Chapter 609 He Gave Too Much

This is the first time that Hogwarts students have seen the same Defense Against the Dark Arts professor for two consecutive school years... but this is only true for students below sixth year.

Last year their professor was Moody, so strictly speaking, Sirius was their sixth professor, and still an annual one.

But due to Sirius' legendary experience, the classroom was full of people early on.

"I asked Justin." Sitting in his seat, Mikel took out his textbook from his bag with anticipation, "He told me that Sirius's class is very interesting, but sometimes some unpleasant things happen."

"Not very happy?" Kanna frowned and asked, "Does he assign a lot of homework?"

Although Sirius had taught Moody a few classes last school year, the content he taught was all decided by Moody in advance, and he also reviewed what he had learned before.

So no one knows much about his teaching style.

"No, quite the opposite." Mikel shook his head. "As far as I know, he rarely gives homework. I envied him for a long time last year."

"Then why is it unpleasant?"

"Because it will hurt." Ryan added at the side.

Just as he was speaking, the door of the classroom was pushed open and Sirius walked in from outside.

He seemed quite happy and not at all bothered by having to take three more grades.

"Hello, everyone." Sirius waved his wand to open the curtains, and the bright sunlight illuminated the classroom.

"I don't think I need to introduce myself." He smiled and said, "Put your books away. You won't need them in the first class."

Everyone put away their books immediately, and Mikel was the fastest. He has always believed that any professor who asks students to put away their books in the first class is a good professor.

"I have learned about your progress from Professor Moody."

Sirius continued, “I have to admit that he is indeed a good professor, as can be seen from your OWL results.

"Almost everyone got a good score. Even Professor Marchban, who was in charge of the exam, was surprised... She probably didn't expect that the subjects with the lowest scores in previous years would have so many high scores this year."

Everyone straightened their backs subconsciously.

Although Professor Moody is very strict and the homework is daunting, their progress is real.

Some people's grades even jumped directly from A (pass) to O (excellent), and they successfully obtained a certificate.

"But... I am your professor this year." Sirius changed the subject, "And I always believe that the essence of Defense Against the Dark Arts lies in actual practice, not in grades.

"Dark magic is varied and ever-changing. When you really face it, you will find that the knowledge in textbooks is not enough. You can only deal with it with instinct and excellent reaction ability."

Everyone stared at Sirius, his face was very serious and there was no joking in his tone.

"Therefore, before you actually encounter the black magic, you must be clear about your own shortcomings."

"The fastest way... is to let you experience it for yourself." Sirius pulled out his wand. "Lockhart's dueling club is a good idea, but it was cancelled after only one session. If this club could have persisted until now, it would definitely have greatly improved your strength."

"But it's not too late now."

Sirius went around to the other side of the classroom and cleared all the clutter piled in the corner out of the room.

“I believe actual combat is far more useful than any preaching, so duels are essential in the following classes, and you’d better prepare in advance.

"I will do my best to protect you from getting hurt, but sometimes I won't be able to take care of you. If any of you don't want to participate, you can just ask now and I will agree."

Everyone's eyes turned to him, and no one backed down. Instead, they became more excited.

Seeing that no one raised their hands to quit, Sirius nodded with satisfaction, "Very good, I knew you would make the right choice... Now, we have to make some small adjustments to the classroom."

He asked all the students to stand up, and then directed the tables, chairs, benches and other things to fly out of the window in a line, leaving no room even for the podium.

Sirius had originally chosen the largest classroom, and now that it was tidied up, it looked even bigger.

Then he used his magic wand to create a platform of moderate size under his feet.

“In the first class, we will not learn new content, but check your practical ability.

"Everyone has five minutes. No matter what spell you use, as long as you can get my feet off the platform, you will get a reward of ten points."

When they heard that there were points to be won, everyone's eyes became even more excited and they all squeezed to the front, fearing that they would be left last and run out of time.

"Professor, I'm here."

"I am the man who will become a duel master in the future!"

The classroom was noisy. Sirius looked around and finally stopped at Kyle.

"Kyle, how about you come?"

"No problem." Kyle stepped forward.

He glanced at the platform under Sirius' feet, "As long as I can make you fall from here, it'll be fine, right?"

"That's right...but you're not." Sirius shook his head and took the initiative to walk down from the stage. "I think it's necessary to let everyone know that this is not a game."

"I see." Kyle nodded and took out his wand as well.

Seeing this, everyone else fell silent.

I don’t know who was the first to run to the corner, but with his leadership, a large space was soon cleared around the two of them.

Kyle confronted Sirius with his wand in hand. The duel started suddenly without the complicated etiquette that Lockhart had instructed.

A spell was cast by Sirius without warning.

But the next second, it bounced back at an even faster speed.

"Oh, beautiful..."

Sirius quickly bent down to avoid it. To be honest, he didn't even know when Kyle used the Shield Charm on him.

But just as Sirius bent down, a row of sharp stone spikes suddenly jumped out from the ground.

Fortunately, Sirius reacted quickly enough and blew the stone cones into powder with a slight movement of his wand.

But it wasn't over yet. The fragments of the stone cones on the ground suddenly began to wriggle and turned into hounds of varying sizes, running towards Kyle and trying to bite his wand.

Kyle took two steps back calmly and pointed his wand at the hairpins, multi-flavored beans and other things that had fallen off when he moved the desk just now.

The next second, Sirius's hunting dogs were blocked by a group of shrunken Norwegian Spinosaurus, and they started biting each other.

Taking this opportunity, Sirius stood up again and couldn't help but praise: "Excellent Transfiguration... Hufflepuff gets twenty points."

While speaking, he did not forget to cast two other spells, and at the same time, when no one else could see, he winked at Kyle frantically.

Kyle's mouth twitched twice. He had just finished warming up, and this guy wanted to cheat? Wasn't this a bit too much?

But looking at Sirius who was making faces crazily, Kyle sighed. Well, they were in class after all and time was limited, so they naturally couldn't drag it out too long.

So Kyle took the initiative to remove his armor spell, and when he was hit by a "Clean Up" spell, he stumbled back several steps.

"Not bad, really good." Sirius put away his wand and clapped his hands. "I have to say you are the best little wizard I have ever seen. Add another thirty points for Hufflepuff."

Amidst applause, Kyle returned to the crowd.

"Can the cleansing spell also work in a duel?" Kanna asked in a low voice.

"You figured it out?" Kyle asked in surprise, "It seems Sirius didn't recite the spell just now."

"I noticed," Connor pointed at Kyle's robes, "at breakfast, an owl knocked over the bottle of pumpkin juice, and some of it splashed on you.

"But now the pumpkin juice has disappeared."

"Okay." Kyle shrugged. "The cleansing spell is useless, but the situation just now is special. We can't spend a whole class fighting."

"So you just gave in on purpose?"

"I can't help it. He gave me too much... a full fifty points."

"Well, that's quite a lot." Kanna couldn't help but laugh out loud.
