Chapter 42 Full Moon

"Dad, Mom, Sister-in-law, come to our place for dinner tonight. Today is the baby's one-month birthday, and Tingzi has made a lot of delicious food at home."

"Okay, we'll all go. We'll go after work."

Tingting took out a lot of pheasants, wild rabbits, and roe deer meat from the space, intending to bring them back to her parents-in-law. She also made a lot of noodles.

"Wow, it smells so good!" Everyone was filled with anticipation as they entered the courtyard and hurried inside. Living far from the village has its advantages; you don't know how delicious the food is until you're inside.

"There's so much delicious food here. Why don't you save it to nourish your son and help him produce more milk?"

"Father and Mother, Jianjun and I have just caught some fresh game on the mountain. We caught a roe deer. You can take this meat back with you. The autumn harvest is coming soon, and we need to eat more."

“You’re so thoughtful, child. Do you have enough for yourselves?” Grandma Guo asked.

"We have enough to eat. There's so much meat now, we can't keep too much."

"By the way, Tingzi, this is brown sugar. We went to the village and traded some grain for 40 eggs. You should eat more to nourish your body."

"Mother, this brown sugar is too precious, you should take it back quickly."

"No, please. This is just a small token of my appreciation; I didn't put anything else in it."

"Thank you, Mom and Dad. Everyone, please sit down and eat!" The children were drooling and started eating heartily.

Everyone was so full they could barely walk. "Tingting, your cooking is so delicious! How did you make this?" asked Sister-in-law Guo.

"I might have a bit of talent, haha. I just followed everyone's method. Maybe it's because all of this is meat that everyone thinks it tastes good."

Sister-in-law Guo nodded after hearing this. With flour and meat, how could it not smell delicious?

"Jianjun."

"Hey Dad, have you named your son yet?"

“Dad, I’ve given him a name. Listen to it, it’s called Guo Weidong.”

"What a good name! 'Defend the motherland'—that's quite clever. This is a good name."

"Alright, we're going back now. You two pack up and get some rest."

"Father, Mother, take this roe deer meat back with you. I hunted it on the mountain."

"Okay, this is what Jianjun and Ting are grateful for, so I'll take it. You guys rest now. If you need more food, just let us know."

"Don't worry, Mom and Dad, you don't need to worry about us."

After the elderly couple returned home, they quickly marinated the meat, intending to eat it slowly during the autumn harvest.

"You know, this third son, I thought he would suffer after being separated from his family, but I didn't expect him to be doing so well."

“Our third son is capable, and Tingting is good too. Don’t worry. Back then, we were so hungry that we were almost starving, and it was Junzi who went to the city to exchange for grain. This is not something that just anyone can get.”

“These two children won’t suffer. They went up the mountain last year and brought back a lot of food, otherwise our family would have gone hungry in the spring.”

"Hey, old man, you're right. It's fair that the third son is capable and the family is splitting up. It's also good for the relationship between the children, and they can lend a hand. Go to sleep now, you'll be going to work tomorrow."

Tingting said to Jianjun, "Honey, let's go up the mountain in a while. We picked a lot of wild vegetables and food last year. Let's stock up on more supplies when we go up the mountain this time."

"It's good to save more money for our son's future wife. If we don't go now, we won't have time after the autumn harvest."

"Okay, honey, let's set off early tomorrow, at 3 a.m., otherwise it won't be good if others see us going up the mountain."

"Then let's take our son inside. It's been a long time since we've been up the mountain, and I'm quite happy about it."

"These are still difficult times. We still need to move things further in from the mountains, catch more animals, and sell them during the Lunar New Year. We need to be careful this time."

Tingting nodded, and the two of them began to rest in preparation for going up the mountain tomorrow.
