laboratory

laboratory

The laboratory's iron door buckled further and further with each slam, and frantic roars echoed from behind. Separated by a wall, inside the door was as silent as death.

If not now, then later.

After the final struggle, everyone sat in silence, waiting for the final judgment.

"No, no, no, there must be a way out." After a moment, Peeta suddenly stood up like crazy. He couldn't stand such silence and smashed the table beside him like crazy.

"There's a way here, under this table, behind this cabinet. This is a laboratory, what if there's a secret passage?"

No one responded to his words. These almost childish speculations only made them feel bored. At the moment of death, everyone has a full life to review.

This wasted time could very well be the last period of my life. Everything is infinitely magnified, yet also shrunk.

It was unknown how long it took before people noticed that the anxious Peeta gradually calmed down.

"Okay, forget it. With so many brothers dying together, we'll have company on the road." Only then could a low voice of comfort be heard from the crowd.

The only response in the room was silence, and the sound of keyboards that came from nowhere. The sound of typing on the keyboard was rapid and echoed throughout the room.

Arthur looked up in surprise. "Peeta, you are..."

Then he saw Peeta squatting in front of the computer desk, staring intently at the blue and white computer in front of him, his fingers moving so fast that he couldn't see the movement.

Where did this computer come from? Arthur was still half-asleep when he heard Peeta's surprised voice.

"Brother Arthur! This is Windows 10, an old version that's been cracked a long time ago. I can quickly hack into the lab's mainframe. It only takes... five minutes at most!"

What? The crowd was agitated.

"But..." someone dampened the excitement, "What's the use?"

"You might not know this," Peeta says excitedly, "but after the war broke out, computer science majors were actually training hackers for the country. We have courses on password extraction and hacking, and we learn about cameras, loudspeakers, and recorders—those are the basics."

He said shyly, "When I was scavenging resources, I found that there were loudspeakers in every area. As for cameras? They're everywhere. As long as we hack into the mainframe, we can probably use these tools to transmit information about our presence to the outside world!"

Everyone absorbed the information in his words dully for a while.

Guo Ruiming stood up suddenly and became excited instantly as if he had been injected with chicken blood.

Death? Who will die?

"If you haven't returned yet so late, the people in the territory must know! As long as we spread the news, the lord will definitely come to rescue us!"

"Everyone, don't give up! Let's hold the door and buy this little brother some time."

"Use any of these tables that can be removed from the floor to block the door. Everyone, please bring out any props you have. Every minute we hold out gives us a little more hope!"

.

On the other side, Ye Miaomiao and others came to the location mentioned by the two drivers, and all they saw was a ruin.

"Where are the people?"

In the dim light, there were messy footprints everywhere, making it difficult to analyze whether they were dead or alive, or where they had escaped to.

The strange noises coming from all directions made everyone afraid to conduct a large-scale search.

"I can't find it!" someone said worriedly.

"He probably isn't dead. According to previous rules, human corpses won't disappear in the zombie kingdom, and there are no body parts here." Fang Yan said, "But even if he's not dead now, he won't be far from death."

"No one can spend a night in a central area filled with zombies."

This statement practically sentenced the thirty-odd people to death, but what could they do? The Central District was so vast that even if they searched until daybreak, they might not even see a single person.

Even if we find it at daybreak, there will most likely be only a pile of corpses/body parts.

Missing the best time to search and save, this originally possible thing has become impossible. Even if Ye Miaomiao returns home now, no one will say anything.

"Search! Keep searching along the traces!" As expected and unexpected, Ye Miaomiao's resolute voice came to my ears.

Everyone looked in the direction of the voice. In the light of the electric lamp, which was not bright enough due to the underdeveloped technology, the girl's dark pupils were firm, and she had no intention of retreating at all.

"What a bullshit zombie kingdom!" Ye Miaomiao, perhaps influenced by Li Yihan, spoke bluntly, "Is a disaster worthy of causing us to lose more than 30 people? Use all the props we got these days when we encounter zombies! We have plenty in stock, use them freely!"

"We must find them as soon as possible!"

The night gradually deepened.

Around ten o'clock in the evening, the people who were searching hard tried several possible places, but all were empty, and they felt more and more desperate.

With a "bang", the LED on one side suddenly lit up, and the entire area lit up.

I'm Peeta. Guo Ruiming's team and Arthur's team are with me. We're trapped in the innermost room on the left of the lab's top floor. The zombies blocking our path aren't just ordinary zombies. They're strange-looking, with wings, and appear to be able to fly. They're incredibly dangerous!

[I've hacked into the traffic system and can monitor this area through surveillance. I'll use streetlights to guide you. The route will avoid the zombies as much as possible and lead directly to the laboratory. Please proceed with caution!]

