Chapter 83 The Enigmatic Past! (Part 2) '...'
'They appeared on this barren land; they are a gift from God.'
'He (crossed out) them, seems a bit strange, human children don't need to eat %#@#? Blood%……& heads##@? ? !'
Then I stopped writing in my diary.
The subsequent researchers studied the diary to investigate the mysterious disappearance of the expedition team and also because they discovered that the instrument recording energy markers at the exploration base was missing. The Federal Energy Exploration Headquarters suspected internal strife within the team; the instrument contained all the team's findings, which, if smuggled out, would be a tremendous treasure.
At first, no one connected the investigation to the diary. Even headquarters assumed it was a massacre carried out by a mutiny within the team and criminals. However, after discovering no trace of combat, they remembered the diary.
"And then what? What does this have to do with the experimental project? Haven't they been exploring energy sources all along?" Pei Qing asked, looking at the interrupted screen.
Gu Fei sighed, "The remaining part belongs to the internal documents of the Federation, which I haven't obtained yet. As for the content in the middle, I only have some hearsay and rumors."
"In short, the Federation confirmed through the Diary that the two mysteriously appearing human children were highly suspicious and began to investigate. They eventually found traces of them in a remote corner of the planet and, after some effort, captured them by surprise. During the return journey, the researchers discovered that the two human children had a peculiar connection with ISET, specifically that they could directly use ISET to replenish their energy and explore the specific location of energy sources."
"Researchers realized that although the test results showed that the two were indeed of the human race, even the Zerg, known for their strength, could not possibly use ISET as a direct energy source in interstellar space. They were a new race that had never been discovered before and were worth studying."
"Marshal Feng Lin, who had just taken office that year, was the person directly in charge of the research project. The Gu family, the Shen family, and the Luo family provided all the research staff. Later, the Luo family lost power, most of the Shen family went into politics, and only the Gu family devoted themselves to the research. They discovered that the two test subjects had characteristics similar to ISET, such as the ability to mutate through radiation, etc. The researchers named the test subjects 001 and 002."
"The test subjects also have the ability to 'assimilate,' which was only discovered after the research accident. But it was too late. One of the two test subjects had already escaped successfully, but for some reason, the larger test subject 001, who had the appearance of a human female, did not escape and instead remained in the research institute."
"After the research accident, the Marshal decisively transferred the only remaining precious experimental subject, 001, to the Federal Central Research Institute for close monitoring. Many researchers had actually developed symptoms of 'assimilation' inside their bodies, but unfortunately, no one knew it. 'Assimilation' was deeply ingrained in their genes, like a maggot clinging to a bone, buried deep within them."
Gu Fei paused, then said, "At the time, the marshal thought she had eliminated all those who had been 'assimilated,' but that wasn't the case. 'Assimilation' can never be completely eliminated unless,"
"Unless what?"
“Unless it is ‘permitted’ by Him, then ‘stripping’ can be carried out.” Gu Fei hesitated for a moment, then added, “That last sentence was a deduction based on research findings; I don’t know the specifics.”
"That's all I know. Further details are sealed away by the Federation's higher-ups, and I have no way of knowing them." Gu Fei took a sip of tea and looked at Feng Qi and the other woman. "So, Ms. Feng Qi, are you satisfied with my surrender letter?"
Feng Qi ignored him, but looked at Pei Qing with concern, "Are you alright now?"
"It's fine. Except for not having a hand, everything is alright." Pei Qing manipulated the tendrils to feed herself a small biscuit, a snack she had found while 'watching a movie'.
That's right, she felt that this information was like a movie, completely irrelevant to her.
"You, don't you feel any pain? You've been imprisoned for so long, and subjected to so many inhumane experiments..." Turansen woke up from his coma at some point, his face filled with shock.
"Oh right, you were snoring just now, and it was really loud. I couldn't wake you up, and you were drooling," Pei Qing said while eating a butter biscuit.
"That's not the point!" Turansen exclaimed, wiping his drool in exasperation.
"I have a question. Why do you think that I and, uh, 001, are the same person?"
“Because you are indeed one person…” Turansen lay wearily on the sofa.
"I don't think we are the same person. My memories of the lab are all incomplete. I don't even know if they are truly my memories. Who knows if someone implanted them through some means?"
"But you have exactly the same racial characteristics as 001."
“That only means we might be of the same race,” Pei Qing said confidently, and Turansen then gave her an inscrutable look.
“Anyway, I’m definitely not her. I trust my intuition. Oh, right,” Pei Qing suddenly remembered something else, “what happened to 001 later?”
"I don't know. Feng Lin blocked all information about the research institute a long time ago," Gu Fei replied.
“Look, 001 is probably still in the research institute. I’m definitely not 001!” Pei Qing said, and then she saw the three of them casting complicated glances at her.
She wasn't mistaken, was she? Why did she feel there was a hint of pity in that gaze? It was like looking at a cerebral palsy idiot.
"Fine, if you say it's not true, then it's not true. Whatever you say is right..." Turansen slumped helplessly on the sofa. She finally understood why Pei Qing hadn't reacted much before. It turned out that Pei Qing didn't think she was the one suffering. Oh, I see.
However, losing such painful memories doesn't seem like a big deal; it might even be a good thing.
Feng Qi seemed a little slow to react, sitting there blankly.
