Fifth Grade Sorting Hat Song

The Sorting Hat Song in Year Five

Long ago, I was still a new hat, and Hogwarts was not yet built. The four founders of the noble school thought they would never go their separate ways.

They were united by a common goal, and their wishes were so consistent: to build the best magic school in the world, so that their knowledge could be passed down and continued.

"We will build the school together and teach together!"

The four friends were very determined, but they never dreamed that one day they would be separated from each other.

What other friends in the world can be better than Slytherin and Gryffindor?

Unless you count another pair of best friends -

Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw?

How could such a good thing go wrong?

How could such a friendship be written off?

Alas, I witnessed this sad story with my own eyes, so I can tell you here.

Slytherin said: "The students I teach must have the purest blood."

Ravenclaw said: "The students I teach must have superior intelligence." Gryffindor

said: "The students I teach must be brave and fearless."

Hufflepuff said: "I will teach many people and treat them equally."

The first time these differences emerged, they caused a small quarrel.

Each of the four founders had a college and only recruited the young people they wanted.

The wizards Slytherin recruited were like it, with pure blood and many tricks.

Only those with the sharpest minds could listen to Ravenclaw's teachings.

If anyone was bold and fearless and loved adventure, he would be accepted into the college by the brave Gryffindor.

The rest were accepted by the kind-hearted Hufflepuff, who taught them all her skills.

In this way, a strong and sincere friendship was maintained.

In those many happy years, the teaching at Hogwarts was pleasant and harmonious.

But then slowly a split began to form, fueled by our shortcomings and fears.

The four houses, like four pillars, had once held our school together.

Now they were at odds with each other, fighting each other, each trying to take control.

For a time, it looked as if the school was dying.

There were many quarrels, many fights, and once good friends became enemies.

Then, one morning, the old Slytherin left us.

Although the quarrels had been settled, he left us in despair.

Only three of the four founders remained, and the four houses were no longer as harmonious and united as they had been imagined.

Now the Sorting Hat is before you, and you all know how it all came about: I sorted you into each house because my duty was unchangeable.

But this year I will say a few more words and ask you to listen carefully to my new song:

Although I am bound to divide you, I am afraid that this is not the right thing to do.

Although I must do my duty and divide the new students into four each year, I am afraid that this division will lead to the collapse I dread.

Oh, know the dangers, read the signs, the lessons of history warn us, our Hogwarts is in danger, the enemies outside the school are watching.

We must unite tightly within, otherwise everything will collapse from within.

I have spoken to you, I have sounded the alarm for you...

Now let us begin the Sorting.
