Chapter 69 Cornelius Fudge

Harry and Ron went to bed as usual that night, and waited until Neville, Dean, and Seamus had stopped talking about the Chamber of Secrets and were finally asleep before they got out of bed, put their clothes back on, and put the Invisibility Cloak on both of them.

When they reached the common room, they found Ginny already sitting on the sofa waiting for them.

"Let's go to the Slytherin common room first. I've found a way to contact Mr. Riddle. He will be waiting for us at the door." Ginny said immediately.

It was not a pleasant journey through the gloomy corridors.

Harry had wandered the castle late at night many times before, but he had never seen so many people around after the sun went down. Teachers, prefects, and ghosts patrolled the corridors in pairs, looking around for anything unusual.

Although the invisibility cloak is useful, it doesn't work every time. Once, he and Ron were almost discovered by Snape. He always felt that Snape seemed to be very sensitive to the invisibility cloak.

I finally reached the Slytherin common room, but there was no one outside the door.

"Where's Riddle? Was he caught?" Ron lowered his voice and said a little worriedly. There were too many teachers patrolling tonight.

“Here it is!”

Cyrus heard their conversation and suddenly revealed his true form in the air.

"I used an Disillusionment Charm, otherwise I would have been unable to avoid the professors' observation." Following the voice, Cyrus reached out and lifted Harry's Invisibility Cloak, then frowned, "Isn't it a little small for the four of us?"

"Don't you know how to Disillusion?" Ron asked curiously.

"But I can only guarantee that I won't be discovered when I'm still. If I move, the professors will notice something is wrong." Cyrus said deliberately. Now, Malfoy's body was no longer useful.

What he wanted was Ginny! "Ginny, let me possess you. The less people we have to go, the less risk of being exposed." He said, "And in the current situation, if I keep possessing Malfoy, I'm afraid I won't be able to meet you normally at the end of the term."

Ginny didn't seem to resist at all, but showed a shy expression. But Harry was a little doubtful: "What about Malfoy?"

"I'll let him have a good sleep, and when he wakes up, he won't remember anything."

Ron looked reluctant about someone possessing his sister, but Ginny answered first: "That's it. Mr. Riddle is more powerful. He can protect you."

Cyrus quickly transferred from Malfoy's body to Ginny's, then stuffed the unconscious Malfoy back into the common room and left him there.

Then, the three of them left the castle wearing the Invisibility Cloak.

Harry and Ron both had a weird feeling. They had finally gotten used to Cyrus being Malfoy, and now he was Ginny. This feeling was too strange. But there was no time to dwell on this.

It was a starry night, and they hurried towards the lighted window of Hagrid's flat, and only when they reached his door did they take off their Invisibility Cloak.

A few seconds after they knocked, Hagrid flung the door open. They saw Hagrid pointing a crossbow at them, with Fang the hound barking loudly behind him. This startled them all. It was the first time Harry had seen Hagrid behave like this.

"Oh, it's you," Hagrid was obviously relieved, he put down his weapon and glared at them, "What are you three doing here?"

"What's that for?" Harry said as they walked into the room, pointing at the crossbow, while Cyrus tried to make his presence as invisible as possible.

"Nothing...nothing," said Hagrid vaguely. "I thought...it was all right...Sit down...I'll make some tea..."

He seemed a little uneasy, and the water in the kettle spilled and almost extinguished the fire. Then his big hand shook violently and knocked over the teapot.

"Are you all right, Hagrid? Did you hear about Hermione?"

"Oh, yes, I heard that," said Hagrid, his voice choking. He was clearly sad about Hermione's situation, but he kept looking out the window nervously, as if something even more terrible was waiting for him.

"I think you don't have to worry too much. She will be fine. She will be fine..."

He poured some cups of tea for Harry and the others, but forgot to put in the tea leaves, and was about to put a thick piece of fruit cake on a plate when there was a loud knock on the door.

Hagrid was so frightened that he dropped the fruit cake in his hand and looked panicked.

Because he knew who was knocking on the door.

"Hide quickly, it will be bad if we are discovered sneaking out." Cyrus hurriedly pulled Harry's Invisibility Cloak and put it on them all. The three of them huddled tightly behind the sofa, and Cyrus's breathing was heavier than ever.

Dumbledore is coming in.

When Hagrid saw they were all hidden, he grabbed his crossbow and yanked the door open again.

"Good evening, Hagrid."

Dumbledore walked in first, looking very serious, followed by a very strange-looking man.

The stranger was a short, stocky man with a mop of gray hair and an anxious look on his face. His clothes were a strange hodgepodge: a pinstriped suit, a bright red tie, a long black cape, and purple pointy-toed boots. Under his arm he carried a dark green top hat.

"That's my dad's boss!" Ron gasped. "Cornelly Fudge, Minister for Magic!"

"Stop talking!" Cyrus nudged Ron hard with his elbow to shut him up.

This action obviously caught Dumbledore's attention, and his blue eyes looked towards where Cyrus was hiding, and his expression became playful. But soon, he looked away as if he hadn't noticed them.

This made Cyrus wonder if Dumbledore saw him through the invisibility cloak.

But he soon thought that this was not the case. This was not an ordinary invisibility cloak. He believed that Dumbledore was probably just aware of the existence of the invisibility cloak. After all, he had studied this cloak for a long time.

But he probably didn't know how many people were under the clothes.

Hagrid turned pale and sweat began to form on his forehead. He slumped down in a chair and looked from Dumbledore to Cornelius Fudge.

"It's too bad, Hagrid," said Fudge in a quick, crisp voice. "It's too bad that we have to come. There have been four attacks on Muggles. It's too much. The Ministry must take action."

"I didn't, you know I didn't, Professor Dumbledore, sir..."

"I hope you understand, Cornelius, that I have complete trust in Hagrid," Dumbledore frowned.

"But you see, Albus," said Fudge uncomfortably, "Hagrid's record is against him. The Ministry will have to do something - the Board of Trustees has been contacted."

"But Cornelius, I still have to tell you that taking Hagrid away will do nothing."

"Look at it from my point of view," said Fudge, fiddling with his top hat. "I'm under a lot of pressure. I have to do something. If it turns out it's not Hagrid, he'll come back and there'll be nothing to say. But I have to take him away. Shouldn't I do my duty -"

"Take me away?" said Hagrid, trembling all over. "Take me where?"

"The time is very short. It's not a punishment, but a preventive measure. If we catch another person, we will release you and express our full apologies..." Fudge said to himself. Although he came here with Dumbledore to find Hagrid, he never looked Hagrid in the eye from beginning to end.

Of course he might also feel a little ashamed. After all, his current behavior was tantamount to letting Hagrid take the blame.

But this is very unreasonable.

There was a case where even if a person had a criminal record, he should not be convicted directly without evidence. This was unreasonable and illegal. You know, even after Voldemort's resurrection, none of the Death Eaters who had escaped punishment were punished without evidence.

As the chief wizard of the Wizengamot, couldn't Dumbledore stop Fudge from doing such ridiculous things?

Impossible! But although Dumbledore protested, he did nothing to stop Fudge.

Cyrus could understand Dumbledore's horror even more.
