Chapter 13

Zhou Zuizui blinked sharply, feeling the warm touch on her lips.

Her heart leaped into her throat, her eyes wide as she cautiously observed the changes in Shen Nan's expression...

Their noses touched, their breaths mingling, and his lips pressed against hers, making no other move. After a while, Zhou Zuizui shifted her body and took two steps back.

very good.

Shen Nan made no further move and remained seated on the carpet in his current position.

She took a deep breath, pressed her hand to her lips that still held his warm breath, glanced at her phone which was recording, and quickly saved and closed it. Not daring to be cheeky anymore, Zhou Zuizui swallowed, waved her hand in front of Shen Nan, and asked softly, "Want to go to sleep?"

"want."

When Shen Nan was drunk, he was unbelievably well-behaved.

Zhou Zuizui watched and couldn't help but laugh. This time... she was genuinely happy.

She suppressed her slightly excessive laughter, reached out to help Shen Nan up, and led him into the room. After he lay down, Zhou Zuizui tried to leave, but Shen Nan grabbed her hand.

"What's wrong?" She wasn't like her usual self at this moment.

Shen Nan opened his eyes and looked at her, confused but determined, and said, "Sleep."

He meant to sleep together.

Zhou Zuizui was stunned for a moment before she reacted: "Sleep together?"

"Um."

Zhou Zuizui chuckled and readily agreed.

"OK."

As soon as she agreed, Shen Nan moved to the side, giving her the spot where he had been lying.

"..."

Zhou Zuizui lay down without any apparent concern. She knew that a drunk Shen Nan wouldn't do anything; he'd just be very, very obedient.

This shocking secret was revealed when Lu Jiaxiu sold Shen Nan. He said that a long time ago, Shen Nan got drunk once, and that night Shen Nan... overturned his tall image in everyone's mind. He was as obedient as a little puppy. He was still conscious, but he was very obedient. He would do whatever you asked him to do.

It's really fun.

Zhou Zuizui tonight... actually just wanted to give it a try, but I didn't expect him to be so well-behaved.

Thinking about it, Zhou Zuizui lay in the quilt, glanced at the man next to her, and laughed.

The next morning, when Shen Nan woke up, Zhou Zuizui was no longer in the room.

There was a message left by Zhou Zuizui on the bedside table.

"Captain Chen, I need to go out for a bit. Can I borrow your car keys?" — Zhou

Shen Nan stared at the flamboyant handwriting in his hand, then rubbed his temples. The aftereffects of the hangover were a headache, an indescribable pain. He lowered his eyes, staring at the note for a long time, without sending Zhou Zuizui a message to ask where she had gone.

There's only one place she'd go to so early in the morning.

...

The spring chill lingers.

The temperature was unbearably low in the early morning. Zhou Zuizui appeared at the cemetery wearing a black down jacket and with a bare face.

The cemetery was shrouded in a thin mist, as if it were hidden in the mountains.

In the early morning, the only sound here was the rustling of leaves in the wind. Zhou Zuizui looked up at the scene, got out of the car, picked up some flowers from the side, and walked into the cemetery.

She walked slowly with her head down, a hint of sorrow in her eyes that was hard to decipher.

She stopped only when she stood in front of a tombstone, stared at the photo on it, placed flowers on it, bowed, and then whispered, "I've come."

She stood there with her head down, staring intently at the kind-smiling person in the photo. She blinked for a moment before asking in a hoarse voice, "It's been two years since I last visited you. Did you miss me?"

No one answered her.

The only sound was the wind blowing past my ears.

Zhou Zuizui smiled gently, reached out and touched the photo, her fingers lingering on it as she quietly met her gaze.

"Grandma, I miss you."

I don't know if you've missed me, but I have. Although I've been very unfilial for not daring to come back to see you for two years, I can't hold back anymore now.

I want to come back and visit, even just to see you here would be enough.

She smiled, her eyes crinkling, and patted her face, asking, "Grandma, doesn't your Chui Chui look even younger?" She laughed, "I've been doing very well in the ancient town these past two years. The little tavern you left me is doing better and better. The neighbors all say I'm more capable than you!"

The ancient town that Zhou Zuizui lives in now was taken over from her grandmother.

In some ways, Zhou Zuizui is remarkably similar to her grandmother. Their personalities are quite alike.

From childhood, Zhou Zuizui longed for her grandmother's life and everything about her, but unfortunately... it wasn't allowed by most people. In the past, she could only go to the ancient town for a day or two to spend time with her grandmother as an occasional reward.

...

She stood in front of the tombstone, quietly recounting the things that had happened to her over the past two years, even going so far as to recount all the big and small, messy things that had occurred. When she seemed to have nothing more to say, and her hands and feet were so cold that she could no longer feel them, Zhou Zuizui stopped, quietly looking at her for a while, and said, "I have to go back now. I'll come to see you again next time. Remember to think of me."

She smiled gently, lingered for a few more moments, and then turned to leave.

When Zhou Zuizui returned home, she was surprised to find the house empty.

She paused, looked around, and called out, "Shen Nan?"

No one responded.

She blinked, utterly incredulous. Had the man vanished again?

Didn't you say you were on vacation?

Just then, the sound of a combination lock came from outside the door. Zhou Zuizui's ears twitched as she listened, and she turned to look at the person who opened the door. When she returned, Shen Nan raised an eyebrow noncommittally and said in a flat tone, "You're back."

"Um."

Zhou Zuizui stared intently at Shen Nan: "I thought you went on another mission."

Shen Nan paused, glancing at her: "Not for now."

He had a week-long vacation, and only three days had passed.

