Chapter 365 Xue Mei Leaves

Xu Jie walked home, and Xue Mei followed behind him. When they reached the bottom of her apartment building, he finally couldn't help but block her way.

"Are you kidding me? This is just a transaction between us. If you keep this up, I'm calling the police."

It wasn't that he was afraid Xue Mei would insist on coming home with him; it was just that his house was too small and couldn't accommodate another person.

Ever since Lucy went to jail, he's been thinking about divorcing her.

Unfortunately, if his mother hadn't insisted on taking half of the house, the divorce would have gone smoothly.

His mother felt that her son had been wronged and insisted on compensation from the other party. In a fit of anger, Lucy refused to get a divorce.

Five years later, when she was released from prison, no one wanted her anymore, but at least she could have a husband.

Although they weren't divorced, Lucy's parents still kicked Xu Jie out of their marital home.

And it ruined his job.

Now, he works as a painter on a renovation team, barely making ends meet.

As for where to stay, I'll have to go home.

His father was sick, and his mother was unemployed and relied on him for support.

You can imagine how difficult those days were.

Xue Mei had no money to find a place to stay, nor to go home, so she could only cling to him as her lifeline.

"I'm sticking with you. If you try to get rid of me, I'll kill myself."

Xu Jie had no choice but to take her home.

When Xu's mother saw him bring a woman home, she immediately started scolding him:

"Don't you know what's going on at home? Why are you bringing women home? If you have needs, take care of them outside. Why bring them home?"

Xu Jie didn't say anything, but let Xue Mei into the room.

His room was only five or six square meters, with just a simple bed, a wardrobe, and a table; the rest of the room was cluttered with miscellaneous items.

Seeing that there was nowhere to sit, Xue Mei sat directly on the bed.

"You really don't do that kind of work? What do you do normally?" Xu Jie asked her.

Xue Mei didn't answer him; instead, she asked him to lend her money.

"Lend me two yuan, I'll call my mom and ask her to send me some money."

Xu Jie remained silent for a long time before saying, "I think you'd better tell me your situation, otherwise my mom won't agree to you staying here overnight. Don't underestimate her fighting power."

Xue Mei had just met her mother, and her mother's sharp and mean-spirited manner made her seem very difficult to get along with.

She then told him her story, omitting the beginning and ending, and presenting it in a completely different light.

Xu Jie frowned, remaining noncommittal.

"So you came to the capital for a married man, and that proprietress took all your money. I think you should go home."

Xue Mei shook her head. "No, I'm not willing to accept this. I want to see their family break apart and the couple turn against each other before I can be happy."

As Xu Jie listened to her, he took out a cheap cigarette, put it in his mouth, and lit it with a lighter.

"I'll give you two dollars. Call your mom right now and have her send you the money. I won't keep you here any longer."

As he spoke, he took out two yuan and gave it to her.

Xue Mei took the money, kissed him on the cheek, and then went out.

Xu Jie felt a soft touch on his face, touched it with his hand, and his heart skipped a beat. He chuckled to himself, probably because he hadn't been with a woman in a long time.

At this moment, Song Jia, who was adjusting Huo Xiao's collar, had a furrowed brow and felt somewhat uneasy.

Seeing her like this, Huo Xiao knew she was thinking about Xue Mei, and comforted her:

"Don't overthink it. She brought it on herself. Whatever happens to her has nothing to do with us."

Yesterday, Huo Xiao went to Hualiu Street to wait for her. After Song Jia lured Xue Mei there, she followed him back.

As for what happened next, they had no way of knowing.

"I've heard that people sometimes die over there. I hope no one gets killed." Song Jia became more and more worried. What if someone died? Would the police come after her?

Huo Xiao hugged her and gently comforted her, "If anything happens, just blame it on me. Besides, we didn't do anything. She didn't mean to harm you, and she wouldn't be following you. If all else fails, we'll go ask Bao Liang and see what he has to say."

Gao Baoliang had worked as a criminal investigator and had his own judgment on this situation.

Song Jia shook her head, "Forget it, I'll adjust myself. You're right, I didn't do anything anyway."

After seeing Huo Xiao off to work, she entrusted her two children to Wang Xiufen and went to work at the restaurant as well.

While at work, I kept an eye on what was happening outside.

However, she didn't see Xue Mei again all day.

After getting off work, her mood improved a lot.

When Huo Xiao returned, he said he hadn't seen Xue Mei again, and both of them breathed a sigh of relief.

Given this, they decided to let the children continue attending school.

The Xu family.

Xue Mei was having dinner with Xu Jie's family.

Xu's mother got angry when she saw that her daughter didn't do any work all day but ate a lot.

"Xue Mei, what exactly do you do? A normal girl wouldn't be so shameless as to go and stay at someone else's house, would she?"

Xu's mother spoke in a strange and sarcastic tone.

Xue Mei didn't feel embarrassed at all, and said with a smile:

"Auntie, I'm offering to sleep with you for free. Do you have such a big problem with that? I may not be anything special, but you're all just parasites, living off Xu Jie."

Xu's mother was furious and picked up her chopsticks to hit her, but Xu Jie grabbed her arm.

"Mom, Xiaomei will be leaving in a few days, so you should all just calm down."

With that, he put down his bowl and chopsticks and went back to his room.

Xue Mei made a face at Xu's mother and went back to her room.

Back in the room, Xu Jie frowned and said to her:

"I promised to let you stay for a few days, not so you could come and cause chaos in my home. In the future, stop saying those nonsensical things!"

He picked up a cigarette, ready to light it.

Xue Mei smiled and walked up to him, taking the cigarette from his mouth.

"Which sentence? Is it the one about sleeping with someone?"

Xu Jie froze, watching as she pulled open her clothes and moved closer and closer to him.

With nowhere to hide, he slumped onto the bed and then fell backward.

Xue Mei sat directly on his lap.

"Why are you hiding? Your body is telling you the truth; you're already reacting."

That night, Xue Mei deliberately shouted loudly in order to spite Xu's mother.

After the two had a deeper conversation, Xu Jie, though still outwardly cold towards her, would buy her roast chicken after finishing a day's work.

His mother scolded him for being wasteful, but he continued to do as he pleased.

For several nights in a row, the two were reluctant to part.

However, several days passed and Xue Mei did not receive the money sent by her mother, which made her somewhat anxious.

She could coax Xu Jie into supporting her for a few days, but she couldn't coax him for a lifetime.

She called her mother again.

On the other end of the phone, Xue's mother insisted that she tell her how the money was lost before she would send her more, since the family didn't have much money left, only a few hundred yuan, and she still needed to eat and drink.

Xue Mei had no choice but to tell her about the lost money.

To everyone's surprise, after hearing this, Xue's mother was so angry that she couldn't catch her breath and fainted.

Xue Mei realized the situation was serious, so she quickly asked Xu Jie for money to go home.

With mixed feelings, Xu Jie bought her a train ticket and saw her onto the train.
