Chapter 223 Scratching one's ears and cheeks

Gu Yiming came out of the restroom and saw Jiang Hua scratching her head anxiously. Were these manuscripts really making her this worried? Gu Yiming quickly walked over and took the manuscripts from Jiang Hua's hands.

"Let me take a look for you. You can't come up with anything by yourself here."

Seeing Gu Yiming finally finish using the restroom and come out to help her, Jiang Hua breathed a sigh of relief. She genuinely couldn't figure out what was wrong with the character's appearance on her own. But with Gu Yiming, it was different. After all, Gu Yiming was intelligent and had excellent eyesight. He would definitely be able to see what was wrong.

Gu Yiming picked up the manuscript and examined it carefully, saying that what the sketch lacked was the overall coherence of the figures.

What was your inspiration when you drew this?

"The inspiration came from a very short time, but I remember it clearly. At the time, since it was a fantasy game, I wanted to make the character's appearance more vibrant. But the clothes couldn't be too expensive, so I covered them up a bit. Now, I feel like something doesn't match up."

Jiang Hua slapped her forehead. Ah, it really was the clothes! She wondered why the whole outfit just didn't look right. "Hua Hua, do you think it's just that the clothes don't quite match the character's head, making it look awkward?"

Jiang Hua hurriedly said, "Yes, I just thought of this problem. I was only thinking about making the clothes look more ethereal, but I didn't think about whether it would match the character."

Jiang Hua examined the manuscript carefully again, and it was indeed true. But then another problem arose. The dress itself looked quite nice, but it didn't suit her face shape. How could she make the dress appear more ethereal?

Jiang Hua pondered for a while and said to Gu Yiming, "Why don't we change the style of the clothes first? Changing the clothes should be enough."

Gu Yiming nodded in agreement, since there weren't many other options available, and this was the only way.

Jiang Hua quickly erased the clothes of the figure on another manuscript and then redrawn a new garment on top of it. The result was still unsatisfactory; the final effect wasn't as good as the previous garment.

Jiang Hua had no choice but to design another set. The result? Even worse. So Jiang Hua retrieved the previous character's clothes and swapped them with this one. Still, none of them suited her taste.

I've designed about 50 outfits for the character. I've also drawn several dialogue sketches. Normally, a few dozen drafts would be enough to choose the right outfit. But finding the right outfit for this character is really difficult.

Gu Yiming also started to worry. This really wasn't going to work, because if the clothes and headgear of some characters didn't match, no one would choose that character. This character was Jiang Hua's favorite. After getting back the copyright to this character, they started making changes, and now it looked like this—it was truly a headache.

Jiang Hua scratched her head in frustration. Normally, if her clothes and hair didn't match, she could just change them. But she changed outfit after outfit, and still couldn't find anything that matched her hair; none of them were as suitable as the first one.

Gu Yiming suggested, "Let's change the colors of our clothes a few times. We can't always be changing styles in the same color, right?"

Jiang Hua thought about it and agreed. Wearing several pieces of clothing in only one color might look good, but it would lack sophistication.

The character's face was designed with extremely high precision, almost to perfection, so there could be no room for carelessness in terms of clothing or the video itself.

Jiang Hua changed back into the first outfit. After changing several colors, he found it was still the same, and it didn't achieve the desired effect at all. Jiang Hua was almost going crazy with anxiety. If changing the clothes didn't work, then he would have to change his face, but he really couldn't bear to change his current face shape.

This face design took almost half a month to complete. The goal was to add a hidden quest to the game; if certain conditions were met, this character form could be triggered, and whether or not players would choose that character would be up to them.

But I can't find any suitable clothes right now. Does this mean I have to give up on this idea?

Just then, Wu Jing returned from lunch. Seeing the two of them sitting there looking worried, he went over and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you so worried?"

Jiang Hua, with a pained expression, said to Wu Jing, "It's not that. It's because of this manuscript. Yi Ming just said that something about this manuscript looks wrong, so I looked at it carefully, and it really is wrong. Later I realized that the hair and clothes don't match. But even after changing the clothes, it doesn't achieve the desired effect. Even the color of the clothes I changed today doesn't work. There's really no other way now. I can only change the face shape."

Upon hearing that it was about games, Wu Jing immediately dropped her playful demeanor. She said seriously, "Oh, why do you seem so worried about everything? What's gotten into you?"

Jiang Hua counted on her fingers as she spoke. "We tried red, black, white, and blue. There were also a few other color tones. But the results weren't very good."

Looking at the two who were still thinking, Wu Jing said, "If the main color scheme doesn't match, perhaps you could try all the colors. Maybe you'll find one that you like. With so many colors, there's bound to be one you'll like. But too many colors will strain my eyes, so I can't help you. Here's a suggestion: see if you can accept it first."

Gu Yiming and Jiang Hua nodded upon hearing this, and just as Wu Jing sat down at his desk, the two of them actually tried it out. Just as Wu Jing said, there are many colors in the world.

Although it was hard on the eyes, Gu Yiming and Jiang Hua were two people; Wu Jing couldn't see so many colors. However, other company members also had manuscripts, so they helped search on the computer. Gradually, many people returned. After understanding the situation, they also started helping with the search. They were busy until they finished work that evening.

Some people couldn't take it anymore and had to rest their eyes after looking at it for a while because it was too irritating to their eyes. But no one stopped saying, "This job is too tiring for my eyes, I'm not doing it anymore, you guys do it."