The large words on the billboard made everyone unable to believe it at first.

Then, on the dim path, lights came on one after another, making everything impossible possible!

What an unbelievable thing this is.

Everyone stared at the bright streetlights in amazement, including Fang Yan, who believed the thirty people were undoubtedly dead and had already thought of how to comfort Ye Miaomiao.

"Get your weapons and gear ready, and let's go!"

With the help of the signpost lights, it only took about twenty minutes to drive there.

Finally they arrived at the mysterious laboratory. Although they had wanted to find out what was going on, no one expected that they would be forced to go there in the middle of the night.

"Be alert!" Without Ye Miaomiao's reminder, everyone had already formed a line.

The gatekeepers guard the gate, the explorers explore the way, the guards on both wings check if there are any missed zombies, and even the temporary team quickly integrates into the team according to their division of labor.

Take note of the lab map and head straight to the seventh floor.

There were very few zombies on the road. It was not until the seventh floor, when I pushed open the soundproof door of the corridor, that I heard waves of terrifying roars and banging on the door. The fishy smell was so chilling.

"Should we just charge in?" Li Yihan, the reckless man, was eager to try after sneaking into one of the rooms. "My skill, Telekinesis, can pull out anything within a specific square. All we have to do is find a way to get them to stand together!"

"But it has to be within ten meters. We rush over and just hold out for five or six minutes!"

Ye Miaomiao shook her head: "Not really."

On the way, everyone discussed that the zombies Peeta described were at least Class B. Without the protection of buildings, how could humans face them? This wasn't a movie.

Fifty or sixty minutes? Even thirty seconds would be enough for it to kill several people.

"What should we do then..." The team members looked at Ye Miaomiao, "Do we have to sacrifice a few people?"

"No," Fang Yan said without a doubt. How could someone who could go deep into the laboratory to save others voluntarily let others die?

Knowing this well, he waited quietly for Ye Miaomiao's decision without explaining.

"I already had an idea, but that method doesn't work." Ye Miaomiao pondered for a moment, "Yihan's skills can make it easier for us."

She took out the offensive items first and placed them on the ground.

Just as everyone was puzzled by this move, she explained, "Telekinesis, why not just take the monster over and place it on top of a pile of attack items? At that moment, we can collectively activate our attack items and use our weapons to deal damage at the same time."

"I don't know how strong a B-level zombie is, and I don't know if it will die after all this. So, the best way is to run away after defeating it, and don't look back!"

"It'd be best if it's dead. If it's not, it'll come after us. Fang Yan and I will cover the rear, and you guys go get the remaining attack props from the car and put them in the first floor lobby. Once we lure it over, we'll explode it and deal it more damage."

"If it's still alive after the patching, just get in the car and run. Even if it's still alive at this point, it can't hold on any longer."

The arrangements were simple and clear, and even a way out was planned.

Fang Yan looked at Ye Miaomiao with appreciation: "I'm fine." Everyone's hearts also settled down. No one would die, no one would be injured. All they had to do was trigger the props and then run away.

"Boss, be careful. Captain Fang, you too."

Everyone quickly threw all their tools and props to the ground. Some people wanted to stay and "die bravely", but Ye Miaomiao quickly persuaded them to leave.

One of them is Li Yihan.

Her eyes were filled with tears. “I still have a small skill. The shield value is as much as fifty drops of health. Let me stay. If you lose it, what will I do?”

"Yes! The territory cannot do without you!"

Several team members nearby also looked determined, fearing that the two most important people in the territory would die in the next second.

Ye Miaomiao: “…” There’s no need to be so pessimistic.

She silently turned on the light screen, switched to her personal page, and then clicked visible to everyone.

The "huge" HP value instantly blinded everyone. They rubbed their eyes in disbelief, but the number was still unimaginable.

In comparison, Li Yihan's fifty-drop blood shield is really a small skill.

"Is this the amount of human blood? This is a wall!" someone murmured.

Then, Fang Yan followed Ye Miaomiao's lead and opened the light screen. Although his HP was not as high as expected, his attributes were still far higher than those of ordinary people, even those who had increased their attributes several times.

High, really too high.

Everyone was speechless and silently handed over the various shield props they were wearing.

Ye Miaomiao did not refuse and accepted them all. Being absolutely sure of nothing going wrong is the prudent operation of a farming player.

"I can heal you, so don't dodge my arrows." Finally, Ye Miaomiao instructed Fang Yan, "Just let me hit him. I'll take the damage and draw the aggro. Remember to run fast."

The two looked at each other, with unexpected tacit understanding.

"Prepare for action!"
