Chapter 709: Armor Curse, Lost Sirius

The letter was not particularly long. Apart from greetings, the actual part about spells took up less than two pages of parchment. However, the content was obscure and difficult to understand. Even with the comparison chart given by Dumbledore, Kyle had to ponder it over and over again.

At the same time, he took out his wand and tried various combinations of magic runes.

Dots of magic symbols floated out from the magic wand and gathered together to form new symbols. Faintly, there seemed to be a layer of transparent net around Kyle, but it soon shattered and disappeared.

"No, not this..." Kyle frowned and flipped through the translation chart quickly.

Because he was so focused, Kyle didn't even notice that the sky outside had already become brighter.

Before he knew it, Kyle had been sitting at the table for the entire evening.

Until noon the next day...

Fred, who had just returned from Diagon Alley for lunch, looked at the empty chair in front of him and couldn't help asking, "By the way, how long has Kyle been in the room?"

"Almost all day," said Harry. "He left the light on in his room last night, and he didn't come out for breakfast this morning."

"What on earth is he doing?" George asked.

"I don't know," said Ron. "We tried to get him this morning, but Mum and Sirius wouldn't let us."

"This is what Dumbledore told me before he left." At this time, Mrs. Weasley put a plate of toast on the table, "If there is nothing important, don't disturb Kyle."

"I know, and you've said it many times," Ron muttered under his breath.

"Then you must remember that." Mrs. Weasley glared at Ron, then looked at the stairs outside the door with some concern.

Obviously she was also a little worried about Kyle who hadn't eaten for a day.

"But it's only been less than a day, so it should be fine." Mrs. Weasley thought to herself. Because of Dumbledore's instructions, she could only wait for Kyle to come out.

This wait lasted another afternoon.

It was not until half past seven, when everyone was getting ready for dinner, that Kyle staggered down from upstairs.

Diana said yesterday that the contents of the parchment would only last for one day.

I have to say, this is really on time.

Just now, the contents on the parchment disappeared in an instant, along with his memory of the ancient runes.

But there is good news.

Although the process disappears, the result remains.

It felt like taking an exam. He couldn't remember the contents of the test paper, nor what he had written, but the final result was real... and it was a very good result.

But after he suddenly relaxed, Kyle, who hadn't eaten for a day, felt dizzy and his vision was shaky.

When Kyle finally came downstairs to the dining room, Mrs. Weasley had just placed a plate of baked pies on the table.

Kyle didn't care about the heat or politeness, he just picked up a pie and stuffed it into his mouth.

"You're finally out." Mrs. Weasley breathed a sigh of relief and served Kyle another bowl of soup. "Eat slowly, don't be in a hurry. I made a lot."

Kyle ate three pieces of pie and drank two bowls of soup, and then he felt better, but only less hungry.

It has to be said that studying ancient runes is really a very physically demanding job. He felt like he hadn't eaten for three days, not just one day.

"Kyle, what are you doing in the room?" Ron couldn't help but ask.

"Studying Merlin's letter." Kyle said casually.

As the contents on the parchment disappeared, the strange restrictions from before also disappeared. For example, now he could naturally tell what he was doing without being unable to speak like he did last night.

"Merlin's letter?" Hermione's voice became shrill and high. "That was written by someone fifteen hundred years ago."

"It's not the original letter." Kyle explained: "It was copied using magic."

"Could it be the one your mother gave you last night..." Hermione immediately thought of the birthday gift Diana gave Kyle last night.

She thought of many possibilities, advanced spells, ancient documents...but she never thought it was related to Merlin.

"Can you let me take a look?" Hermione stared at Kyle hopefully, "Just one look."

"Sorry, the letter was protected by magic and disappeared just now." Kyle shrugged and picked up another piece of pie. "And I forgot what was written on it. I only remember that it was written in ancient runes that had not been simplified."

"Ancient runes, simplified?" Hermione looked bewildered.

She really couldn't associate those words, which were so complicated that they made her dizzy at a glance, with simplification.

"It's this..." Kyle casually handed the book that Dumbledore gave him to Hermione.

Hermione's brows furrowed as soon as she opened the first page.

Harry and Ron also looked over curiously, but the next second, they both looked away at the same time.

They didn't recognize a single symbol on that page, and looking at it for more than a second gave them a headache. It was hard to imagine how Kyle had spent the entire day reading it.

"Wait..." Fred suddenly thought of something, "You just said you forgot the content. Doesn't this mean you've wasted a whole day?"

"Of course not." Kyle swallowed the last bite of pie and took another piece of baked potato. "It was a teaching letter, probably written by Merlin to his apprentice. I have already learned the magic mentioned in it."

There was a sudden gasp in the restaurant, and everyone looked at each other, not knowing what to say for a moment.

Finally it was Fred and George who broke the silence.

"What is the spell?"

“Is it very powerful?”

The two asked at the same time.

"It's a kind of armor spell," Kyle said. "It's not very powerful. It's mainly used to protect yourself."

