Refusing to declare death

Refusing to declare death

There was a suffocating silence in the control room.

Where did Civilization come from?

Ye Miaomiao had long harbored this suspicion. She'd always taken it for granted that Civilization came from the stars. But starting with the high-level catastrophe—a calamity that, in the game's setting, devastated the entire galaxy—she realized a terrifying truth: Civilization might not be from the stars.

The most obvious evidence is that Civilization reversed time, resulting in the seasonal order of "winter, autumn, summer, and spring." This is also the seasonal order of the Balsam people and other interstellar beings. If they can all be influenced by Civilization, how could it possibly have originated from them?

Now, Ye Miaomiao may have found some clues.

The group parked the spaceship on the next planet, put on their mechas and began to explore.

However, perhaps due to the passage of time, the papers here have decayed and the computers have been completely destroyed, leaving no useful information behind. The only remaining text is a set of stairs ascending the planet's only high mountain. On either side of the stairs, the history of this planet is succinctly engraved.

"In the first year of the new century, our great leader led us to reclaim wasteland and build wooden houses. We crafted bows and arrows for hunting and shields to repel monsters. We survived, in this new land!"

"In the second year of the new century, the great leader brought fire, and we began to farm, weave, herd livestock, and build walls and watchtowers. We began to wear clothes, and we no longer suffered from cold and hunger."

"The third year of the new century..."

This is all ordinary history, and has nothing to do with "Civilization". Ye Miaomiao was thinking about it when the team member next to him chuckled -

"Can this leader be so powerful?"

He pointed to a stone tablet inscribed with the words, "In the tenth year of the new century, the great leader moved a mountain, leaving a river on the mountain. From then on, we no longer suffered from drought."

Ye Miaomiao: “…” It does sound like bragging.

She no longer focused on what the "great leader" had done, but instead searched in detail for clues related to "Civilization". When she was almost at the top of the mountain, she finally saw a stone slab.

"New Century, Chapter... We finally..." Most of the text was deliberately crossed out. "We will launch the Civilization Project according to the instructions of our great leader. Everything will return to the beginning, and we will become the newly born void, achieving eternal life and happiness in the castle we build."

Ye Miaomiao could understand all these words, but when they were put together, they were a bit confusing. She continued to read, but no stone tablet mentioned "Civilization" again.

She sorted out the clues she had so far. Judging from the slate, this race was a rapidly developing technology. They created the game "Civilization," which later saved human civilization. They were also part of the void, and their mission required Ye Miaomiao to devour it. Was this also a form of cause and effect?

"I declare that I occupy this planet?" Ye Miaomiao raised her voice with some hesitation.

Her understanding of devouring meant taking over every blade of grass and tree here. But after she said this, no prompt appeared in the system. Based on her experience completing side quests, this was unusual. It seemed her thinking was wrong, perhaps she hadn't found the key clue to unlock the quest yet.

"Boss, it's eleven o'clock at night. Should we rest and prepare for exploration tomorrow?" asked the team member.

Ye Miaomiao frowned and replied, "Okay."

Unfortunately, the next day, everyone still had no clues, and the [Summoning of the Void] mission on the light screen was still in a pending state.

"If we still don't find anything today, let's leave a small team here to continue exploring. There are more and more aliens attacking our galaxy, and I have to hurry back." Ye Miaomiao sighed.

Unfortunately, on the third night, there was still no gain.

The spaceship had to carry regrets and return to the hungry hungry place.

.

"Under attack near Antarctica, requesting support!"

"Damn it! There are ten spaceships coming at us so aggressively! We only have eight, we have to fight them to the death!"

"Aliens have appeared near the East Ocean. Requesting support!"

A newly assigned spacecraft operator was almost in tears: "Why are there more and more attacking aliens every day? Where in the universe can so many aliens hide?"

"Stop yelling!" A team leader of the sentry tower guards patted the spaceship operator on the head. "What are you afraid of? Show me your spirit and your skills in piloting a ship! You're not afraid of death, so why are you afraid of these aliens?"

Behind him stood a row of soldiers, including newbies who were on duty for the first time, semi-newbies who had fought two or three times, and experienced veterans, but without exception, there was a determination gleam in their eyes.

"We must drive these beasts off our planet!"

"Whoever prevents us from completing our ultimate mission will die!"

Amidst simple slogans, the team leader quickly finalized the battle plan: "Everyone, coordinate with each other. If we can't achieve anything, retreat first and wait for support from the hungry troops. As the saying goes, as long as the green mountains remain, there will be no fear of running out of firewood. Death is not a big deal, what is scary is dying without completing the game! We must do our best and play our best role!"

