After watching Aunt Wang leave, Tingting locked the front door of her house. To avoid too many people coming, she had to do it this way for now, otherwise she wouldn't be able to have a peaceful dinner that night.
Tingting remembered that Zhuzi had acted strangely earlier, so she decided to tease him to see what was going on.
“Zhu Zi, Aunt Wang just saw a photo that looks pretty good. Why don’t you take a look?”
"Mom, I'm still too young, let's forget about it."
“You’re still young. Your father and I are about your age and we’ve already gotten married. I think this is indeed a good match.”
"Mother, you've never even met this person before, how can you say he's good?"
Seeing her son's bright red face, Tingting burst out laughing.
When Tingting smiled, Zhu Zi knew that his mother was teasing him.
"Mom, you're always joking around."
“You’re all grown up now. It’s okay to talk to your parents about things. Alright, you just got back today, let’s not talk about this now.”
"Your father and I are going to cook first, and then heat up the kang (heated brick bed) for the five of you, otherwise it will be cold at night."
"Mom, we can start the fire ourselves. You and Dad can cook. Don't worry about us."
"No, please. You've been on the train for so long, take a good rest. If you want to work, you can help out in a few days."
"Okay, we understand, Mother."
Looking at the children's faces, Tingting sang while working.
Tingting and Jianjun were in a very good mood because their children had returned.
"Honey, I'll wash the vegetables. Go and rest. This hot pot is easy; it'll be done in no time."
"I'll still help them. They must have been on the train for so long, they must be hungry."
"If we cook for them together, it will definitely be faster."
"Okay, okay, I'll listen to you."
"Brother, are you back for a while and about to leave again?"
"After the New Year, we'll stay a little longer before we have to leave; we still have to go back to school."
"Brother, after Qiuqiu and I take the exam, we'll apply to Xiamen University too, and then Mom and Dad can go with us."
"Then we won't have to live in two different places just to take care of us."
"Yes, you should study hard too, so that when you get a good job, you can take good care of your parents."
“Raising seven children like us is really not easy.”
"Besides, our family has no worries about food and drink, so this is really more difficult."
"Yes, that's why I admire our parents even more. I don't think we could do the same."
"What are you guys chatting about, talking so enthusiastically? Come on, let's eat."
"Mom didn't say anything. We'll go get the vegetables, meat, and seasonings."
"Okay, you guys go ahead. Be careful, the outer floor is all wet, don't slip."
As Zhu Zi and the others listened to their mother's words of advice, they felt a warmth in their hearts. It seemed like they hadn't heard their mother's concern, advice, or nagging for a whole year.
They always missed their home, their parents, and their younger siblings while they were away.
"Mom, you're the best cook. Everything you make tastes delicious," Tie Dan said between bites.
"What's the big deal? It's just adding some seasonings, meat, and vegetables."
"Mom, it really is delicious. You can't find this spicy flavor anywhere else."
"Then you should eat more. Your father and I have pickled a lot of duck eggs and smoked a lot of cured meat these past few days. We'll give them all to you to take with you."
"Okay, thank you, Mother. We'd be so thin if we didn't have the good food you and Father brought us while we were out here."
"Who among my classmates doesn't envy me for having such good parents?"
"You guys actually managed to coax the two of us."
Although Tingting said that, she was still happy to see that the children had grown taller and hadn't lost weight when they came back.
This is what parents are like—worry and concern. Young Tingting and Jianjun didn't understand, but they do now.