Fred and George looked a little disappointed. Merlin's magic should be powerful and devastating, and it would be best if it could directly eliminate Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

"I think the Shield Charm is the best." Mrs. Weasley glanced at them and then said to Kyle, "Diana must want you to protect your own safety, so she found this for you."

"That's right." Mr. Weasley also agreed: "That's Merlin's letter. I've never heard of anyone getting such a thing. It must be very valuable."

"Maybe Professor Dumbledore has seen it too." Ginny said beside her, "Remember what he said last night? He seemed to understand Kyle's situation at the time and what he needed. I think he must have experienced it himself."

"But how many Dumbledores are there in the wizarding world?" said Mr. Weasley.

"Can we see the effect?" At this time, Sirius, who had been silent, suddenly said, "Of course, if it's inconvenient, forget it."

"It's just a spell, it's not inconvenient." Kyle said indifferently: "But can it wait a while? I'm not full yet."

"Of course," said Sirius.

Now everyone was interested and looking forward to seeing the magic from fifteen hundred years ago. With such anticipation, they couldn't even eat and just hoped that time would pass faster.

But the most important thing is that Kyle was not in a hurry at all and continued to eat his dinner slowly.

When everyone put down their cutlery, Kyle devoured the remaining three pies.

In addition, there were two potatoes, five bowls of soup, and a plate of sausages and bread that Mrs. Weasley had fried on the spur of the moment because she was afraid there wouldn't be enough food.

Ginny's eyes were wide open. She felt that the food Kyle prepared was enough for her to eat for three days.

"Is it really okay for Kyle to eat like this?" she asked subconsciously.

"That's normal." Lupin explained, "Kyle should have learned rune magic. Using this kind of magic is a double test of energy and physical strength.

"If you choose the Ancient Runes course, you will find that after each class, you will eat a lot more than usual."

"That's true..." Ginny muttered softly, "But Kyle eats too much."

"It's okay. A little wizard of his age has an amazing appetite." Charlie recalled, "I was the same back then. I could eat five pies at a time. My mother was always worried that there wasn't enough food at home."

As if to verify his words, or perhaps because he felt hungry after watching Kyle eat, Charlie was about to pick up the toast in front of him and prepare to eat another round.

But just as he stretched out his hand, he was hit by Mrs. Weasley.

"Mom, you are too partial." Charlie couldn't help but complain.

"Kyle hasn't eaten all day." Mrs. Weasley said without turning her head.

Five minutes later, Kyle finished another bowl of soup and finally put down his cutlery.

There was also a glimmer of anticipation in the eyes of others.

"Need a break?" Sirius asked.

"No need." Kyle shook his head. "I'm only 70% full, just enough for some exercise."

How to put it, she felt that compared to ancient magic, Kyle's appetite was even more incredible.

Then Sirius stood up and walked towards the door.

"Come with me, I'll take you to the basement. There's a room for brewing potions there that will come in handy."

"Okay." Kyle naturally had no objection, he stood up and was about to walk out.

However, at this moment, a red light suddenly flashed before his eyes.

"Expelliarmus!"

Sirius, who was standing at the door, had taken out his wand at some point and was pointing it squarely at Kyle.

This sudden scene frightened Mrs. Weasley so much that she screamed. Ron subconsciously stepped back and stepped hard on Hermione who was reading a book. Hermione knocked Harry down in pain.

The whole restaurant was in chaos in an instant.

However, Kyle, who was pointed at by the magic wand, was not affected at all and just stood there.

Sirius's disarming spell flew less than an inch in front of him before being blocked by a silver shield.

The spell bounced back at an even faster speed, and Sirius was caught off guard, his wand spinning and flying out.

By the time he reacted, the wand was already in Kyle's hand.

"You didn't say you wanted to launch a sneak attack." Kyle returned the wand to Sirius.

"Death Eaters won't fight you fair and square," said Sirius.

He looked at the wand Kyle handed over, his eyes still a little dazed, as if he found it hard to accept that he had lost.

For a wizard, losing his wand means losing the ability to resist. If Kyle was the enemy, he would have died for sure.

He was considered a prominent figure in Hogwarts, but he unexpectedly lost to a seventh-year student twenty years later.

For some reason, Sirius felt a sense of loss.

As an old friend, Lupin was the first to notice his abnormality and comforted him: "You don't think you can beat Kyle.

“If it was five years ago, it would be fine, but now… don’t you think too highly of yourself?

"And didn't you lose to Kyle once when you just escaped from prison three years ago? So much time has passed, haven't you accepted this fact yet?"

Or maybe he was a friend, because every word Lupin said hit Sirius' heart accurately, and he did so repeatedly, sprinkling salt on him.

"Shut up, Remus." Sirius' face flushed, and he gritted his teeth and said, "This is just a simple test. It doesn't prove anything."

He originally wanted to regain a little dignity for himself, but this action not only failed to stop Lupin, but made the other party laugh even more happily.

