Inescapable Death

Inescapable Death

The central laboratory campus is almost as large as two areas.

From day to night, the entire team worked non-stop and finally searched the ground, found the entrance to the underground laboratory, and triggered the mission prompt.

It was almost dark, and everyone was about to return home. The remaining team member drove over with the news:

"Old Li has a high fever and is critically ill again."

He had already been critically ill last night, his life hanging by a thread, when Ye Miaomiao used an interstellar medical robot on him and saved his life. Unexpectedly, he had another attack before nightfall today.

"I gave the NPC permission to use the medical robot." Ye Miaomiao leaned against the passenger side and wiped the sweat from her forehead, surprised, "It should be fine even if I'm not here!"

"But that's the problem," the team member said bitterly. "The NPC said it was just a general-purpose medical robot, only able to treat common symptoms. The second time he became critically ill, the virus in his body might have changed, and now even the robot can't cure him."

"Even if he uses life potions to keep himself alive, the NPC said he won't make it to sunrise tomorrow."

What? !

The sudden and tragic news was met with disbelief, yet also with a feeling of predictability. Old Li had nearly passed away last night, and he was incredibly lucky to have survived another day.

But the inexplicable fear and grief of their fellow man's impending death froze them in their tracks, speechless. The sun gradually set, and the intertwined shadows of the towering buildings stretched into the distance, a dark shadow pressing down on them.

The silence lasted for a while and was interrupted by Ye Miaomiao's crisp voice.

"We'll complete the mission tonight. As long as we get the genetic medicine and give it to Old Li, we can save his life. Even if he's no longer human, he can be saved with the development of technology in the future. It's better than being dead." She slammed the car door shut. The sound was like a hammer, breaking the oppressive atmosphere and making the setting sun less regrettable.

"Those who are tired can go back with the team first. I'll triple your overtime pay for today. Rest for ten minutes and get ready to start the mission!"

Everyone was immediately excited.

The remaining team member waited for a while, but no one left. He scratched his head and drove back alone to deliver the message.

Hungry Hungry territory at night.

The disaster brought everyone in this territory together, and many stayed up late into the night, yawning and scrolling through their screens. Only when they were completely sleepy, after making sure Uncle Li was safe, did they drift off to sleep.

Those who were a little more familiar with Li Da, such as Zeng Wei, tossed and turned and couldn't sleep, so they simply went to the hospital with Li Da in their arms, covered with a blanket.

However, when daybreak approached, there was still no sound from the city gate, but a rapid dripping sound was heard from inside the hospital door.

Li Da remembered the NPC's words "You won't live till dawn" and his heart sank. He stood up suddenly, having almost fallen to the ground after sitting there all night.

At that moment, a rumbling sound came from the window. Zeng Wei quickly looked out the window and saw the city gate slowly opening, and several cars speeding in. Upon hearing the news, the team members, without even having time to put their cars into storage, got out of their cars, closed the gates, and sprinted the hundred meters toward the hospital.

"I got the genetic medicine!"

His eyes were wide open after a sleepless night, and the first ray of light in the early morning made him feel a little uncomfortable. Zeng Wei ignored the burden on his body and turned around excitedly to tell Li Da the good news.

But he saw Li Da squatting on the ground. The door in front of him opened at some point, and the expressionless NPC repeated what he had just said.

"The patient, Li Guiwen, has died."

What?

Already dead!

The voice echoed in his ears. Zeng Wei stared blankly at Li Da, who was crying bitterly. The image of him cooking on the balcony that morning appeared before him. It took him a long time to realize that the kind old man was gone. Old Li would never come back!

Old Li is dead! This news spread quickly throughout the territory.

What's even more regrettable is that the team had worked all night to get the medicine in order to save the person, but they didn't make it in time at the last minute. It is said that Ye Miaomiao also tried to feed the medicine to the corpse, hoping for a miracle to happen.

Unfortunately, when a person dies, it is like a light going out. Everyone will sigh that life and death are determined by fate, and when a natural disaster comes, no one can escape.

Ye Miaomiao helped deal with the funeral and finally lay down in bed at night. Her body was exhausted after a day of hard work, but she couldn't fall asleep. She kept thinking about Li Da crying.

If Old Li hadn't died, he would have been able to enjoy a happy life.

There was a knock on the door, and a familiar face appeared when the door opened.

"I noticed you weren't in a good mood today while helping with the funeral, and you didn't eat much either, so I brought some snacks." Fang Yan picked up the mutton soup, fried chicken, cake, and barbecue in his hands and walked sideways into the house. "If you're not well, the whole territory will have to hold a funeral together."

"How can that be so exaggerated?" Ye Miaomiao was amused by him and temporarily forgot the dull stone in her heart. "How do you know I like to eat the sweet and sour pork in the restaurant? This dish sells out very quickly. Every time I go there, it's gone."

Fang Yan pushed the sweet and sour pork closer to her seat: "Then eat more." He seemed to have a hidden meaning in his words, "For those who survived."

Ye Miaomiao nodded, and the two fell silent.

In fact, she didn't want to eat much, but Fang Yan brought all her favorite foods. No matter how poor her appetite was, she had to have a few bites. The only sound in the room was the sound of eating. After a while, Ye Miaomiao put down her chopsticks.

"I'm full and feel so stuffed." The happiness of a foodie is probably that after eating, the whole world becomes a better place.

Ye Miaomiao tried her best not to think about the dead, and then she remembered the mission last night.

After completing the mission, the technology and equipment obtained have been thrown into the Medical Research Institute for research, and medicines will be available soon.

The biggest rewards were the resources gained from looting the central area and three card draws from killing A-rank zombies. Because Ye Miaomiao had the special "Ten Touching People in the Territory" achievement, she was guaranteed to get an SSR card. Therefore, everyone sold the card draws to her, and with their extremely low luck, they honestly chose the more substantial resources.

Ye Miaomiao clicked on the light screen: "I've been busy until now and haven't drawn a card yet!"

She shared the light screen, rubbed her hands, pointed her finger, and three golden lights flashed -

[Human Skin Mask (SSR): This item can be used on both your territory and yourself. You can now use the light screen to change the appearance of your territory (including buildings, territory, etc.) for one hour. Any time beyond this time will be calculated at 1000 points per hour. You can also change your own appearance for one hour. Any time beyond this time will be calculated at 100 points per hour.]

[Demon Research (SSR): From now on, you can build the "Demon Research Institute" building to research all monsters in the apocalypse and unlock the additional technology branch "Demon Ascension Path".]

Doraemon's Warehouse Treasure Bag (SSR): You have unlocked the special warehouse "Doraemon's Warehouse." This warehouse is connected to all warehouses and grants you a treasure bag for accessing supplies anywhere. This warehouse can be entered by selecting a destination through the city gate.

Ye Miaomiao: “!!!”

She stood up so suddenly that she almost overturned the table in front of her.

Fang Yan couldn't help but laugh and said, "Isn't it delicious?"

"No, no!" Ye Miaomiao pointed at the last SSR card and swallowed hard. "This is the ultimate dream of any hoarder! Doraemon's warehouse! I got it, I actually got it! This can't be a dream! This can't be a dream!"

She wandered around the room, her face full of disbelief, leaving Fang Yan at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

Isn't demon research the ultimate dream of ordinary players? Unlocking this SSR to a certain level can even allow all players in the territory to unlock superpowers!

Perhaps this is what makes Ye Miaomiao different, Fang Yan thought with a smile. Her immersion in and focus on stockpiling is just a facade. The real thing is that no matter what happens or how much she has seen, she always holds a simple dream in her heart - to make everyone happy together!