Shen Nan went to the supermarket and bought some fruits and vegetables. He tossed his keys aside, picked up the bag, and went into the kitchen. Zhou Zuizui glanced at him, smiled, and followed him in.

She leaned against the wall by the door, watching Shen Nan pack his things, and suddenly asked, "Captain Shen, did you know you were drunk last night?"

Shen Nan: "...Hmm."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Zuizui's eyes darted around, and she continued to ask, "Do you remember what you did?"

Shen Nan turned to look at her and asked casually, "What did you do?"

Upon hearing this, Zhou Zuizui instantly became interested! Could it be that Shen Nan blacks out when he's drunk? Can't he remember what he did?

Her eyes lit up, and she smiled, saying, "You took advantage of me last night."

Shen Nan paused, holding a can of cola, then stuffed it back into the refrigerator, his expression unchanged: "Do you think I'd believe that?"

Zhou Zuizui raised her eyebrows and waved her phone triumphantly: "Don't believe me if you don't want to. Anyway, I've kept the evidence."

As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Nan suddenly turned around and walked towards her, stopping in front of her. He lowered his eyes and stared at her intently, his gaze... filled with a sense of pressure, making Zhou Zuizui feel slightly nervous.

She looked up and met Shen Nan's gaze, coughed, and asked, "What are you doing?"

Shen Nan raised an eyebrow and stared at her intently: "Demonstrate it."

"Demonstrate what?" Zhou Zuizui looked at him in astonishment.

Shen Nan chuckled lightly and said succinctly, "Let me show you how I took advantage of you last night."

He rarely gets drunk, and even when he does, he's unlikely to take advantage of anyone. Shen Nan is confident in that. Besides, Shen Nan actually has a pretty good alcohol tolerance. Last night was a real accident. He has a good tolerance, but he doesn't drink often. He can't compare to Zhou Zuizui, that female alcoholic, but he's probably still quite capable.

At least that's what Shen Nan thinks.

Zhou Zuizui stared at the man in front of her in astonishment. If it weren't for the fact that Shen Nan's serious face looked so sincere, she would have almost thought that Shen Nan was flirting with her again.

Demonstrate it once?

How do I demonstrate?

Want to kiss again?

She's not crazy!

Shen Nan looked at her rolling eyes, and just as he was about to speak, his phone rang in his pocket. He paused, then quickly answered it; it was a special ringtone set for the team.

The next second, Zhou Zuizui saw the man, who had been somewhat nonchalant, suddenly become serious. After replying "okay" a few times, he hung up and looked at her: "I have an urgent mission, I'm leaving."

After saying that, he vanished from Zhou Zuizui's sight in an instant.

She stared in disbelief at the closed door, then smiled helplessly.

Shen Nan's mission this time came in time and was much more serious than expected, which is why he called him while he was still on vacation.

He went downstairs, drove his car, and went straight to the team.

When he arrived, the team was already standing neatly and powerfully on the playground. Shen Nan changed his clothes in a few dozen seconds and then rejoined the team!

This mission is urgent and secret.

A moment later, everyone handed in their commonly used cell phones, and then the mission began.

...

For the next two weeks, Zhou Zuizui did not contact Shen Nan.

She knew what it meant to be a soldier's family member and what she had to endure.

After returning, I didn't want to go back to the ancient town for a while. Instead, I would call Qiuqiu every day to ask about various things at the tavern. Everything seemed to be fine there.

Zhou Zuizui is doing well too. Since Shen Nan isn't around, she spends her days with Xia Wen, and occasionally Ai Zeyang joins them for drinks and such. Zhou Zuizui won't do anything even slightly dangerous; it's not appropriate for her.

That day, Zhou Zuizui and Xia Wen went shopping. While they were enjoying themselves, someone suddenly called out to her.

She paused, turned around and met the gaze of the woman who had called out to her. She hesitated for a moment, staring at the woman in front of her, and pursed her lips for a while before finally calling out, "Mom."

The elegant woman standing in front of her was Shen Nan's mother.

Chen's mother looked at Zhou Zuizui with utter surprise: "Zuizui? You didn't go back to the ancient town?"

Zhou Zuizui let out an "ah" and nodded: "No."

She and Shen Nan had originally planned to go back and visit them, but that night Shen Nan suddenly received a mission and left, so the matter... was put on hold. She wouldn't let Zhou Zuizui go to the Shen family alone.

Mother Shen frowned, and her expression changed instantly.

"You didn't go back to the old town? Then why didn't you go see Anan?"

Zhou Zuizui looked at Chen's mother in astonishment, confused: "To see Chen Nan?" She opened her mouth, wanting to explain: "He didn't go to..."

Zhou Zuizui suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

The meaning behind Shen Mu's words was all too clear.

"He's back?" Zhou Zuizui raised her voice, staring intently at her mother. "Mom, did something happen to him?"

...

Shen Nan's mission this time was quite complicated. While carrying it out, he injured his waist and was stabbed while protecting a teammate.

However, after successfully completing the mission, Shen Nan was ordered to be hospitalized for a full-body examination upon his return.

The knife wound on my waist was a bit serious, and I lost a lot of blood, so I was extremely weak.

Because he was admitted to a military hospital, Shen's mother and father found out immediately, came to see him, and even brought him food for two days.

In the evening, there was a knock on the door, and Shen Nan naturally assumed it was his mother.

He called out, "The door isn't locked," and then went back to looking at his phone.

He didn't dare tell Zhou Zuizui about his injury, fearing she might have some thoughts. Zhou Zuizui was more cautious than anyone else when it came to his injury.

Without even looking up, Shen Nan called out, "Mom, I told you not to bring me food, it's just a minor injury..."

He was interrupted before he could finish speaking.

"Who's your mother?"
