around and asked, "Where are Grandpa and Dad? I brought them some wine."

I prepared this before coming back. I was thinking that if I wasn't going back to Shen Nan's house, I would drink it myself. But if I was coming back, I would bring it to Shen's father and grandfather.

Zhou Zuizui's homemade wine tastes very good, mellow, delicious, and has a particularly refreshing flavor that won't make you feel uncomfortable after drinking it.

Mrs. Shen smiled and said, "Really? Grandpa is upstairs. You should go find him. Your dad will be back later." Then she added, "Go ahead, I'll go to the kitchen to help Aunt Chen."

Zhou Zuizui thought for a moment and said, "I'll go help Aunt Chen too. It's fine if Shen Nan goes."

Upon receiving his wife's order, Shen Nan glanced at her and whispered, "Mom and Aunt Chen are fine in the kitchen. Grandpa misses you."

Zhou Zuizui: "..."

After watching the two go upstairs together, Chen's mother got up and went to the kitchen.

Upstairs, when Grandpa Shen saw the two of them appear together, he waved to Zhou Zuizui and said, "Chuichui, come over here."

Zhou Zuizui laughed, while Shen Nan, who was being ignored, helplessly twitched his lips.

She approached and sat down next to Grandpa Chen, looking at him through the sunlight streaming in from the window: "Grandpa, what are you doing?"

"It's been two years since I last saw you, and you've lost weight again." Grandpa Chen reached out and patted her head, asking in a low voice, "Have you been eating poorly?"

Zhou Zuizui shook her head, her eyes a little sore: "No, I ate well."

Grandpa Shen snorted and turned to look at Shen Nan, who was still standing there: "What are you still standing there for, brat? Why don't you bring us some food?"

Shen Nan: "..."

He glanced at the old man who was trying to get rid of him and hummed in agreement: "I'll go downstairs and get some fruit."

After everyone left, Zhou Zuizui looked at Grandpa Shen and smiled, "Grandpa, did you deliberately let Shen Nan leave?"

Grandpa Shen glanced at her and reached out to pinch her nose: "You little rascal."

Zhou Zuizui laughed, looking especially happy.

She didn't know why, but she was happier with Grandpa Shen than with anyone else. Perhaps it was because Grandpa Shen always gave her a unique sense of security. He was just like her grandmother—good to her and for her own good. Or perhaps Zhou Zuizui found in Grandpa Shen the kind of doting affection her own grandfather had once shown her.

When Zhou Zuizui was very young, she actually lived with her grandparents. She did so until she was five years old.

She rarely saw her grandfather. At that time, Zhou Zuizui's grandfather was still a soldier. He hadn't reached the same position as Shen Nan's grandfather, but he wasn't doing too badly either. He was very busy, but whenever he had time, he would play with Zhou Zuizui. Whatever she wanted, her grandfather could always fulfill her wishes.

So even though she only spent a few years with her grandfather, the impressions remained deep. At this point, she could still recall scene after scene from her childhood.

Because of her grandfather, Zhou Zuizui had always admired police officers and soldiers. They were the most lovable people in the world; although they were strict and serious, they possessed the softest hearts.

That's why she wasn't so resistant when her grandmother first introduced her to Shen Nan.

Thinking about it, Zhou Zuizui looked at Grandpa Chen in front of her and smiled: "Grandpa, what do you want to tell me?"

Grandpa Shen glanced at her. "You came back to visit your parents at the hospital?"

"Um."

"What did you say?"

Zhou Zuizui pursed her lips, unsure of what to say.

Grandpa Shen smiled gently and said earnestly, "Chuichui, if you don't want to go, we won't go." He said softly, "When your grandmother passed away, she told me that what she was most worried about was your unresolved issues, and that your relationship with your parents might become increasingly strained."

Zhou Zuizui lowered her eyes, looking at the chess pieces laid out in front of her, and remained silent.

That's true. Her relationship with her parents will only get worse and worse; it's impossible for it to get better.

Unless they change, or they themselves change. But that's extremely difficult, perhaps even harder than climbing to heaven.

Over the years, Zhou Zuizui has been well aware of her parents' personalities. They are domineering and unreasonable, and they will do anything that benefits them. The reason they haven't punished her yet and let her live in the ancient town is because they are still wary of Shen Nan and Shen Nan's family.

Grandpa Shen chuckled softly, "Grandpa won't say anything to you. Just visit your parents occasionally, and do whatever you want to do the rest."

"Um."

“But…” Grandpa Shen glanced at her: “What’s going on between you two here with Shen Nan?”

Zhou Zuizui choked and looked at the old man in front of her.

"Grandpa!" she said sweetly.

Grandpa Shen chuckled, picked up the teacup in front of him, and took a sip: "Grandpa knows Shen Nan better than you do. He's not an impulsive person."

Zhou Zuizui said "Oh," and pouted, "Me neither!"

Upon hearing this, Grandpa Shen gave her a meaningful look: "Is that so?"

The conversation couldn't continue.

Fortunately, Shen Nan came up and rescued Zhou Zuizui. She looked at the man who appeared and quickly said, "You guys talk, I'll go down and help."

