Ugly son-in-law meets father-in-law
The next afternoon, G-Dragon woke up two hours early. He tiptoed out of bed, careful not to wake Su You who was still sleeping, and practiced his smile and greetings countless times in front of the bathroom mirror, even styling his hair to its best condition.
When Su You woke up, she saw that he was already dressed and sitting upright on the living room sofa, his fingers unconsciously rubbing his knees. The expensive suit made his shoulders look straight, but it also revealed a rare kind of youthful nervousness.
"Wow," Su You leaned against the doorframe, smiling as she looked him over, "Is this handsome gentleman on his way to some international awards ceremony?"
Kwon Ji-yong looked up at the sound of her voice, and when he saw it was her, his tense expression relaxed a little. He smiled helplessly and said, "Don't tease me, Yoyo. Help me see if this is really okay? Isn't the tie too flashy? Should I change to something more conservative?"
Su You walked over and straightened his already impeccably tied tie, saying softly, "Perfect, very handsome, and with great taste. Trust me, my mom will definitely praise your fashion sense."
They arrived at their reserved private room almost half an hour early. G-Dragon took several deep breaths, trying to calm his racing heart. Just as the waiter poured the tea, the door to the room was pushed open.
Su You's parents entered, guided by a waiter.
Mr. Su wore a dark-colored Chinese-style jacket with knotted buttons, exuding a refined and scholarly air, while Mrs. Su wore a well-tailored dress and had a gentle smile. Both of them wore expressions of curiosity and anticipation.
G-Dragon practically sprang from his seat instantly, his movement so fast he almost knocked over the chair. He gave a perfect ninety-degree bow, and with all his might, spoke in a clear, articulate but noticeably tense voice:
"Uncle! Auntie! Hello! I'm G-Dragon!"
His voice was loud and clear, and his attitude was as respectful as if he were meeting some important leader.
Su You was taken aback by his overly formal opening remarks, and then couldn't help but lower her head and smirk.
Mr. and Mrs. Su were clearly taken aback by this "grand gift." Immediately, Mrs. Su's face broke into an even wider smile, and she quickly waved her hand, saying, "Oh, good child, don't be so polite, please get up, please get up."
Su's father cleared his throat, trying to maintain a serious expression, but the fine lines at the corners of his eyes softened: "Yes, there's no need to be so reserved, please sit down."
G-Dragon straightened up, his cheeks slightly flushed, but he still followed the procedure strictly, presenting the prepared gift with both hands, and said in slightly more fluent but still slow and serious Chinese: "This is a small token of my appreciation for you two. I hope you like it."
Su's mother took the beautifully packaged gift box and saw that inside were a top-quality purple clay teapot and pre-Qingming Longjing tea, as well as a set of professional gardening tools, rare flower seeds, and the latest mobile phone. A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes: "This child is too extravagant and too thoughtful."
"Yes, it's my duty," Kwon Ji-yong quickly replied.
After they sat down and exchanged initial pleasantries, the atmosphere became a little more relaxed. Mr. Su picked up his teacup and began his "routine inquiry."
"Zhilong," Su's father said cautiously, "I heard from Xiaoyou that you're very busy with work, flying all over the world. What are your plans for this after you get married?"
Here it comes! Kwon Ji-yong perked up and silently recited the "reference answer" he had prepared, but looking at Su's father's gentle yet serious eyes, he decided to put aside the script and speak his most honest thoughts.
He sat up straighter, his gaze sincere: "Uncle, my life used to be almost entirely filled with work. But after meeting Su You, I realized what's more important. I'm already adjusting my work schedule, reducing unnecessary trips and exposure, and dedicating more time to my family. If... if we have children in the future, I hope to have plenty of time to spend with them and Su You. Music is a part of my life, but Su You and our future home are my true home."
He didn't use any fancy words, and his tone even paused a few times due to nervousness, but his sincerity and determination were clearly conveyed.
Mr. Su nodded thoughtfully, without asking any further questions, and simply picked up his teacup and took a sip.
Su's mother was more concerned with the details of daily life. She asked with a smile, "Zhilong, our Xiaoyou is sometimes a little absent-minded and picky about food. She doesn't like to eat vegetables. You know all that, right?"
Upon hearing this, G-Dragon's expression immediately relaxed, and he even smiled gently: "I know, Auntie. She sometimes forgets to eat when she's busy with work, so I remind her or order takeout for her. She doesn't like carrots and green peppers, but I try to juice the carrots and mix them with flour to make noodles, and then she can accept them a little better. I'm learning to cook Chinese food, and I hope I can cook her favorite dishes more often in the future."
As he spoke, he subconsciously glanced at Su You beside him, his eyes overflowing with affection.
Su You was surprised that he remembered even these details so clearly, and even said them in front of her parents. Her face flushed slightly, but her heart was filled with sweetness.
As Su's mother watched the natural eye contact between the two, her smile grew increasingly gratified and satisfied.
The conversation became increasingly relaxed as it progressed. Although G-Dragon's Chinese wasn't fluent yet, and Su You occasionally had to "translate" or prompt him with a few words, he was extremely attentive, listening attentively and trying his best to express himself. His animated talk about music and his gentle and meticulous descriptions of his future plans gradually dispelled Su You's parents' initial concerns.
With encouragement from his mother, he even awkwardly used serving chopsticks to serve food to the elderly couple.
Halfway through the meal, Su's father suddenly looked at Kwon Ji-yong, his tone gentler than before, carrying a solemn entrustment: "Ji-yong."
"Yes, Uncle." Kwon Ji-yong immediately put down his chopsticks and listened attentively.
"I'm entrusting our little You to you." Father Su's voice was not loud, but it was as heavy as a thousand pounds. "I hope that you two will respect and love each other, support each other, and live a good life together."
Kwon Ji-yong was stunned for a moment, then a surge of overwhelming joy and emotion welled up inside him. He stood up abruptly, bowed deeply again, and when he looked up, his eyes were slightly red.
"Thank you, Uncle and Aunt! Please rest assured! I will love her and protect her with my life, and I will never let her suffer any injustice!"
This time, his Chinese was exceptionally fluent, with an undeniable firmness.
Watching this scene, Su You felt a lump in her throat, and tears almost welled up in her eyes. She knew that the two most important men in her life had, at this moment, completed a silent yet solemn handover.
On the way back, Kwon Ji-yong held Su You's hand tightly, remaining silent for a long time. Only when the car entered the garage did he let out a long sigh of relief, as if a huge burden had been lifted from his shoulders, or as if he were filled with boundless energy. He turned his head, his eyes shining brightly, and pulled Su You into his arms.
"Youyou, your aunt and uncle have accepted me!" His voice was filled with barely suppressed excitement, even a little choked up. "They've entrusted you to me!"
"Yes, I heard you." Su You hugged him back, feeling the rapid heartbeat in his chest, and smiled gently, "See, I told you, they would definitely like you."
“Now,” Kwon Ji-yong released her, his eyes burning with renewed anticipation and determination for the wedding, “I can now prepare to marry you without any worries!”
G-Dragon successfully passed the hurdle of meeting the parents! Next, it's time to focus all his energy on their one and only wedding.
