Chapter 41

No one had ever said such a thing to Zhou Zuizui before.

—Just do it. No matter what you do, someone will back you up. Don't be afraid of causing trouble or offending people. You have someone protecting you.

When Zhou Zuizui was little, before her relationship with her parents was so bad, she would make mistakes, after all, she was young. She remembers clearly hitting a boy in kindergarten.

The boy always lifted up the girls' skirts. Although everyone was young at that age and it seemed harmless to joke around, she just couldn't stand it. The girl whose skirt was being lifted was her deskmate. Zhou Zuizui had always been a little tyrant, so she hit the boy.

Later, the boy cried and told the teacher that although she was young, she was logical and clearly explained why she hit him. But everyone felt that it was normal for children to fight, and that it was wrong for her to hit him.

Finally, her parents came. She thought they would understand and protect her, but they didn't. She was forced to apologize to the naughty boy, and her parents also apologized for some inexplicable business relationship.

She thought that was enough; at least when she got home, her parents would tell her that what she did wasn't a big problem, just that she shouldn't have hit someone. But when she got home, her parents scolded her severely, saying that she was meddling in other people's business and so on. In the end, they even locked Zhou Zuizui up for a whole day without giving her any food.

From that time on, she vaguely felt that no matter what she did, right or wrong, as long as it offended people, her parents would never help her.

There's nothing we can do; that's just how her parents are.

Later, when she told her grandmother about this, her grandmother, while not approving of her actions, also said that she did the right thing, but by then it was too late.

Zhou Zuizui's kindergarten days are long gone.

As she grew older, her parents became increasingly demanding in many ways, and Zhou Zuizui became smarter. Even if she did something, she wouldn't do it openly; she learned to hide and conceal it. She stubbornly persevered all along on her own.

Whether she made a mistake or not, her parents never told her, "We will protect you, as long as you are right."

Never.

So when Shen Nan said that, the feeling she had was incomparable and beyond words.

Zhou Zuizui looked up at the man smiling at her, and without thinking, she stood on tiptoe, grabbed his clothes, and kissed him in front of everyone.

Shen Nan paused, then quickly realized what she meant and responded to her.

The two stood on one side of the mall, kissing without any restraint. The handsome man and beautiful woman attracted frequent stares from passersby, and some even whistled.

After the kiss ended, Shen Nan pulled the person with the lowered head into his arms and led him outside.

Only after getting into the car did Shen Nan lick his lips and tease, "What, you dare to do it but not admit it?"

Zhou Zuizui blushed and glanced at him, saying, "A lot of people saw it."

She buried her face in Shen Nan's neck and rubbed against him, saying in a coquettish tone, "I'm sorry, I hope your mom won't see this too."

The shopping mall has surveillance cameras.

Shen Nan was taken aback, then chuckled and hugged the person to comfort them: "It's not that bad, I'll ask Manager Chen for the video later and delete it."

"That's good."

She looked up, hooked her arm around Shen Nan's neck, and gazed at him: "Shen Nan."

"Hmm?" Shen Nan lowered his head, nuzzled her nose, and asked in a slightly hoarse voice, "What do you want to tell me?"

Zhou Zuizui thought for a moment, then kissed the corner of his mouth: "Will what you just said still stand?"

Shen Nan paused for a moment, then kissed her lips again, saying indistinctly, "It counts, it always counts."

Zhou Zuizui listened and responded enthusiastically.

Their lips met, their tongues intertwined, and in the confined space of the car, they expressed their feelings for each other without any restraint or fear of exposure.

After returning home, the two directly expressed their feelings for each other.

On Sunday, Shen Nan stayed home with Zhou Zuizui, having dinner and watching TV. He left in the afternoon. Although Zhou Zuizui was reluctant to see him go, she understood.

She was busy with her own things, and Xia Wen's call came right on time that evening.

"What are you doing?"

"Invite me out for drinks?" Zhou Zuizui laughed. "Why aren't you going on a trip yet? Should I buy you a plane ticket?"

Xia Wen chuckled and said softly, "I'd like to stay in your ancient town for a while."

“Then go ahead.” Zhou Zuizui hesitated for a moment and said, “Qiuqiu and the others all know you, so just go ahead. They’ll take care of all your food, drink and lodging.”