"Even if we take a step back and assume that 001 is me, I don't have any memories of her, so how can I be considered her?" Pei Qing couldn't help but complain again.
"The connection between consciousness and body is indeed quite complicated..." Gu Fei sighed. He finally understood why that guy hadn't shown up. Without any memories and not yet mature, it was truly... hard to explain.
If it weren't for the genetic attraction from his very bones telling Gu Fei that the person in front of him was right, he probably would have been really confused by this strange logic. Was it caused by a long-term lack of energy? He should probably replenish His energy as soon as possible.
Seeing that things were going further and further astray, Gu Fei quickly opened the safe, revealing dozens of energy crystals, each the size of a fist.
"Ahem, since you believe that you... are of the same race as that person, then you can naturally use that person's method to repair your body. Your current physical condition is only due to a lack of energy, and your body has been in a state of energy deficiency for a long time. As long as you replenish your energy, you can recover on your own." Gu Fei stammered, which was rare for him.
"So simple?" Pei Qing reached out her tentacles to touch the energy crystals. One of the smaller crystals instantly dissipated, and an invisible energy entered her body. Pei Qing immediately felt much better.
After absorbing all the energy crystals, Pei Qing's hand was finally back! She was almost moved to tears!
Seeing Pei Qing's joyful expression, Gu Fei couldn't help but smile. "By the way, I need to remind you that with your current physical condition, you need to absorb energy crystals regularly to maintain stability. These energy crystals can provide you with energy for about a month."
"You mean, if I can't find energy crystals to replenish my body, it will collapse again?"
"Yes."
"Does this mean I'll have to rely on this energy crystal to maintain my human form from now on?!" Pei Qingchu raised her hand and rested it on her forehead.
“Strictly speaking, that’s how it is.” Feng Qi took over the conversation, her expression both solemn and reassuring. “But don’t worry, I will do my best to help you find the energy crystal.”
Pei Qing lowered her eyes. "You've come here today because you've already thought of your exchange conditions, right? But I advise you to be careful. After all, I'm not in a good mood right now, and who knows what I might do if I lose my temper."
"No, how can you talk like that? Do you know how much manpower and resources Feng Qi wasted searching for you? And now you're saying such things? You're really ungrateful!" Turansen couldn't help but speak angrily upon hearing this.
"I'm not human," Pei Qing said nonchalantly. Besides, she didn't believe that Feng Qi had told her so much and searched for her for so long just for the sake of their so-called alliance.
The situation is now quite clear. Feng Qi and her mother's conflict is not simply a matter of marital discord or family disputes that have reached such a tense point. The two are more like political enemies now, disagreeing with or even hating each other's chosen paths.
She didn't understand the path Feng Qi had chosen, but if the news reports were true, then Feng Lin was an absolute staunch supporter and practitioner of the iron-fisted purge of political parties. As for Feng Lin, in their previous interactions, he was resourceful but lacked ruthlessness, which was probably the source of their conflict.
Although Pei Qing is mostly too lazy to use her brain, she's not stupid.
The fact that both Feng Lin and Feng Qi are looking for her proves that her value, or rather, the threat she poses, has reached an immeasurable level.
However, aside from her ability to transform into a fluid (just kidding), her most unique trait is 'assimilation'. What exactly is the nature of 'assimilation', and what secrets does it conceal that warrant the personal intervention of the Federation Marshal?
Pei Qing shook her head inwardly. Right now, nothing was more important than maintaining the form. The most urgent task was to absorb the energy crystal first, in case anything unexpected happened...
Taking advantage of the moment when no one was looking, Pei Qing's tentacles quietly reached under the table and, through a layer of glass, stealthily absorbed the energy crystals. Soon, several energy crystals were almost completely absorbed. The energy contained within these precious crystals, each powerful enough to power dozens of mechs, flowed continuously into her body, silently repairing her nearly dehydrated torso.
The sense of satisfaction brought by that abundant energy was simply indescribable. Pei Qing sighed, slumped onto the sofa, and wore a satisfied smile on her face.
Looking at Pei Qing's expression, Gu Fei suddenly felt a surge of excitement. Since the important matters were almost settled, it was time to deal with this...
He coughed lightly, and his pointed red-soled leather shoes slowly lifted, revealing his slender ankles, like snakes lurking in the darkness, winding down to Pei Qing's legs, searching for their target.
Pei Qing sat up, and out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a dark red flash. The next second, the toe of her shoe gently pressed against the junction of her thigh and kneecap.
She looked up and saw only one person opposite her. The man was dressed in a suit and looked very respectable. Behind his cold, sharp glasses, one of his green eyes narrowed and blinked quietly.
Feng Qi and Turansen went elsewhere to discuss the matter, leaving only the two of them here. Gu Fei's throat was dry, and she felt a little hot. Her pale fingers loosened her tie, which brought her some relief.
As the pointed leather shoes moved forward, and Gu Fei could't help but smile as he approached his destination.
"Bang!!!" A violent collision sound rang out, and the solid gate, tens of meters high, flew into the air, knocking over the towering iron frame, and finally crashed heavily onto the screen in the inner room, shattering the precious screen into pieces of fluorescent particles.
"Fine, Gu Fei, you slut, how dare you take advantage of me while I'm gathering intelligence? Today I'm going to take your dog's life!" A lazy voice rang out, its tone concealing a raging fury.
As the smoke cleared, a familiar figure slowly came into view.