"yes!"

War raged everywhere, and the Hungry Hungry armies were also busy. Following patrol reports, the First Army dispatched to annihilate the alien forces. The Second Army patrolled the planet, ready to provide support. The Third Army, slightly weaker, was replenishing its ranks and intensifying training to familiarize itself with the new weaponry sent from Balsam Planet. The three armies rotated their missions, though this wasn't expected to change anytime soon.

When Ye Miaomiao returned to the starship, the Hungry Hungry Army had just returned from their expedition. The team members excitedly discussed, "We were really lucky this time! We encountered an alien that was just our counter. It increased our stats quite a bit, and we even got a lot of rewards!"

"It would be great if it could be like this every time. I heard from Commander Ming and his team that an old soldier on the sentry tower was injured while saving someone. He's now been sent to the hospital, and we don't know if he can be saved."

The smile that had just risen in the other person also faded. "Human life is like this, so fragile. If I die that day, remember to resurrect me. If I don't revive, please revive my parents. Even if I can't see them, I'll be happy just thinking that they are still alive."

"What bullshit are you talking about! I'll definitely save you, so worry about your parents yourself!"

The slight sadness of the rabbit's death quickly dissipated, and the two of them returned to the dormitory, chatting and laughing. After a day of rest and a day of training, they would soon be heading out for the next expedition.

Hungry hungry hungry hospital.

After Ye Miaomiao returned to the starship, she did not check the supplies confiscated by the Eyi Army, but instead went to see the wounded first.

His condition was even more serious than the two team members had described. Half his body had been blown apart, a truly horrific sight. Before the apocalypse, he would have died instantly. Fortunately, he had nanobots injected into his body, but they wouldn't keep him alive for much longer.

Sadly, according to the current medical level, there is no way to save this person, even the doctor shook his head.

"It's all my fault! It's all my fault!" Beside him, the new recruit he had saved burst into tears. He couldn't imagine that the senior who always called him a rookie and never had a good face would die trying to save him. His last words before closing his eyes were to encourage him to keep going.

There were also several family members crying silently. They looked more like friends than relatives.

"Blame me." Mingyi shook his head, feeling extremely heavy in his heart.

This was the largest war since the launch of the Ultimate Mission. After three hours of arduous battle, they finally achieved victory, but at a heavy price—her first death in her career as a leader. More precisely, the first death since the launch of the Ultimate Mission. It was for this reason that the three commanders of the Hungry Hungry Army, along with Ye Miaomiao, were already standing here. This was a problem they had to face.

"Do your best to save him!" Ye Miaomiao said in a deep voice - she refused to declare the man dead.

In the sterile ward, doctors have begun preparing for surgery. The case has also been sent to professors of related disciplines, hoping they can find a way to treat this patient within their own fields.

Time ticked by, and the heavy faces of the people outside the ward gradually turned numb and sad. The silent seats carried countless prayers. A nurse brought bags of bread and mineral water, but they tasted like chewing wax and no one could eat them.

With a "Ding Dong" sound, as Ye Miaomiao's light screen sounded, the light outside the operating room turned green.

The doctor came out of the ward and shook his head sadly.

Ye Miaomiao turned on the light screen and saw Professor Guozi, whom she had high hopes for. "Energy stones are not omnipotent. He is too seriously injured. Even if I use bionic technology, it cannot delay the death of his soul. In this case, even the most advanced hospital in the galaxy can probably only preserve his brain wave data and revive him in a bionic or mechanical body in the future."

Ye Miaomiao turned off the light screen and walked to the glass window in front of the ward. The curtains were drawn open and the person inside had completely stopped breathing.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." She lowered her head and spoke softly to the family.

"No, Lord." The family member stood up with tears streaming down his face. "We must complete the game. We must bring him back. He's still young, only twenty-four! He's not that great, and he's still willing to die for others. How can we let a fool like him go like this?"

"I'll try my best." Ye Miaomiao promised.

Mingyi saluted demurely, her hand trembling as if weighed down by a thousand pounds, pressing down on the brim of her hat. "I promise you, we will definitely complete the game."

When Ye Miaomiao walked out of the ward, there was cheering on the other side.

This time, a lot of resources were seized from the bionic aliens, part of which were bionic leg blueprints and finished products.

A soldier whose leg was blown off had a genetic match with a readily available bionic leg, so surgery could be performed immediately to reattach the leg. Ye Miaomiao finally smiled, and her heavy steps slowed down.

With thirty-eight days left, she might still have a chance to see the deceased again.