After saying that, feeling guilty, he ran away as fast as he could.

Shen Nan looked at her, raised an eyebrow, and asked his sly grandfather, "Grandpa, what did you say to her?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Grandpa Shen tossed a chess piece toward Shen Nan and angrily continued to curse, "You brat, you haven't been back for two years, have you forgotten all about your grandpa?!"

Shen Nan: "..."

In the kitchen, Zhou Zuizui had just reached the doorway when she heard a conversation inside.

Aunt Chen was chopping vegetables with her head down, while Mother Chen started stir-frying the vegetables. The sounds reached my ears along with the sizzling of the oil in the pan.

Aunt Chen looked at Madam Chen and said with a smile, "Madam, I thought you would give Zui Zui a hard time."

After all, when Shen's mother returned home a few days ago, she looked particularly unwell and complained to the leader that Shen Nan's wife was still there but didn't even know Shen Nan was injured, and then she went on to talk about other things. In short, she wasn't particularly satisfied with Zhou Zuizui.

Looking at the food in the pot, Mother Shen lowered her eyes and hummed in agreement: "I would like to, but my overprotective son won't allow it."

Before the two returned, Shen Nan made a special phone call to his mother and said a few words.

Aunt Chen chuckled softly and looked at Mother Chen: "What did Anan say?"

Mother Shen snorted coldly: "That brat told me to be nicer to his wife, and even said that Zui Zui had never felt warmth at home and couldn't marry into our family to be bullied." At this, Mother Shen got angry: "Am I a wicked mother-in-law? Do I look like the kind of person who would let Zui Zui be bullied?!"

Aunt Chen chuckled as she listened, "Of course not, Madam is the kindest." She thought for a moment and added, "Young Master is also worried about Zui Zui. Although Zui Zui is not perfect, she is actually a kind-hearted child."

She had met Zhou Zuizui twice and often heard Grandpa Shen talk about her. So her understanding of her was probably even deeper than that of Grandpa Shen's mother.

Mother Shen chuckled, "One or two of them, never coming home all year round, it's not proper at all."

After saying that, she sighed again: "Actually, although I'm not entirely satisfied with Zui Zui, I'm not that dissatisfied. She can go to the ancient town whenever she wants, that's fine. We're in good health, we don't need our son and daughter-in-law to wait on us. But you said Chen Nan was injured... and she still went shopping and had fun, that just..."

Parents love their children the most.

...

Hearing this, Zhou Zuizui silently withdrew.

She lowered her eyelids and tiptoed out of the hall.

She didn't know how Shen Nan had managed to persuade his mother, but it seemed that whether it was during their wedding or now, Shen Nan always had the ability to convince his elders. If she hadn't overheard this today, she thought Shen Nan might never have told her this in his entire life.

Thinking about it, Zhou Zuizui looked up at the sunset in the evening. The sky was incredibly beautiful as the sun set.

Actually, this place is quite beautiful. She just hadn't noticed it before.

She chuckled softly, lowered her head, and walked to the side.

After walking around for a while, Zhou Zuizui was about to go back. As soon as she turned around, she saw a man standing not far away. The man was standing under a tree with his back to the setting sun, his hands in his pockets, staring intently at her.

She paused, looked up, and walked over there.

Why did you come out?

Shen Nan glanced at her: "Is it stuffy in there?"

"fine."

Zhou Zuizui asked, "Have you eaten?"

"almost."

The two turned back, and that evening, Shen's father also returned. He was always a man of few words, and when he saw the two of them, he simply smiled and said, "It's all good."

Afterwards, the family enjoyed their meal together happily, but Zhou Zuizui, preoccupied with something on her mind, ate very little.

After dinner, Shen Nan sat with them for a while before saying he had to go back.

Mother Shen looked at the two of them in surprise: "Not sleeping at home?"

Shen Nan nodded: "Let's not sleep at home tonight, we haven't prepared anything."

Mother Shen pursed her lips and frowned: "I've already made up the beds for you."

...

The group remained silent for a moment, then Zhou Zuizui looked at Chen's mother and said, "Mom, I'll sleep at home."

The others: "???"

The group stared at her in astonishment, somewhat incredulous. Even Shen Nan glanced at her, asking, "What did you say?"

Zhou Zuizui sat on the sofa without moving, and whispered to her mother, "Mom, can I sleep at home tonight?"

Mrs. Shen was flattered and quickly said, "Of course! Your room has been empty for a long time. I just washed and dried the quilts these past few days and tidied it up for you. It's perfect for you to sleep at home."

Zhou Zuizui smiled, looking especially happy: "Okay, thank you, Mom."

Mother Shen glanced at Shen Nan, and Shen Nan sat down again with no other choice.

Father Shen glanced at him and said, "Shen Nan, come with me to the study."

"…………"

When Shen Nan came out of the study, he happened to run into his mother.

"And her?"

Chen's mother gouged out his eyes: "You brat."

Shen Nan was both amused and exasperated. He touched his nose and called out, "Mom."

“In your room.”

"Okay," Shen Nan said. "Thank you, Mom."

Mother Shen knew what he was thanking her for, and after thinking for a moment, she said earnestly, "Now that you are husband and wife, you should manage your marriage well and not let things be the same as before. You should live a good life together."