"Do you want to go back and take a look?"

Zhou Zuizui paused for a moment, then said, "You know what, I kind of want to."

Actually, it's not just a little bit, it's a lot. Although I chat with Qiuqiu and the others every day and know what's going on at the tavern, it's still not as reassuring as being there myself, watching over things all the time.

Zhou Zuizui really wanted to drink the wine she brewed herself; she always felt that the wine sold in the bars and shops here wasn't that good.

Xia Wen chuckled: "I'm going on a trip this week and will be back on Friday. Then we'll fly to the ancient town?"

Zhou Zuizui smiled and said, "No problem, I shouldn't be working overtime this weekend. Let me ask Lin You first."

"Okay." Xia Wen chuckled and said, "I need to go out and avoid this trouble."

Hearing this, Zhou Zuizui didn't think much of it. She just assumed Xia Wen wanted to go out to avoid her parents and all that messy stuff. She hummed in agreement twice: "I'm going to sleep. I'll ask you on Monday and then contact you. What time is your flight?"

"Don't come to see me off tomorrow morning, it's too early. Just pick me up when you come back."

"Sure," she readily agreed. "Just let me know when the time comes, and remember to show me the photos."

"good."

After hanging up the phone, Zhou Zuizui stared at her phone for a couple of seconds, then sent Xia Wen a transfer of 666 yuan with the message: "Have a safe journey and return safely."

Xia Wen accepted it and readily replied, "No problem."

Zhou Zuizui smiled, said a few words, and then went to sleep.

The next day, Zhou Zuizui still took the subway to work.

She arrived at the newspaper office a little late. As soon as she entered, the few people who had been gathered together glanced at her and then dispersed.

Zhou Zuizui raised an eyebrow, casually slung her bag over her shoulder, and sat down at her seat. Then, she took her cup to the tea room to get some water. Just as she arrived, Lin looked at her and smiled, "You're here."

"…………"

She glanced at Lin You, paused, and asked, "Did something happen at the newspaper that I don't know about?"

“Yes.” Lin took another sip of coffee and said, “It’s something you don’t know, and it’s explosive.”

Zhou Zuizui choked for a moment, then helplessly said, "Oh? About me?"

Lin chuckled and patted her shoulder, saying, "You've got quite a feeling about that." She laughed, "It really is about you. As soon as I arrived this morning, everyone was talking about how you were actually married."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Zuizui was stunned for a moment, and then she roughly understood what was going on.

I ran into Chen Shasha on Saturday night. The mall manager called me "Young Madam," but Chen Shasha was probably startled by the "surprise" and didn't react at the time. After I got home, Chen Shasha sent Zhou Zuizui a message, asking if she was already married.

Zhou Zuizui honestly nodded and told Chen Shasha that she was married, and had been married for quite some time.

She figured Chen Shasha must have told her colleagues, but she didn't care. She hadn't mentioned it before because no one had asked. Besides, Shen Nan's profession was unusual, and Zhou Zuizui didn't want others to know too much about Shen Nan, as it would have a negative impact on them.

"Oh, this?" Zhou Zuizui said nonchalantly, "So what if you know? Is there a problem?"

Lin choked up again, looking at her speechlessly: "Are you really not aware, or are you pretending not to know?"

"What?"

"Don't you know that all the single young men in the newspaper office are eyeing you?"

This was something everyone noticed just a few days after Zhou Zuizui arrived. However, she was too aloof, and not many men dared to approach her to talk—only two or three. Moreover, whenever Zhou Zuizui needed help, everyone was always eager to assist and never refused.

Everyone had their eyes on Zhou Zuizui, but since it hadn't been long, they couldn't show it too obviously. However, as far as Lin knew, when the men got together, they would often look in her direction.

Zhou Zuizui: "..." She was silent for a few seconds, then said very seriously, "They didn't say anything, so I'll pretend I don't know."

That's just how it is. Nobody said they liked her. Does she have to rush to claim her? Zhou Zuizui isn't really stupid. Since nobody said anything or made it obvious, she's just pretending not to know.

Well, if someone expresses their feelings to her too obviously, she will tell them directly that she is married and loves her husband very much.

But no, no one asked from beginning to end.

