Chapter 413 Another Chance Encounter

Because Xu Mo had just escaped death and his physical condition was still not very good, the police officers who came to visit him only asked a few simple questions and left. Please search for this site on Baidu.

However, Xu Mo had performed a meritorious service and was injured while acting bravely, so he had to go to the police station for investigation and to give a statement.

So when his injuries had almost healed, he went to the police station.

"Those people have been taken to a drug rehabilitation center. We need to take their statements, so we'd like to trouble you to come with us there once," the police officer explained.

He was all too familiar with the drug rehabilitation center. Xu Xiaoxiao had once suffered a living hell there, and ultimately lost her life there.

Upon hearing those three words, Xu Mo felt as if his heart was being gripped by a pair of large hands, and waves of excruciating pain spread throughout his body. He suddenly fell silent and began to recall the time when Xu Xiaoxiao was here.

Although it was Xu Xiaoxiao who was staying there, his heart ached just as much as hers as her older brother's.

Seeing that Xu Mo remained silent, the police officer suspected he had something difficult to say and asked, "What's wrong? Is something the matter?"

Hearing the police's voice, Xu Mo snapped out of his reverie and quickly waved his hand, shaking his head to explain, "No, no, let's go." Though he said this, Xu Xiaoxiao's face kept flashing through his mind. A girl in the prime of her life, yet she died in a place like this because of drugs.

If it weren't for the need to give a statement, he would never have come to a place like this again.

But as fate would have it, Xu Mo had just stepped into the drug rehabilitation center when he saw the same person he had seen before.

"What's wrong with you? Why didn't you rescue my sister?" Xu Mo was like an enraged lion, his original rationality instantly devoured upon seeing the person who killed his sister.

He rushed over and grabbed the collar of the person at the drug rehabilitation center.

The people at the drug rehabilitation center were caught off guard by Xu Mo's arrival and the unexpected sighting of him. They panicked, stammered, and blurted out, "It has nothing to do with me, it was all an accident!" when questioned by Xu Mo.

"An accident? There aren't that many accidents. Didn't we agree on something?" Xu Mo's eyes were bloodshot, a cold glint in them. His dark pupils were like deep wells, sending chills down one's spine. It was clearly the drug rehabilitation center staff's own poor planning that led to Xu Xiaoxiao's death, yet now they were acting so self-righteously, completely absolving themselves of any responsibility. These words were like a trigger, igniting the long-suppressed anger within Xu Mo.

He rolled up his sleeves and was about to punch the person in the drug rehabilitation center in the face. The person instinctively dodged and threw a punch back. Just as the situation was about to get out of control, a policeman standing by stepped in.

The conversation between the two men caught the attention of a nearby police officer. Seeing the situation, he quickly stopped the two from fighting. This was a drug rehabilitation center; how could he allow them to have a personal feud and cause trouble here, especially in front of a regular employee? After stopping them, the officer couldn't help but ask, "Do you two know each other? What's the situation?"

The two finally realized that they shouldn't have said those words, but it was too late. The police had heard everything they said, and no matter how much they tried to deny it, the police wouldn't let it go.

"You two should tell me what happened yourselves. I won't ask any more questions. Look at you, you know nothing." The policeman said sternly, his voice serious and cold. "Tell me, have you been making some shady deal behind the scenes?" The policeman had read the two men's minds, raising his eyebrows as he carefully observed their expressions.

When the drug rehabilitation center staff realized that the police had finally seen through their scheme, they simply stopped trying to cover it up and confessed, "He made me do it all. I was forced into it." He shifted all the blame onto Xu Mo, thus clearing himself of any wrongdoing.

Seeing this, Xu Mo became even angrier. This person was not only so shameless, but also tried to pin all the blame on him. He broke free from the police's obstruction, his face contorted with rage. The thought of his sister dying because of this kind of person was unbearable. "Who was it that made those unfair deals? Have you failed in your position? And now you have the nerve to shift the blame onto me? Your spirit in heaven will never forgive you."

Seeing that the two were about to start fighting again, the policeman roared, "Are you treating me like I don't exist?! Stop it, both of you. If you have something to say, go to the police station."

The two had no choice but to be taken to the police station for questioning.

"He forced me to help him get Xu Xiaoxiao out. If I didn't help him, he used all sorts of threats and inducements, leaving me nowhere to stand." The detention center officer spoke tearfully, as if Xu Mo had orchestrated everything. He paused and continued, "Officer, you must believe me!"

"How can you say such a thing? You are despicable and shameless!" Xu Mo was furious.

Just as the two were arguing, the policeman slammed his hand on the table. "Alright, there's no evidence right now, and I can't believe you just because of your side of the story. Let's wait until the investigation is complete before we talk about it further. By then, it's hard to say who's guilty."

After a while, a tall woman wearing a white short skirt walked in. "Let's go, I'll take you home."

Xu Mo, who had been looking down, looked up at the woman's words and realized it was her.

"Why are you here?" Xu Mo looked at the person who came and couldn't help but feel a little pleased. How could she find him even when he was at the police station?

A smile played on the woman's lips, her eyes crinkling, and a hint of doting affection shone in her amber pupils: "What? Isn't it good that I came to pick you up? You still want to stay here? I've bailed you out, you can go back now." With that, the woman reached out her hand, gesturing for Xu Mo to take it.

However, Xu Mo sat blankly in the chair for a long time, his eyes glazed over and he remained silent for a long time, as if the air had frozen.

"What's wrong?" the woman asked cautiously, her voice very soft, as if afraid of disturbing him.

At this moment, Xu Mo's face was pale, his eyes were empty, and he had completely lost his usual vitality and radiance, which made people feel a little sorry for him.

"It's alright, let's go back." Xu Mo looked up after a long while, staring at the woman like a puppet. He stood up, almost stumbling and falling to the ground.

Seeing this, the woman quickly helped him up and said with concern, "Let me take you back to your hotel."

The woman drove Xu Mo to the hotel. After he went into the room, he still seemed absent-minded. "Are you alright? Get some rest now that you're back. Don't think about so much." As the woman was about to leave, Xu Mo's deep, husky voice came from behind her.

Where are you going?

"Me?" The woman was startled by Xu Mo's sudden question and stammered for a moment, unsure how to answer. "I'm going back to my place."