"Um."

Shen Nan went upstairs to his room. When he opened the door, Zhou Zuizui wasn't there. The next moment, Shen Nan heard the sound of water coming from the bathroom.

She is taking a shower.

Shen Nan paused, thinking of the person in the bathroom. His Adam's apple bobbed, he coughed, took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a drag to calm himself down.

He stood on the balcony with one hand in his pocket, and when Zhou Zuizui came out wrapped in a bath towel and saw him, she was clearly taken aback.

When did you come in?

Shen Nan didn't say anything. He looked down at the woman in front of him.

Zhou Zuizui stood straight in front of him, wrapped only in a bath towel. Her collarbone was fair and alluring, and water droplets dripped from her head, running down her delicate skin and disappearing under the white bath towel, immersing her in the beautiful scenery inside.

Shen Nan's eyes darkened, his Adam's apple bobbing: "Why aren't you wearing any clothes?"

Zhou Zuizui looked down, raised an eyebrow at her current appearance, and said, "I don't have any clothes at your house."

Shen Nan glanced sideways and walked towards the wardrobe on one side: "Wear mine first, do you mind?"

"It doesn't matter."

As soon as Shen Nan opened the wardrobe, Zhou Zuizui followed him with a mischievous grin: "Captain Shen."

"Speak." Shen Nan's voice was deep, as if he was deliberately suppressing something.

Zhou Zuizui closed his wardrobe, crawled over to it, stood in front of Shen Nan, and looked up at him: "Are you afraid of me dressed like this?"

Shen Nan remained silent, his eyelids slightly lowered as he gazed at the woman he held in his arms. She was leaning against the wardrobe, her arms outstretched to one side, making it seem as if she was completely enveloped by him.

Zhou Zuizui observed his expression, her eyes sparkling as she raised an eyebrow: "Admit it."

"Hmm?" Shen Nan lowered his head and bent down a little closer to her.

Zhou Zuizui, completely unaware of any danger, provoked Shen Nan: "Admit it... you're afraid of me dressed like this."

Shen Nan glanced at the sliver of scenery that was exposed and snorted coldly, "Is that so?"

"Isn't that so?"

Shen Nan, unable to bear it any longer, simply grabbed her and threw a shirt and pants at her, saying, "Go change!"

Zhou Zuizui: "..."

She looked at Shen Nan, who hadn't acted impulsively, shrugged, took her clothes to the bathroom, changed, and then smiled as she looked at herself in the mirror.

She came out, leaned against the door, looked at Shen Nan, and asked with a smile, "Shen Nan, did you do this on purpose?"

Upon hearing this, Shen Nan looked up and saw... Shen Nan subconsciously swore.

Zhou Zuizui didn't wear the pants he gave her; she only wore a T-shirt, which was neither long nor short, barely covering the top of her thighs.

He looked at it, his brow twitching slightly: "Where are your pants?"

"I can't wear it," Zhou Zuizui said. "You know how thin I am."

Shen Nan: "..."

This is what it means to shoot yourself in the foot.

Zhou Zuizui ignored him, and after teasing him, she went straight to the bedside, found a hairdryer and started drying her hair. The buzzing sound disturbed Shen Nan's mind. He clicked his tongue, grabbed some clothes from the side and went into the bathroom.

As soon as the person left, the cunning look in Zhou Zuizui's eyes was clearly visible.

She's starting to understand things. So she's going to put on a really good show.

...

A short while later, Shen Nan came out, her hair casually dried. Zhou Zuizui was already lying on the bed playing on her phone.

Shen Nan glanced at him intently, then lifted the covers and got up from one side.

Neither of them spoke. After a while, Zhou Zuizui quietly moved closer to Shen Nan, nudging his calf with her foot. Facing his gaze, Zhou Zuizui showed no fear whatsoever, blinking as she asked, "Captain Shen, you haven't answered my question yet."

"What's the problem?" he asked, feigning ignorance.

Zhou Zuizui chuckled, flipped over and sat up on him, raising her eyebrows meaningfully: "What do you think?"

Her eyes were full of mischief, and she had a whole bunch of little ideas up her sleeve. She bent down and got closer to Shen Nan: "You're afraid I'll dress like that because you're afraid you won't be able to resist."

Shen Nan stared intently at her for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed. A hint of self-deprecation in his voice, he said, "So what?"

Zhou Zuizui smiled smugly: "Nothing much." As she spoke, she tried to climb off Shen Nan, saying as she moved, "I'm just a little smug. I didn't expect my figure to have any use. I didn't expect Captain Shen to... Ah..." Before she could finish speaking, she suddenly screamed, and unexpectedly, Zhou Zuizui was once again pinned down by him.

She was stunned, staring at the man in front of her in astonishment: "You..." Shen Nan's eyes were deep, unfathomable, and when he looked at Zhou Zuizui, he inexplicably made her feel uneasy.

That seems a bit too cheeky.

What are you going to do?

"Hmm?" Shen Nan turned his head, looking at her intently. In his eyes, there was possessiveness and aggression. He asked calmly, "What do you think?"