The Sirius he knew had always been very free and easy, or to put it bluntly, heartless, a typical Gryffindor.

At least until Voldemort's fall.

So Lupin rarely saw Sirius with the confused look he had just shown.

But it is understandable. Although this is just a simple test and does not prove anything, it is hard to accept that a student who just turned seventeen lost his wand so easily.

He certainly wasn't going to spar with Kyle anyway.

Sirius's face became redder and redder, and now even the other people in the room couldn't help but twitch their lips.

In order to change the subject, Sirius turned his gaze to Kyle again.

Only then did he realize that the shield that blocked his disarming spell did not disappear, but still existed.

The Shield Charm will disappear after rebounding the opponent's spell. If you want to continue using it, you must release a second spell. This is common sense and the characteristic of the Shield Charm itself. Even Dumbledore is no exception.

But the scene before him broke this characteristic.

Looking at the silver shield that was vaguely visible, Sirius always felt that it looked familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere.

Oh, right, at the Ministry of Magic! Sirius suddenly remembered that Voldemort and Dumbledore had used such a shield when they fought at the Ministry of Magic before, and Kyle seemed to want to learn it at that time.

"You learned it?" Sirius couldn't help but said, "You-Know-Who's Shield Charm."

"They are different." Kyle glanced at the shield in front of him, shook his head and said, "The spell used by the mysterious man is a real shield, but mine is just a concrete form of the spell, and the shape is not fixed."

As he spoke, Kyle waved his wand, and the shield in front of him immediately turned into a hexagonal magic circle with complex magic runes flashing on it, which looked very high-end at first glance.

Then the magic circle turned into a honeycomb-like net, Kyle's own appearance, Sirius's appearance... and then turned back into a shield.

"This should be the effect of a combination of magic words. I forgot what it is specifically." Kyle continued: "It gives the Iron Armor Spell a more comprehensive protective effect, and also makes this spell materialized."

"What about the effect?" Lupin asked. "Does its appearance have anything to do with its defensive capabilities?"

"It has nothing to do with it," Kyle said. "It's like the style of a suit. No matter how much you change it, it has no effect on the warmth."

“If you don’t believe me, you can try it.” Kyle turned the shield in front of him into a ring.

Sirius acted as if he saw nothing and had no intention of taking any action. Lupin and Mr. Weasley also turned their heads away.

"Forget it, let me do it." Charlie held back his laughter and took out his wand.

"Expelliarmus!"

The red light of the disarming spell hit the empty space in the middle of the circle, but was still blocked back.

But because he was prepared in advance, Charlie dodged it by turning sideways in advance. Looking at the Armor Spell in front of Kyle, it was still intact.

Lupin frowned, thinking carefully.

The persistent existence of the Iron Armor Spell reminded him of another spell... Universal Protection.

This is not a spell cast by one person, but an enhanced version of the Iron Armor Spell cast by multiple wizards together. The effect is to create a protective net that will exist until the magic power disappears.

Normally, this spell is only used in war.

For example, more than a decade ago, the Aurors used the large-scale spell of Universal Protection more than once to prevent the Death Eaters who attempted to attack the Ministry of Magic from returning empty-handed.

The spell Kyle is using now is very much like a simplified version of this spell, from a spell that requires multiple people to be used, to a spell that can be used by one person.

It's a pity that he doesn't remember the process... If other people could also learn this spell, it would be much easier to deal with Death Eaters.

But soon, Lupin shook his head again.

This is the most difficult rune magic. Even if there is a process, I guess not many people can learn it... and there is a risk of being exposed when there are too many people. If the Death Eaters learn it, it will be a real problem.

After everyone saw the effect of the spell, Kyle waved his wand and the shield in front of him disappeared.

"Harry..." He turned and said, "You may have to work hard for a while."

"What?" Harry blinked, not quite understanding what Kyle meant for a moment.

"This is what I did," Kyle explained. "It's my trump card, used to surprise the Death Eaters.

"Although this may make you uncomfortable, if the mysterious person invades your consciousness again, he will most likely see what happened today."

Harry's eyes quickly dimmed. He had been trying to forget about this matter during this period of time, but he didn't expect Kyle to tell it out loud.

"I-I've been learning Occlumency," Harry whispered.

"I know," Kyle said, "I saw the book on Occlumency in your room last night.

"What I mean is that your progress is too slow. If you don't have anything important to do later, how about a special training?"

Special training?

Harry subconsciously thought of the unpleasant experience in the Room of Requirement.

"No, that's not necessary." His legs began to weaken and his body ached. "Sirius can teach me, and so can Professor Lupin, right?"

He looked at the two of them for help.

But Sirius didn't know what Harry was doing, so he just said helplessly: "I'm sorry Harry, I don't know much about brain occlumency, so I can't help you."

"Me too," said Lupin.

"In that case, it's settled then." Kyle said, "Sirius, didn't you just say there's a nice room in the basement? Let's go clean it up later, and Harry will have special training there later."

"Okay, no problem," Sirius said simply.