Lin was silent for a while, then looked at her and said, "I think everyone thinks that a great beauty like you couldn't possibly get married so early."

Zhou Zuizui raised her hand: "Are you all just using this ring as decoration?"

Lin glanced at the shiny ring again, and remained silent.

perhaps--

Everyone is so willing to deceive themselves.

After the two left the tea room, someone finally asked Zhou Zuizui in person.

"Sister Zui Zui," a female colleague sitting opposite them called out.

"What's wrong?"

Under the encouraging gazes of everyone, the female colleague asked in a low voice, "Sister Zui Zui, you got married?"

"Yes," Zhou Zuizui said with a faint smile, "I've been married for over two years, so what?"

The female colleague across from her was stunned for a moment, then quickly said, "Nothing, nothing, it's just that everyone is a little surprised, it seems like no one has ever seen your husband pick you up from get off work."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Zuizui smiled and said, "My husband is very busy, so it's impossible for him to pick me up from get off work."

Instantly, the male colleagues around who heard this felt a pang of sympathy!

Such a beautiful wife, and he doesn't even pick her up from get off work, making her take the subway. He's no man.

—At this very moment, Captain Shen, who was far away in the field training and whose forehead was dripping with sweat, sneezed loudly.

"Captain, you can't be serious, you caught a cold in this weather?"

Shen Nan rubbed his nose and gave Gao Zhu a disgusted look: "Shut up!"

Under this scorching sun, how could he possibly catch a cold? Captain Shen thought... it was his wife who was thinking of him.

...

A colleague on the side joined the discussion and couldn't help but say, "I didn't expect you to get married so young, Zui Zui."

Zhou Zuizui smiled, her lips curving into a smile, and said, "I'll get married when I meet someone I like, since we're both the right age anyway."

That statement is absolutely correct.

The news of her marriage spread throughout the entire newspaper office within an hour of her confirmation, and even her colleagues who were out on location received the news.

The beautiful intern who was in charge of the entertainment reporter section got married.

Zhou Zuizui was speechless in response.

Zhou Zuizui remained calm and unfazed by everyone's gaze throughout the day.

Just as she was about to leave after get off work, someone called her back.

"Sister Zui Zui," Chen Shasha looked at her, blinked, and asked, "How are you going to get back?"

Zhou Zuizui was taken aback and looked at Chen Shasha: "I'm not going home for now, I have some things to do, what's wrong?"

She arranged to have dinner with Ai Zeyang to discuss some things.

Chen Shasha exclaimed "Ah!" and deliberately said, "Don't you like driving to work? Do you want me to give you a ride?" She smiled and said, "Sorry about Saturday."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Zuizui chuckled and said nonchalantly, "It's alright, you don't need to deliver it."

Chen Shasha's eyes darted around; she still harbored some doubts about her. After returning home that day, she thought about it seriously—where did that manager come from, and how did she know she'd never heard of her?

Furthermore, she analyzed Zhou Zuizui's clothes and products, and they didn't seem particularly expensive. No rich person would be someone who doesn't know how to spend money, or pursue luxury goods... She thought that the manager that day was probably Zhou Zuizui's good friend, there to make things easier for her.

Besides... she went to inquire and found out that the owner of that shopping mall was surnamed Shen, and he only had a son and a daughter. His son was already over forty years old... surely he couldn't be Zhou Zuizui's husband.

Thinking about it, she suddenly felt a little more confident.

"Are you still going to take the subway?" She smiled slightly and said, "Sister Zui Zui, you're so rich, why don't you buy a car?"

Upon hearing this, Zhou Zuizui chuckled but remained silent.

The elevator was crowded, and Chen Shasha was chattering away, which was actually a bit annoying to listen to.

As she left the newspaper office and reached the door, Chen Shasha continued to enthusiastically ask if she needed a ride.

Zhou Zuizui paused, pointed to a Bentley parked not far away, and said, "Sasha, do you know why I don't drive?"

Chen Shasha was taken aback and looked at her.

Zhou Zuizui smiled slightly, walked to the side of the Bentley, opened the car door, turned back to look at her and said, "Because I have someone willing to pick me up and drop me off. Whether I buy a car or not is irrelevant to me."

"Furthermore, it's not a matter of whether I can afford it or not, but whether I want to buy it or not."
