Retiring

Retiring

The hands of time have quietly passed, and the countdown to G-Dragon's discharge from the military has begun.

Online, fans were already in a frenzy, with all sorts of support plans and pick-up guides flooding the internet. Meanwhile, in Beijing, Su You closed the Harvard application materials she had just finished reviewing, her gaze falling on the date marked with a red circle on the calendar, a gentle smile curving her lips.

She didn't tell G-Dragon that she would be coming. For the past two years, they had supported each other and grown together through infrequent phone calls and precious letters. She knew he was coming back, and she was ready to welcome him back with a fresh perspective.

On the day of her discharge, the area outside the Lunshan Training Center was already packed with media and fans, the air thick with excitement and anticipation. Su You, dressed in simple denim, a baseball cap, and a black mask, quietly blended into the crowd, camera slung over her shoulder. Like any ordinary fan welcoming their idol, she waited patiently, her eyes, visible through the mask, exceptionally clear and serene.

At 10:00 a.m. sharp, the training center gates opened.

The figure that countless people had been waiting for finally appeared. G-Dragon was wearing his enlistment uniform, his posture even more upright and resolute than before, his buzz cut making his sharply defined face appear even more rugged. He wore a faint, seemingly somewhat reserved smile, his eyes sweeping over the bustling crowd before him, filled with gratitude, emotion, and a barely perceptible hint of caution as he readjusted to the spotlight.

He bowed deeply, a perfect ninety-degree angle, for a long time. When he stood up, his eyes seemed slightly red. He didn't say much, but his gaze swept over the faces that hadn't forgotten him.

Just as he looked up, gazing at the distant sky, as if taking a deep breath of free air—

"Click".

A very soft shutter sound was heard, barely audible amidst the clamor of voices.

Su You held the camera steadily, the lens capturing that moment precisely: he tilted his head slightly, his jawline sharp and defined, sunlight falling on his angular profile, illuminating the complex emotions in his eyes—a sense of relief at having shed a burden, a firm resolve for the future, and a touch of the unique, mature youthful spirit that belonged only to G-Dragon. The background was a blurry, swaying silhouette and flags, but he alone was the clear focus.

This photo is not a declaration of superstar GD's comeback, but rather the first frame of a new chapter in her life.

After taking the photos, Su You didn't go forward to acknowledge them. She simply adjusted her hat brim, carefully put away her camera, and quietly slipped away from the edge of the crowd, just as she had come.

On the way back, she looked at the photo on the camera screen, her fingertips gently tracing his resolute brows and eyes. She took out her phone and sent him a short message:

Welcome back.

Almost the instant the message was sent, his phone rang. The background noise was a bit loud, but his voice was clear and urgent, filled with unbelievable surprise:

“Yuzu? Where...where are you? I think I just…” He paused, as if recalling a familiar figure that flashed by at the edge of the crowd.

Su You looked at the street scene rushing past the car window, her voice tinged with laughter:

“I’m recording history.” She paused, then added softly, “Yours and mine.”

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, followed by his deep, pleasant laughter.

“Wait for me,” he said, his tone more reassuring and certain than ever before. “I’m coming home right away.”

Su You hung up the phone and set the photo as her phone's lock screen. In the photo, he was facing the light, walking towards a brand new future with her. And she, too, was ready to set off with him, to walk side by side in a wider world.
