"Thank you, driver," Jiang Hua said to the driver who was helping her with her luggage in the back seat.
"Hehe, no problem!" the driver said cheerfully. "Do you want me to help you take it inside?"
"No need." Jiang Hua smiled at the driver, picked up the handle of her suitcase, and walked towards the hotel ahead.
"Miss, here is your room key. Please keep it safe." Jiang Hua took the room key from the receptionist, turned around, and slowly walked upstairs with her luggage.
Once inside the room, Jiang Hua immediately took off her shoes and socks without any regard for her image and pounced onto the bed.
Jiang Hua buried her face in the pillow and took a deep breath, her eyes filled with deep exhaustion.
She'd been constantly changing hotels these past few days, basically running around with her luggage. While she'd achieved her goal of preventing Qi Yanxu from finding her, she was also extremely exhausted.
Jiang Hua lay in bed thinking, and gradually drifted off to sleep...
"Haven't you found it yet?" the man's cold voice rang out.
The man standing opposite him swallowed hard, unsure how to bring it up. After a long silence, he said to Qi Yanxu, "I'm sorry, Miss Jiang's whereabouts have been elusive, and we... were unable to catch her."
The man lowered his head deeply, feeling ashamed of his incompetence. Qi Yanxu pressed the tip of his nose, waved his hand irritably, and gestured for the man in front of him to leave.
Having received the instruction, the man immediately strode towards the door, taking away the oppressive atmosphere from the room. He immediately relaxed and let out a silent sigh of relief.
Hearing a loud crash from inside the house, the man's eye twitched, he shook his head, ignored it, and continued walking towards the front door.
As he passed the butler, the man paused, hesitated for a moment, and then said hesitantly, "Why don't you go in and take a look? Something might have happened inside."
Inside, Qi Yanxu was still sitting there, leaning back in a large black leather armchair. The room was dark, and his face was hidden in the darkness, making it difficult to see clearly.
When the old butler entered, this was the scene he saw. He looked away from Qi Yanxu's face and immediately noticed the faint smell of blood in the room.
The old butler searched Qi Yanxu's body, his gaze shifting to his hands, where the skin was torn open and blood was flowing down his finger bones.
Recalling the loud bang that had just been heard, the old butler guessed that his master was using his body to test the thickness of the previous attack.
He turned around, hurriedly brought in the medical kit from the outer room, and was about to go over and bandage Qi Yanxu.
Qi Yanxu raised his head, stared at the old butler, and said calmly, "You can go out now."
The old butler understood, respectfully placed the medical kit on the desk, then turned and left, the door closing gently behind him.
Qi Yanxu stared at the closed door, leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes.
He thought, Jiang Hua might as well just keep hiding like this. Since she won't come out, then he'll go to the Jiang family to find her.
Qi Yanxu's face remained hidden in the darkness, his laughter silent.
Qi Yanxu called Jiang's father, and the phone rang. Qi Yanxu's hand tapped rhythmically on the table. He was always a very patient person, but sometimes, waiting was indeed too long, making him... not want to wait any longer.
The call connected, and Jiang's father's anxious voice came through the phone. Qi Yanxu chuckled, his voice hoarse and cloying: "Your daughter has truly disappeared completely lately."
Jiang's father inwardly groaned, gave an awkward laugh, and was about to speak when Qi Yanxu's voice came.
Qi Yanxu's voice suddenly turned stern: "Let me tell you, if Jiang Hua doesn't appear in front of you on her own, the Jiang family's company can forget about me saving it!" With that, he pressed the button and ended the call.
The sounds in the study ceased, and silence returned. Qi Yanxu leaned back in his chair and smiled. He knew that Jiang Hua couldn't refuse her father.
Jiang's father stared silently at the disconnected phone, his expression shifting between light and dark.
After a long wait, Jiang's father dialed a number. The long wait almost made him think that the person on the other end would not answer.
Just as Jiang's father was about to hang up, the call suddenly connected. A delicate female voice came from the other end: "Hello?"
Jiang Hua stared at her phone with some annoyance, suppressing her irritation as she waited for the person who had disturbed her sleep to reply.
Jiang's father's voice, choked with emotion, came through the phone: "Lanlan..."
Jiang Hua was stunned. In her memory, her father had never spoken to her in this tone before.
Seeing that Jiang Hua remained silent, Jiang's father frowned, thought for a moment, and continued, "Lanlan, can you come back..."
Jiang Hua sneered inwardly. Just as she expected. She said coldly, "What are you coming back for?"
Jiang's father was so angry at her words that he choked, and he couldn't help but curse Jiang Hua for being a rebellious daughter. His hand holding the phone trembled slightly.
Jiang's father took several deep breaths to calm himself down, forcing a smile onto his face, but his words were still choked with emotion.
“Lanlan, as you know, I built the Jiang family company from scratch, and it took me a lot of hard work to get it to where it is today,” Jiang’s father said slowly.
Jiang Hua frowned impatiently on the other end of the phone and said, "So what? Just because the company you built from scratch is about to go under, you think of me, your dispensable daughter?"
Jiang Hua spoke sarcastically, glancing at the unfamiliar number on her phone. Her eyes flickered, and she was about to press the end call button.
Jiang's father was getting anxious. He sensed that Jiang Hua was about to end the call and said urgently, "Lanlan, I know you think Dad is wrong, but..."
Jiang's father secretly composed himself. He knew Jiang Hua was soft-hearted, and naturally knew what to say to make her feel sorry for him. He continued, "Lanlan, Dad knows Dad is wrong, and it's understandable that you hate Dad, but the Jiang family company was built by your mother and me together. Your mother also put her heart and soul into it. Can you bear to just watch it go up in flames?"
Jiang Hua remained silent as she listened to her father's words. She knew that what her father said was half true and half false, but she couldn't refuse him because he mentioned her mother.
Jiang's father waited nervously for Jiang Hua's reply. The two remained silent, with only their breathing coming from the phone.
After a long pause, Jiang Hua wearily closed her eyes: "What do you want me to do?"
Jiang's father was overjoyed. He glanced at his lit-up phone screen, suppressed his excitement, and said to Jiang Hua, "Lanlan, Qi Yanxu is putting pressure on the Jiang family right now. Could you go and find him...?"
Jiang Hua silently curled the corners of her lips and said lightly, "I understand."
Jiang Hua promised her father that she would meet Qi Yanxu, so he inquired about Jiang Hua's whereabouts on his own.
