Jiang Kefan lived a relatively leisurely life at home alone. She would always cook for herself, and if necessary, she would go out to buy something to eat. Gu Yiming and Jiang Hua had kept some spare change at home, and Jiang Kefan had also saved enough money on her own.
Jiang Kefan received an invitation from his classmates to go out and play with them, but unexpectedly ran into Li Younan, who was taking a guzheng lesson, on the way.
"Are you going to your guzheng lesson again? Look at you carrying such a big guzheng." Jiang Kefan took the initiative to greet Li Younan. Li Younan only noticed Jiang Kefan at this moment and quickly replied, hugging his big guzheng.
"Yeah, I'm still going to my guzheng lesson today. Are you out hanging out with your classmates?" Li Younan looked at Jiang Kefan and figured she must have had a great time. She then realized that Jiang Kefan cared about her quite a bit because she greeted him first, which was much more considerate than when she called her by the wrong name the first time.
The two children didn't know what to say next, but then it seemed like even the heavens were on their side as a torrential downpour suddenly began.
Without waiting for a reply, Jiang Kefan grabbed Li Younan and started running. Li Younan almost lost her balance as Jiang Kefan pulled her along.
"Didn't you see it's raining? Why aren't you splitting up and going home? Why are you dragging me along?" Li Younan then stopped and didn't run after Jiang Kefan.
Jiang Kefan stomped his feet in frustration, then said to Li Younan, "Didn't you see? It's raining. What if your guzheng gets ruined if we don't run? Hurry up and come to my house..." Before Jiang Kefan could finish speaking, Li Younan interrupted him. Li Younan seemed to want to laugh, but he held it in.
Jiang Kefan thought Li Younan had gone mad from being soaked; instead of leaving quickly after the rain, he was laughing.
"I think you're crazy. It's raining here, and it's closer to my house. Why would I run all the way to your house? If I follow you to your house, my instrument will definitely get soaked and ruined!" As he spoke, Li Younan started playing again. Jiang Kefan turned around and ran towards his house. Thinking about it, Jiang Kefan realized that it seemed true; it was closer to Li Younan's house.
The two of them ran through the rain and finally arrived at Li Younan's house, but there were no adults at Li Younan's house.
"Quickly grab a towel and dry yourself off. You're soaked. What if you catch a cold? There are no adults at home, just me. They haven't come back yet." Li Younan said, handing Jiang Kefan a towel. After taking the towel, he quickly dried himself off and felt much better.
After wiping the water, Jiang Kefan looked at Li Younan's house, which seemed much cleaner and tidier than his own. Perhaps it was because he had been at home for the past few days that his house looked a bit messy.
"What should we do? It's almost time to eat, and we can't just go out in the rain to buy takeout, can we?" Jiang Kefan looked around and realized that the weather was really not suitable for going out. If they went out again, they would definitely get soaked again, and it seemed that there were no shops selling anything around here.
Li Younan looked at Jiang Kefan with disdain, but didn't say anything. She just said angrily, "Why do we have to buy food? Just because you have money and can't bear not spending it, does that mean I can't cook for you?" As she said this, Li Younan put down her guzheng and started packing her schoolbag, seemingly preparing to cook.
Jiang Kefan looked at Li Younan in surprise, "So you can cook! It's all packed now, so we won't have to go out to buy food anymore. Or you can cook for me, I'd like to try your cooking." Jiang Kefan thought it was incredible that Li Younan could cook, and although he could cook himself, he still wanted to try Li Younan's cooking.
"Since you were worried about my guzheng getting wet today, I'll cook you a meal so you can taste my cooking." The little girl then started cooking with great enthusiasm, and Jiang Kefan watched with anticipation. However, Jiang Kefan later regretted eating Li Younan's cooking because it was terrible.
Li Younan brought over a bowl of rice, seemingly a portion for two, with trembling hands. She then served each portion to Jiang Kefan and said, "Why don't you try it first? What do you think?"
Jiang Kefan took a bite without thinking, only to find it was truly awful. He almost threw up, but then realized he was in Li Younan's house and that Li Younan would be upset if he did. So he quickly swallowed the food, but still mocked Li Younan, saying, "Your cooking is so bad, I really can't stand it. If possible, I will never eat your cooking."
After Jiang Kefan finished speaking, he didn't say anything else because he thought Li Younan might be angry. He then quickly put the food aside and decided to let Li Younan try his cooking. "Of course, since you're a girl and can't cook, I just threw it away. Anyway, you haven't thought about your other half yet, but your other half will definitely suffer in the future."
Faced with Jiang Kefan's sarcasm, Li Younan didn't say anything, because her cooking skills were indeed not very good. However, seeing Jiang Kefan cooking for her made her feel better. "Fine then, since you're so concerned, why don't you cook for me? Let me try your cooking, it should be pretty good, right?"
Without saying much, Jiang Kefan immediately cooked a meal for Li Younan. After eating it, Li Younan praised it highly. "Well, I originally thought your cooking was nothing special, but it's really much better than mine, and I really like it. Thank you so much for cooking this meal for me today. To express my gratitude, how about I play a piece on the guzheng for you?"
Jiang Kefan was delighted to hear Li Younan's words, so he quickly asked, "Really? You're willing to play the guzheng for me? I really can't accept your offer. Let me get ready quickly, I want to hear you play the guzheng for me."
After the two finished their meal, Li Younan rubbed his hands together and began to play the guzheng for Jiang Kefan. After Jiang Kefan cleared away the dishes, he listened to the beautiful guzheng music and praised Li Younan.
The children had a great time today. Even without adults around, they played much more freely than when adults were present. They didn't feel lonely without their friends either. The two children were extremely happy, as if it would be wonderful if they were a brother and sister, at least they could keep each other company.
