Chapter 60 Helping the Principal to Coax His Pet

Very magical.

"Is this... a mirror that reflects the soul?"

Kyle resisted the urge to take a look and turned his gaze elsewhere.

"It seems you recognized the Mirror of Erised."

Dumbledore appeared behind Kyle at some point and said gently, "I'm glad you were able to resist its temptation, which is something many adult wizards cannot do.

People always waste their time in front of it, become obsessed with what they see, and even driven crazy by it. "

"I just don't want to cause more trouble, Principal." Kyle turned around and smiled, "I'm quite satisfied with my current life."

“A wise choice.”

Dumbledore walked around Kyle, came to the mirror, gently stroked the golden frame and said, "I must admit that you have surpassed me, an old man, in this regard, because even I can't help but look at it sometimes."

"So what did you see when you looked in the mirror?" Kyle asked at the right moment, "The true meaning of magic? Or a more profound theory?"

"You're making me blush, Kyle."

"I may not be as great as you think, because I see myself holding a pair of thick wool socks."

"There are never enough socks," Dumbledore said with a wink. "Christmas came and went, and I didn't get a single pair of socks, and people insisted on giving me books."

Kyle had reason to suspect that Dumbledore was hinting at him to give a gift. After all, it was less than two months until Christmas.

Just when Kyle was wondering whether to express his gratitude, Dumbledore had already returned to his desk and ordered himself a cup of black tea and a plate full of sugar cubes.

"Want something to drink, Kyle?"

"Lemonade, please."

Dumbledore nodded, and soon there was a large glass of lemonade on the table.

Kyle took a sip and found that it tasted just like ordinary lemonade, and it didn't taste any different just because he was in the principal's office.

After he finished a whole glass of lemonade, Dumbledore opposite him was still leisurely sipping his tea, with no intention of speaking at all.

The portraits of past principals on the wall were also very quiet; they were all snoring softly in their respective frames, but occasionally someone would half open their eyes and secretly look at him.

In this atmosphere, Kyle just felt uncomfortable all over.

Just at this moment, the whistle of a Quidditch match was heard outside the window.

Kyle calmed himself down and asked first, "Principal, what do you want to talk to me about?"

"Look at me, I was so busy drinking tea that I almost forgot about the important matter."

Dumbledore slapped his forehead, stood up and took Kyle to a tall gilded perch behind the door.

Standing there was a fiery red phoenix, namely Fox.

"Fawkes has been angry with me recently." Dumbledore said distressedly, "But I don't know why. Can you help me ask?"

"Is that so?"

Kyle understood and turned to look at Fawkes. He knew that the phoenix must understand what Dumbledore had just said.

Fawkes glanced at Kyle, then turned his gaze to Dumbledore. An expression of disgust clearly appeared on the bird's face, and it cried reluctantly.

"What did it say?" Dumbledore asked curiously.

Although he was a language genius and could even teach himself snake language and goblin language, the language of the phoenix was different. The language of this ancient creature was very obscure and even he found it difficult to fully understand.

In addition, the angry Fox seemed to speak with an accent, which made it even more difficult for him to understand.

Kyle considered his words and said, "Principal, Fox told you not to put cockroaches in its food anymore."

Dumbledore's expression was somewhat incredulous. "I always thought it would like that very much."

When Fawkes heard what Dumbledore said, he turned around angrily and faced him with his butt.

It's a phoenix, not a chicken, so how could it like insects?

Dumbledore also realized that something was wrong and quickly apologized, trying to make up for his mistake.

But Fawkes ignored him. No matter where Dumbledore went, he would change direction at the first opportunity, leaving him with a butt. He even covered his head with his wings and didn't listen to what he said at all.

In the end, it was Kyle who contributed his own dill leaves and a bluebell, which barely appeased the angry Fox.

Don't get me wrong, this bluebell was not taken by Kyle from the lounge, but was a prize for helping Professor Sprout clean the greenhouse.

It’s a pity that it was gone before it even got warm.

Kyle felt so distressed when he saw Fox swallowing it in just a few bites.

"I knew I was right to find you."

Dumbledore patted Kyle's shoulder happily and said, "If it weren't for you, it would probably take me a while to coax it."

"It's nothing, Headmaster." Kyle forced a smile and said, "Anything else? If not, I want to go watch the Quidditch game."

Kyle touched his transformed lizard skin bag. He didn't want to stay even a minute longer.

What if Fawkes felt he didn't have enough and started making trouble again? He was just a first-year wizard and he didn't have any extra herbs to waste.

Besides, the phoenix doesn't belong to him, so let Dumbledore solve it himself.

"There is just one more small matter. Don't worry, it won't take up too much of your time." Dumbledore turned around and took out a bottle of potion from the drawer behind the table.

"This is the demon-suppressing potion for Mikel."

Dumbledore explained, "Originally I wanted Madam Pomfrey to bring it to him, but I don't think he would want to go to the infirmary. Since you are here, you can take it back with you."

Kyle took the potion and couldn't help asking, "Principal, has Mikel not yet learned to control his magic power?"

"This is not an easy task." Dumbledore thought for a moment and said, "But Pomona said that he is making rapid progress. When he reaches the second year, he should no longer need the Suppressant Potion."

Kyle nodded.

"Remember," Dumbledore warned, "I know that the magic suppressant potion brewed by Professor Snape may not be so delicious, but it is very important to Mikel. So you must make sure that he really drinks it, instead of just pouring the potion out somewhere."

"Don't worry, Principal. Mikel is my roommate." Kyle smiled and said, "I will make sure he finishes the drink."

"Then I'm relieved." Dumbledore picked up the cup of tea again, "Go watch the game, it shouldn't be over yet."
