The midday sun filtered through the cracks in the attic's stained glass windows, casting bizarre patterns on the wooden floor.
Mark was curled up beside a wooden barrel in the corner of the attic, holding a thick white book in his arms.
"Aunt Irene!"
Mark woke up from the ground with a sudden kick as if he was stimulated by something. He did not notice the book in his arms, but ran down the attic in a panic and quickly ran towards Irene's bedroom.
As we sped along, everything we experienced last night seemed to be just a dream.
Stewart Church was not torn apart by the violent holy light storm, nor was he killed by the final self-explosion of the Holy Light Nightmare.
Everything in the church was still as peaceful and calm as usual, except for the crows' cries from the cemetery, which seemed particularly harsh.
When he arrived at Irene's bedroom, he saw that the bedroom door was still ajar, the same as when he went upstairs yesterday.
Seeing this, Mark's heart couldn't help but skip a beat.
When I opened the door, Sister Irene was not there.
Mark ran to the confessional, the chapel, the vegetable garden, the kitchen, and almost went around the entire Stuart Church, but he still couldn't find the familiar hunched figure.
"How is that possible? That shouldn't be the case! Old Stuart was killed by a nightmare, he didn't disappear!"
Mark squatted weakly on the kitchen steps, regretting why he carried that half bottle of holy water with him.
If it weren't for him, Sister Irene wouldn't have to face the Holy Light Nightmare.
Or if he had confessed to the nun earlier about the cross necklace and the specialness of his job change, the nun would have discovered his restraint on the Holy Light Nightmare sooner, and everything would have been different!
But now it's too late, the nun is already dead!
Little Mark's last relative in this world has also left him!
"Quack~Quack~"
The noisy crows' cries awakened the grieving Mark, and he suddenly remembered that the cemetery was Sister Irene's favorite place to stay.
Although he glanced at the cemetery to make sure that no one was there when he passed the confessional, it was still necessary to go over and take a look.
Arriving at the church's largest cemetery, one can see that the tombstones that were once neatly arranged are now tilted to one side or the other, and the place where Sister Irene had drawn the magic circle is now charred.
Several cypress trees in the center of the cemetery fell down radially, their bark covered with narrow cracks left over from the explosion, and faint starlight flickered deep in each crack.
There are also several crows that have been burned to charcoal in this area. Obviously, everything discovered in the dream world does not have no impact on the real world.
"Gah!"
While Mark was still searching in the cemetery, an adult crow suddenly flew to him rudely and landed directly on his head.
Mark waved his hands weakly to drive away the crow, but the crow just flapped its wings to avoid it and then fell down again without giving up.
"Don't bother me, or I'll roast you..."
Angry Mark was about to look up and yell, but he was surprised to find that there was a letter in the crow's mouth.
The front of the letter was sealed with a red wax pattern of overlapping stars and moons.
When Mark saw the letter, his heart couldn't help but shrink. He looked at Crow in disbelief, feeling as if he had discovered some special secret.
Taking the letter from the crow's beak, Mark couldn't wait to run to the church study.
"Little Mark, by the time you receive this letter, I may have already left the Lily Kingdom... I don't know when you changed your job, nor do I know why Old Stuart's cross necklace became like that, but one thing is certain: it wasn't the power of Holy Light."
"Little Mark, you did the right thing. You can tell anyone about your job change, but you can't tell anyone related to the Holy Light. Just like me, even though I've lived in Stelter Church for so many years, I've never told anyone that I'm a mage who believes in the Star-Moon Goddess. Even when your father was killed by Nightmare, I didn't show my abilities in front of him."
"I don't know if you hate me, Little Mark. But, whether you hate me or not, you must leave Champagne Town as soon as possible. The church's minions will soon arrive in Champagne Town, and they will definitely stop at nothing when hunting me down. If they know your abilities, they will be even less likely to let you go..."
"...Little Mark, you are very powerful. You will definitely be much stronger than your father in the future. I look forward to the day when your name spreads throughout the Holy Dragon Continent. Perhaps then we will have the chance to meet again. Irene Sophiel."
As soon as he finished reading Irene's letter, Mark went to St. John's Church in the east of the town on an empty stomach to inquire about the news.
When he arrived outside St. John's Church, the area around the church was already surrounded by believers.
From the conversations among the believers, he learned that at midnight yesterday, holy light suddenly overflowed from St. John's Church. The entire church was covered with holy light, and the people in the east of the town all felt the sacred breath of the holy light.
However, Bishop Miller of St. John's Church died beside the holy water pool of the church. According to the believers in Champagne Town, the greedy Godfather Miller must have been punished by the holy light.
They only care about whether the Holy Light will favor them, but they don't care whether it is Miller or Menler who is in charge of the church.
When the believers heard the clergy in the church say that the higher-ups would send big figures from the Holy Knights to investigate the Holy Light incident at St. John's Church, they even excitedly discussed whether the arrival of those big figures would attract more attention from the Holy Light to the small town of Champagne.
Listening to those people's discussion, Mark just curled his lips and quietly hid at the back of the crowd to avoid being seen by the people in St. John's Church.
